This 1971 Porsche 911 Coupe was acquired from its previous owner, a factory Mercedes-Benz technician and test driver at Spa racetrack, who performed a custom restoration including a carbon fiber hood and front fenders, wide steel rear fenders, an RS-style front valence, and an upgraded 3.0-liter flat-six motor. Inside, it features a custom brown leather interior with RS-style door panels, Recaro bucket seats, a Moto-Lita steering wheel, and a painted roll bar. It was acquired by the builder in 2001 and was finally completed in 2015 before it was purchased by the seller in Amsterdam and shipped by air back to the United States. This one-of-a-kind 911 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Colorado.
This non-sunroof 911 Coupe has been modified with a carbon fiber hood, carbon fiber front fenders, and a Carrera RS-style front valence. Steel rear fender flares have also been installed. The exterior has been stripped to bare metal and refinished in a nonmetallic grey color accented by chrome window moldings, door handles, and dual bullet-style mirrors mounted on fixed wind wings. It rides on staggered-width 15” Fuchs wheels dressed in Pirelli P6000 tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin has been completely redone with brown leather upholstery and matching carpets. Accessories include custom RS-style door panels, power windows, factory Recaro Sport Seats with lowered headrests, a black leather three-spoke Moto-Lita steering wheel, a polished shift knob, an aftermarket Sony stereo, pop-out rear quarter windows, and a roll bar painted to match the exterior. A picnic basket is also included in the rear.
Power comes from a rebuilt 3.0-liter flat-six motor with a fuel injection system, oil-fed Carrera chain tensioners, exhaust headers, and a dual-exit sport muffler. Power is sent to the rear wheels by way of a Type 915 5-speed manual transmission. The car has four-wheel disc brakes, a through-body sway bar, a front strut tower brace, Turbo tie rods, and Bilstein shocks. The seller adds that the car weighs in at 2,184 lbs. and performs very well with excellent handling and acceleration.

The builder, a factory Mercedes-Benz technician, is also a driver at Spa the racetrack in Belgium testing various makes and models. True care and build reliability were engineered into the car, the 3.0L Motor has an incredible power band and truly fits the car. Carbon fiber front fenders and hood, correct factory rear flares in metal as you see were done. The car weighs 2184 pounds, has undaunted acceleration, is quick with plenty of bottom-end torque, incredibly tight and nimble steering and suspension, and is truly a joy to drive. The way a real Porsche should drive. The interior to great care in time as the original 70s Recaro Sport Seats were used. The headrests were modified to fit into the seat level so that you had driver comfort and full vision. The rollbar creates that café racing feel as well as safety without impeding the cabin room. This as well is also an original slick top car the preferred for high performance and lower weight. You can see the European craftsmanship and attention to detail that was done to the highest levels. The picnic basket is included for the new owners’ first touring event.”

Maybe so sir but what is the difference. All the gauges in the car work and function correctly and they are all proper original OEM Porsche gauges.
@jedd I understand that the needles themselves are red. Note the 3 other gauges have the correct silver “caps” with red needles. I’m not trying to be argumentative but I believe the tach and Speedo are from a later car.
Perhaps the restoration pics and other info will clarify.

The car comes with a clean Colorado title
The tach and speedo gauges appear to be from a later car….the earlier ones had the “silver-based” needles, these look like from a later car. Also a question, was the car’s suspension fully redone? I see the shock upgrades etc but the suspension, exhaust and brakes etc sure look like they’ve got more than the 5k kilometers put on the car since the rebuild.
Is the roll bar bolted or welded in?

As to the ride and its stability the car has a very comfortable ride not to raced out and stiff. Yet the upgraded suspension gives you that tightness and “ feel one with the road” in cornering and acceleration.

The motor has upgraded high compression pistons and cams and an all aluminum RS flywheel and clutch . I believe we are in the high 2’s in the horse power range. The cars responsiveness and acceleration is amazing . Also the sound is incredible.
Is there an approximate horsepower guess? How does it ride on the roads?
Thank you approximately 5,000 kilometers since its completion as it was used as a summer touring car. The motor was totally gone through prior to its installation and had no need for leak down or compression test.
is the 3L motor a transplanted unit or an increased displacement of the original?

@Grandy99 It’s a 71 longhood car. Was a simple misinterpretation of the term. The car is an original European model and to the best of my knowledge those are the original gauges in kilometers.
@JB630 Correct. It’s a simple matter of a misprinted term.
@Grandy99 long hood production didn't end until 1973. This is not a backdate conversion but does have RS style modifications.
It is a 1971 with a backdated long hood and rear bumpers? Please explain? I also noticed that the Speedo and tach are not pre G body vintage. The car looks great though!
