1971 Datsun 240Z 5-Speed

Available for auction is this 1971 Datsun 240Z finished in Sunshine Yellow over a black vinyl interior. The Nissan S30, known as the Fairlady Z in the Japanese market and the Datsun 240Z in others, aimed to compete with the established European sports cars of the day. Serving as Datsun’s halo car, the 240Z helped to broaden the appeal of Japanese models beyond their economy car roots. This 1971 example is said to be a lifelong California car and was acquired by the seller from its second owner of 40 years in 2021. Under the care of the seller, an array of upgrades have been installed including Italian cast Weber carburetors, a Fujitsubo exhaust system, magnesium Campagnolo wheels, and much more. In 2022, this 240Z was featured in a Hagerty Icons YouTube video, driven by renowned automotive journalist Jason Cammisa. Accompanied by service records dating back as far as the 1980s, this 5-speed 240Z is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.

This 240Z comes finished in Sunshine Yellow and is said to have been completely refinished around 20 years ago under previous ownership. Details include Marchal SEV H4 headlights, Z432-style vertically stacked exhaust outlets, front and rear chrome bumpers with overriders, and a set of 14″ magnesium Campagnolo Elektron wheels dressed in Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. The tires are said to have been installed about a year ago, and a 14” Panasport aluminum wheel dressed in a Vredestein tire serves as the spare. The seller notes a small dent is present in the driver’s door and the front grille and rear tail lamp panel have been refinished in their correct medium grey color.

The cabin is appointed with black vinyl trimmed bucket seats along with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. The cabin is said to remain in very good overall condition, and the seller notes that a piece of chrome trim is missing from the passenger door panel. Details include a wood-rimmed steering wheel, wooden shift knob, hand-crank side windows, a velour dashboard mat, rubber floor mats with “Z” logos, a lockable glove box, and a heater. The turn signal switch assembly is said to have been refurbished, and the seller notes the clock and choke have been disconnected.

Power comes from its original L24 2.4-liter inline 6-cylinder engine which has been fitted with triple cast Italian Weber carburetors, a Cannon intake manifold, Pacesetter headers, Crane Cams ignition, and a Fujitsubo exhaust system. The rear wheels are driven by way of an upgraded 5-speed manual transmission which was sourced from a later 280Z in 2006 at 160k miles. The seller notes the Weber carburetors were rebuilt by Kyushahouse, and other upgrades include a BMW M5 sourced 6” velocity stack, a battery cut-off switch, an MSA fuse box, and a Mallory ignition coil. Under the care of the seller, service has included new ignition wires and distributor cap & rotor, and flushes of the coolant, gear oil, and engine oil. Service records dating back to the 1980s are said to accompany the car. Additionally, under current ownership the car has recieved a new clutch slave cylinder, steering shaft coupler, front brake calipers restored by PMB performance with new pistons and seals put in and blasted and plated. The seller notes that Porterfield R4S street pads and rear brake shoes are installed and have only 2,000 miles of use.

This sale will include a clean title.

Happy Friday everyone, just added a drive video highlighting the amazing sound of the fujitsubo exhaust. Note : the seats are the Datsun competition replica (Japan made) that I just pulled out and plan to keep. May be available for sale.
New idle video from few days ago also uploaded.

Correction : the clock was not disconnected. It does not work. Also, Actual mileage is 167k +, not 67k + based on records from PO. Motor is solid!

Good morning everyone, uploaded a few more “behind the scenes” photo from the Hagerty Icons video shoot in Willow Springs raceway. The shoot was a 12 hr event (7am-7pm). Numerous runs and takes around the track. Nephew and I went straight home to the Bay Area after. It was a 6 hour drive as there was a long delay along highway 5. She is really a performer! Excellent driver with the Italian Triple carbs!
I will be uploading more drive cockpit videos. Stay tune!

Hello PCarmarket members and Z lovers worldwide. My name is Jun and Welcome to my auction. I'll be checking all comments and questions and try to answer them all.
A little bit about me, I'm a car aficionado and had vintage and modern sports cars (two long hood 911, 996 turbo in the past).
About my 71 Z. It's my 4th, had two 280Z and a 72 Z. I had logged in about 2k miles since 2021. Attended two Breakfast Club Rallies "Tokyo Calling" here in the Bay area and regular cars and coffee events. Drove it on a weekend to Willow Springs International Raceway, 364 miles one way when Hagerty Icons did the video shoot, an awesome experience. Car performed flawlessly, no hiccups. I would not hesitate to go on a journey coast to coast. Coolant temp and Oil pressure is rock steady at the middle on 4 hours driving, average speed of 75-90 mph. She is a performer!
Happy bidding and bid often! Good Luck to all!
