The fuel-injected 911E succeeded the 911L luxury model in 1969 and continued production until 1973. Standard features of the 911E included ventilated brake discs and aluminum calipers, complemented by the Comfort Package which incorporated velour carpeting, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, rubber trim strips, and chrome accents. This 1971 example has been refinished in Guards Red over black upholstery. The subject of a multi-year refurbishment, it has been treated with an engine and transmission rebuild along with the fitment of an oil pressure-fed hydraulic timing chain tensioner upgrade, Pertronix ignition igniter, SSI heat exchangers, Bursch sport muffler, and more. This 911E is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Texas.
This example was refinished in Guards Red, differentiating from its factory-specified shade of Bahia Red (1313). Details include H4 headlights, a driver’s side mirror, 911S-style black trim, decklid grille badges, and 15” Fuchs wheels with black painted centers and new OHTSU tires. The seller notes the roof and windshields were replaced in 1989 following a rollover accident, which also resulted in the paint refinish. Additionally, the fender lips have been rolled, some signs of patina and road wear are noted, the driver’s door has some rust bubbles, and the original rocker panel moldings have been removed. A replacement driver’s side door is said to accompany the sale. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The black-upholstered cabin offers power-adjustable 993 front leather seats contrasted with a tan headliner. The equipment also includes a Momo steering wheel, VDO instrumentation, and Coco floor mats. The door pockets have been removed, the dashboard and door panels have been retrimmed, and new sun visors and trunk carpeting have been fitted. The roll bar has been removed and signs of wear are noted on the rear seats. All gages, electronics, and accessories are reported to be working properly.
Power is derived from a 2.2-liter flat-six engine, sending as much as 155 HP and 141 lb.-ft of torque stock to the rear wheels through a Type 901 5-speed manual transmission. The engine and transmission are said to have been previously refurbished, and upgrades have included the fitment of oil pressure-fed hydraulic timing chain tensioners, Pertronix ignition igniter, SSI heat exchangers, Bursch sport muffler, an external oil cooler linked to copper lines, and a new early-style fuel tank.

I also have a set of retractable seat belts with the interior trim pieces that can go.
If you want to put AC back in the car, I have some pieces for that as well - VPC interior vent assembly and evaporator assembly.
@Aroadracer I found a chrome driver door trim piece and a set of chrome rear over riders that will go with it. Also have the original steering wheel and batwing horn piece.
@Hgm_Jdb5846 I have a few of the chrome trim pieces - driver window frame and rear quarter window base trim that can go with the car. I may have a few more pieces -
@Regest Yes, the COA - certificate of authenticity, photo 147/171 shows the engine number that came originally in the car. Compare that to the engine number in photo #162/171 and you will see that they match. The transmission number doesn’t show on the COA but it is original.

Hi Jim, thanks for all the info this morning regarding the engine and trans work. You and your shop have added some noteable pedigree to the car. I would want to put the interior and exterior mouldings and trim back to original, just need to figure out the costs for this. I will be biding today. Regards, jdb
@DrT when I bought the car in 1987, the previous owner had disassembled the 2.2 in anticipation of rebuilding it. He was transferred to Afghanistan so that is how I bought it, motor in boxes. When I found the wrecked ‘72, it shortened the build cycle by installing the 2.4T motor. I always wanted to put the original motor back in and finally did that in 2018.
Why was the original E engine swapped for a T?
@DrT no, ‘71 2.2, matching numbers drivetrain. The 2.4 was early on and the original engine installed now.

