Now up for auction is this 1971 Mercedes-Benz W111 280SE 3.5 Coupe finished in White over a brown leather interior.  Succeeding the unibody "Ponton" models of the 1950s, the W111 series was produced between 1959-1971, with the 280SE 3.5 being the final model added to the line in 1969.  It was debuted with some noteworthy styling updates along with a new M116 3.5 L V8 engine rated at 200 HP.  Representing the conclusion of W111 production, this very rare 4-speed manual 1971 example was purchased by its seller in April of 2016 and is now being offered for auction out of Texas with approximately 9k miles showing on the odometer (TMU).

This Coupe is painted White, and the seller reports this vehicle to have been refinished at some point during previous ownership.  Some overspray is noted in the engine bay and some signs of road-going wear are present throughout the body, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery.  The 280SE 3.5 received a facelift consisting of a flatter front bonnet and a lower radiator grille; this model was unofficially dubbed by the Germans as the "flachkühler" or “flat cooler”.  This example rides on factory 14" wheels with color-matched hubcaps and older Uniroyal white-border tires.

Inside, this Coupe is appointed with brown leather upholstery and decorative wood veneers.  Signs of wear are noted on the headliner, and the trim on the upper dashboard shows deterioration.  The original Becker Grand Prix radio remains in place and is currently inoperable. There is no air conditioning equipped from the factory, although the heat is said to be fully operational along with power windows and all other gauges and accessories.

The fuel-injected M116 3.5 L V8 engine sends as much as 200 HP to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual gearbox, which is enough to provide for a 0-60 time of under 10 seconds.  Since their purchase in 2016, the seller has replaced clutch master cylinder and reports the vehicle to have only been driven on occasion for mechanical exercise.  This 280SE is said to startup, idle, shift, and drive without issue.

Accompanied by a clean title, this beautiful driver-grade 280SE 3.5 Coupe would make a very nice complement to any classic car enthusiast's collection, do not let this opportunity pass you by.
