This 1971 Porsche 911 was built as an RSR many years ago and is said to have raced during the IMSA Camel GT and Camel Lights era with several podium finishes. It was acquired by the current owner 18 years ago and features a Mike Burns 3.8-liter endurance race motor producing 400 HP along with a 930 racing gearbox and heavy-duty coilover suspension. Having logged less than 5 hours on its motor, this 911 RSR-style race car is now being offered for auction by its owner out of Florida.
Finished in blue with a classic Sunoco-Porsche livery, this 911 wears full RSR-style bodywork, lightweight Lexan windows, and interchangeable sets of spoilers and wings for varying downforce. The car rides on a set of 16” BBS three-piece racing wheels (6 total) all mounted with new Hoosier slicks. The exterior is described to be in good overall condition with some small marks from track debris.
The cockpit is stripped and fitted with a full roll cage, Racetech seat, Sabelt safety harness, MOMO steering wheel, a fire suppression system, and custom switches & instrumentation.
The 3.8-liter flat-six JB Racing motor was built by Mike Burns at a cost of nearly $70k featuring twin plug heads, dual MSD boxes, PMO 52 carburetors, a billet distributor, and a large capacity dry dump oiling system. A claimed output of 400 HP is sent to the rear wheels through a strengthened Porsche 930 gearbox featuring two different sets of cryo-treated gears as well as a racing clutch. The car weighs approximately 2,500 lbs. and is equipped with a heavy-duty 930 suspension including coilovers and monoball bushings. The engine is said to have logged less than 5 hours since the build and the seller reports the carburetors were recently rebuilt along with fuel system cleaning, installation of new fuel cell foam, fuel pumps, racing oil, and filters.
This 911 is accompanied by a bill of sale, racing logs, spare wheels, and some documentation.

@JTO Thanks for the info. So the bladder was not replaced but only the foam? You may know The cert’s for the bladders are 4-5 years but often they go longer , as much as 8-9 before they leak. Is this bladder 18 years old? Does the car run 930 brakes or something else? Best of luck.

@moregas The fuel cell internals were replaced 3 years ago. HD rear trailing arms. Never any hits that I am aware of, which means the past 30+ years and NO evidence of any hits ever. Depending on conditions, the car is set up to run ITG triple foam air cleaners if necessary. The attachment plates are in car
Does the seller know how old the bladder is inside the fuel cell? Also what brakes does the car run? What trailing arms are on it 930 or 911? Do you run it normally without any air cleaners? Are there any hits (crash damage) evident in the chassis? Thanks.

Amazing track car! maybe I should bid on this to spare my 92 Carrera Cup car of any potential damage. This is a rocket 2500 lb with 400 angry horses!
@Porsche707 It's been a race car for the past 30+ years I believe. I have never found any registration information for it. Admittedly I haven't looked very hard either so there might be some out there...

I mention the car ran on 15" factory Fuchs in period. That is correct. I removed them years ago as they are original and VERY rare. They ARE NOT included in the sale of the car but they are a part of the provenance of the car. As such, the successful bidder might purchase them independently.
@redgard Sorry about that. I didn't catch that during the review. My fault. The VIN # suggests it is either a 71 or 72. The car was entered as a 74 and built to the specs of a 74 RSR. I believe the roll cage, chassis, fuel cell, dry sump tank are original to the initial build and have been serviced as necessary. All pumps, electrical, motor, coil overs, ignition systems, transmission are updated/new as are the 16" BBS 3 piece racing wheels. The car in period ran on 15" factory Fuchs which are VERY rare.
i just re watched your walk around video .. in it you say this is a ‘1974 RSR’. but the auction says it’s a 1971. Which one is it?
Also what changes has the car undergone since it was raced in the series mentioned?

@tdskip The VIN on the frame inside the front 'trunk' area is visible. Consequently it should be possible to get a 'title'.
@tdskip Sorry for not being more specific – I do see that it’s offered with a bill of sale but what I was really trying to ask is can we get a clean title for this out of the state of Florida?
Are the factory VINs still intact?

The car is a 4 speed....The 930 box, built well is much stronger than the 915 and, in my opinion, much stronger than a standard G50. However, a G50 can be fitted with a simple slotting of the transmission tunnel.
The car also has another set of front and rear, high downforce body work. I will get a picture posted later today...
All: The car is extremely well sorted and very reliable. I have owned and been racing a M8F Mclaren Can Am car, #28 Cup Car, Lola Indy Lights, Alpha GTV, Mid year Corvette, etc etc. for 2 decades. My RSR is the last of the race collection and I kept it because its the best balance of speed, fun and reasonable affordability. I am 20 years older than the car, hence pushing 70 and its time. The car is "on the button" and very quick. Well driven it'll win it's class in vintage racing AND LOOK GREAT DOING IT.