@Hgm_Jdb5846 on the roof repair: before the accident, I had purchased a 1972 911T with front end damage and used the engine, transmission and interior for refitting into my ‘71E. This is why it has a black interior instead of beige and tan noted in the COA. The repairs were done by German Technology in Euless Texas and they used the top from the ‘72 in the repair. German Technology was the best Porsche repair facility in the area at the time (you can verify this with Ed Mayo) and they were doing all of the high end dealer repairs. Their craftsman cut the roof section at the pillars, fixtured and tig welded everything into place. To this day, you cannot tell where the splices were made. I spoke to the guy responsible for the fixturing and welding recently and he said the welds were ground down flush with parent metal and the only evidence after paint removal would be the sanding scratches at the splices. The paint on the pillars and roof is actually in very good condition considering the paint’s age.
The side windows are original.
@Hgm_Jdb5846 the rebuilds were done by me at my race shop in Fort Worth, Buckley Racing LLC which I operated from 2003 - 2020. The only receipts I have are for the block work - rebuild (surface) case halves, deck the spigots, line hone to standard, install time certs, r&r gallery plugs and high pressure clean done by Richard Jacksic in NJ. Head work - replace all guides, replace all valves and 3 angle valve job by Jones Autowerks in San Antonio, TX. Crankshaft check, balance and polish by Mid South Engine and Machine in Fort Worth. Everything else was in good shape. The rods were resized and balanced with ARP rod bolts installed by Competition Engineering but I can’t find a receipt for this work. The oil pump was rebuilt by Parts Klassik. All of the engine tin has been powder coated. Of course, all new bearings, gaskets and seals were installed during the build. That is my shop in the pictures with the engine out. SSI’s were installed at this time. The car runs strong and smooth and shifts smoothly.
The transmission was gone through with new synchros on 1-4, dog teeth on 1, 2 & 3, and both intermediate bearings replaced along with new gaskets and seals. All else was in good condition.
On the driver door, when I first noticed a small bubble in around 1997 and came across a good door being offered locally. I bought it and sanded the outer surface to metal to check for rust and found none. I primered it to preserve the metal. It has been stored in my garage ever since. The floors have never shown any signs of rust. There have never been any patches or metal repairs to the floors or torque boxes. The car still has a solid front suspension pan which is very rare for this vintage 911.
On the paint, if you look closely at the pictures, I have tried to show the paint defects on this 36 year old paint job. There is a tire rub blister at the left rear wheel lip from autocrossing with 7” rear rims ( the car has the original 6” rims all around now). There is some blistering on the left rear quarter panel in front of the wheel well shown in the pictures. There is slight blistering on the left front fender. The rest of the surfaces still look good. There are no dings on the car. The car still looks fantastic from a few feet away as can be seen in the pictures. It is a solid, good looking driver and I hope I have represented it as such.

Forgot to ask about the roof replacement...
Did this work involve the complete roof "skin" being cut off and replaced? Or was it more extensive job such as the entire roof structure including cutting and mating into the 4 roof pillers? I know you mentioned windshield and rear window were replaced at that time, Is the side glass still original?

Do you have the receipts from the engine and trans rebuild work? If not avail. Is it possible to describe the extend of the rebuilds that were done.
The rusty bottom drivers door, must be significate if you have a replacement door for it? If the door has rust the floor must have rust. Have there been patches or metal repairs to the floor or torque boxes?
And finally, your pictures show significant road rash on front if car ( likely needing repaint front) but other than drivers door, no other paint defects have been noted or shown. Is the remainder of the paint in good condition?

@JustOneMore that is the bottom of the smuggler’s box where the exhaust for a Webasto heater option is located. It has been touched up as I did over the years for underbody maintenance. The area as well as the rest of the underbody is solid. Photos added.

@RMWV I installed a roll bar in the early 90’s for auto cross. It was removed in 1999 and the mounting holes were sealed with silicone. The roll bar is long gone.

@Hgm_Jdb5846 JDB, unfortunately I don’t have pictures from then (1988). The work was done by German Technology in Euless, TX which was doing all of the dealer paint and body work at that time. To this day, you cannot see any traces of the repairs. On the trim, it is painted a gloss black urethane single stage which I thought looked more like an SC, only different.
Hi, Do you have any pictures of the car after the roll over incident prior to, or during the or the rebuilding body work? And, do you know if window frames are painted? Or anodized ?
I believe the originals were clear polished aluminium.
