This purpose-built 1970 Porsche 914-6 race car is said to have raced at the Merrill Lynch Brian Redman International Challenge in 1998, 1999 and 2001, and to have last raced at Road America 15 years ago. A genuine 914-6, this example now carries a 911T 2.0L flat-six carbureted engine with a 5-speed manual transmission and is being offered for auction by its seller out of California.
The bodywork on this example, finished in Dark Blue Metallic, include a rear deck, front hood, doors and bumpers of fiberglass, and front and rear fenders of steel. The bumpers are of a type-916 look for the racetrack and it has been fitted with a battery cutoff. Comprehensive photos depicting the body are shown in the gallery. It currently rides on a set of 7”/8” chrome Fuchs wheels with Hoosier slick tires.
The interior has been completely stripped and converted to a racing cockpit, complete with a fire suppression system, integrated roll bar, VDO instrumentation, Simpson racing harness and a single Scheel racing seat.
The original motor in this 914 has been replaced with a type 901/16, 911T 2.0L flat-six motor. It is paired with a type 914/01 5-speed manual transmission, limited-slip differential and modified gear ratios. The car's suspension setup utilizes adjustable Koni shocks both front and rear as well as front and rear sway bars. A rear camber truss steel tower is additionally fitted. The car’s braking system utilizes stock 911S brakes with aluminum calipers in the front. Additional mechanial components include a front-mounted oil cooler and a fuel cell.
This race car, to be sold on clear Wisconsin title, is said to be eligible for racing in Group 8 in HSR, SVRA and VARA. This sale will include a Porsche Certificate and the vehicle's original maintenance booklet.
