Succeeding the unibody "Ponton" models of the 1950s, the W111 series was produced between 1959-1971, with the 280SE 3.5 being the latest model added to the range in 1969.  It debuted with styling updates along with a new M116 3.5-liter M116 V8 engine rated at 200 HP. This 1971 example is a 280SE 3.5 Coupe that was refurbished between 2015 and 2017 including a repaint in the original Moss Green color, new Olive Green leather upholstery, re-plated brightwork, and mechanical service. This W111 Coupe is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.

This 280SE was refinished in its original color of Moss Green in 2015 along with re-plating of the chrome brightwork and replacements of the rubber seals and bumpers. Driving lamps have been installed and the right taillight assembly was replaced with a new OEM part in 2019. Equipment includes chrome bumpers, rocker moldings, and wheel arch flares, a polished driver’s side mirror, dual exhaust tips, a fender-mounted antenna, and 14” steel wheels with body-colored hubcaps and Uniroyal Tigerpaw tires. Noted imperfections include scratches around the passenger-side headlight and rear quarter panel and a paint chip on the driver’s side door. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin was refurbished in 2015 with new Olive Green leather, matching carpets, and a beige headliner along with refinished wood trim by Madeira Concepts. Accessories include a black two-spoke steering wheel, air conditioning, power windows, a power sunroof, a VDO quartz clock, a column-mounted gear selector, and a Becker Mexico radio.

This W111 is equipped with a 3.5-liter M116 V8 engine with Bosch Jetronic fuel injection and an originally rated output of 200 HP and 211 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven through a 4-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. Stopping power comes from four-wheel disc brakes. The power steering pump and steering box were reportedly resealed in 2018 and the fluids have been changed in preparation for sale.

This sale will include a clean title.

    Hello @JohnBlackyoldtimer,

thank you for the comment. We might see or think that the driver's door has a gap compared to the front/rear fender.
I am attaching pictures that I just took to show that the door is lining up with the other parts of the car.
Let me know if those pictures give an answer to your question.

    Hello @JohnBlackyoldtimer,

The winner wanted to finance the car and it was not approved.
Driver's door hanging ? can you point me the picture where you can see this detail ?

Have a good day ( I am attaching a picture of the car being in our showroom)

Hello, I also followed the auction on BaT. I'm very surprised that the winner of the auction with the highest bid on BaT didn't have the financial resources to buy the car. BaT is very strict here if someone bids and doesn't want to pay. The winner also purchased a 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL for $243,500.00. I can't believe that finances were the sole reason. I noticed the driver's door hanging and asked for clarification, which was never forthcoming. I would appreciate it if the seller would provide more clarification here.

    Good morning @shy,

The winner for the auction with the highest bid on BaT did not have the fund for buying the car. Considering that the post-auction services on BaT is not really responsive, we decided to move forward and list the car on Pcar.

    Have a good day

  • shy (registered bidder) 3 weeksago
