Up for auction is this 1971 Porsche 911T presented in Light Yellow over a black leatherette interior.  This example is reported to have been purchased by the seller from its original owner in 2009 before it was sold to another individual and then purchased back by the seller after 10 years in 2019.  Under its original ownership, this 911T underwent a full engine rebuild with upgrades including a Carrera chain tensioner, 911S pistons, and Weber carburetors.  Reported to have a  number’s matching drivetrain and documentation dating back to the original purchase, this 1971 example is now being offered by its seller in Alabama with approximately 115k miles showing on the odometer.

This 911 is said to have been previously refinished in its factory special order color of Light Yellow.  The paint is said to be in great overall condition, free of any noteworthy imperfections (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  Fog lights are listed on the original purchase order along with the “Appearance Group” which includes 911 S-type trim including gold rear lettering, extended rocker panels, and protective rubber moldings over the bumperettes. This example also rides on rare optional Mahle “Gas Burner” 5-lug wheels with a matching full-size spare located in the trunk.

Inside, the black leatherette interior is said to be in very good condition.  Air conditioning was equipped by the original dealer and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be working properly including the Blaupunkt “Denver” radio.  The 5-digit odometer currently reads just over 15k miles and the seller reports the total mileage to be approximately 115k miles.

This 911T is equipped with its original 2.2 L flat-six engine paired with a factory optional 5-speed manual gearbox.  The engine is said to have been fully rebuilt during the 1990s and fitted with a Carrera chain tensioner kit, 911S pistons, and Weber carburetors.  The transmission, braking, and air conditioning systems are also said to have been overhauled during this time.  Other upgrades include stainless steel brake lines, SSI heat exchangers, and an updated clutch arm.  Service records are included dating back to the original purchase and this 911T is said to be in fantastic running order.

This sale will include 2 original master keys, a clean title, service records, and the original books, tools, spare tire, and purchase order.  With all the right upgrades and factory options, this well maintained 1971 example makes the perfect 911 for any aspiring vintage Porsche owner.

Thank you to all the bidders. The bidding unfortunately came up just short of the minimum I'd be willing to let this gem go for. Again thank you...

@Barchet Good Morning! There was some oil residue when looking at the bottom side of the engine on the hoist, but no significant leaks. I estimate 10k miles since the engine rebuild was done in 1990. The transmission was overhauled at that same time (clutch, clutch arm, syncros). Thank you for your interest!

  • Barchet (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

Seller, are there any leaks along the entire drive train? Also, do you know how many miles on the engine since the rebuild? Has the transmission ever been rebuilt or serviced?

@rhmoritz Hey, the headliner does have some staining, it's original. It could be replaced for a few hundred dollars. The seats are all original and in excellent condition with the only notable defect being the driver backrest leather appears wavy due to aged padding. The leather and seats feel good when you sit in them though. I have not pulled the batteries out, but the underside of the battery boxes (underneath the car) are in good shape. Thanks

  • rhmoritz (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

The headliner appears to be stained. Can you comment? Is the seat foam and coverings original? Is there rust/corrosion under the batteries?

@fastricky Absolutely, that's just paint that was bridged across the body to the strut, purely cosmetic. Mind you this is covered by the front storage compartment lining. Thanks

  • fastricky (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

Thanks for the new pics, can you explain in pic #48 what the cracking is around the top?

  • jbaldridge (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

The requested pictures have been submitted to PCARMARKET to upload. Should be up shortly!

  • jbaldridge (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@Wilky4 This car has never been rusted. I plan to have close up pics of the battery boxs / strut mounts today. Thank you for your interest!

  • jbaldridge (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@BrentF I should have a picture of the paint code plate for you today. Thank you!

  • Wilky4 3 years, 4 monthsago

Could you speak to the condition of the battery boxes and front suspension mounts - any corrosion/rust present now or in the past ? Thanks.

  • BrentF 3 years, 4 monthsago

Could the seller please post a picture of the paint code plate on the driver's side hinge pillar. Thank you.

  • jbaldridge (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

Photos of the invoices from the engine rebuild and A/C overhaul attached. Thank you!

  • jbaldridge (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@fastricky As far as suspension that's been replaced, I only see in the records where wheel bearings and tie rods were replaced. The rubber bushings are still in decent shape though and there is only minor surface corrosion found on the arms, but overall in great shape. I also see in the records the shifter linkage being rebuilt in 2006. Thanks for your interest!

  • jbaldridge (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@rhart It was said to me that it was stripped to bare metal for the repaint and it shows. It's not 100% flawless in that you can find an occasional fish eye and some evidence of prep work showing through, but only if you're looking very closely. Much better than most resprays. It is a great paint job overall and very beautiful to look at in person. I hope to have some paint depth readings up by the weekend. Thank you!

  • jbaldridge (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@fastricky The A/C works great, most of the A/C system and heater boxes/cables were replaced in 1988, with a recharge in late 2006. The records are submitted for PCARMARKET to upload here shortly. Thank you!

Seller. Was paint a windows out job and was it taken to bare metal?
    Thank you

  • fastricky (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

Seller have any suspension items been replaced? Also, how does the A/C perform in Alabama heat? Thx!

  • jbaldridge (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

Please note, this 911 includes both original keys. A correction has been submitted to PCARMARKET to update this in the listing.

  • jbaldridge (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

Walk around video is now uploaded, thank you!

  • jbaldridge (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@Posip Hey @Posip, I don't have any paint depth readings at the moment, I will see if I can get some for you. Please note, it has had an exterior re-spray of the original color, but is a high quality paint job. I submitted the service records you requested to PCARMARKET to post here, please stay tuned. I will see if I have any close up shots of the battery box on my computer when I get home tonight. Thank you for your interest!

  • Posip (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

My favorite color and in coupe form to boot.
    A few questions:
    Any paint meter readings
Engine build documentation, name of shop, parts and labor list
Any close shots of the battery tray and front pan etc ?

@daisydad911 To clarify Pcarmarket's phrasing- this is not a custom color, this 911 was ordered with Light Yellow paint for an additional charge as shown on the listed build records. Paint rarity is rated 3/5 by rennbow.

    Thank you for your interest!

  • daisydad911 3 years, 4 monthsago

You say “ This 911 is said to have been previously refinished in its factory special order color of Light Yellow”.
Light Yellow was a standard factory color, not a Special Order color. This applied from 1971-1973

  • jbaldridge (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@Barchet Thank you, while I don't know exactly the mileage of the rebuild as the shop receipts only have the date of 6/16/1990, I do know the vast majority of the miles were put on before the rebuild. I have service records that only 3k miles were put on since 2001. I do not have compression or leak down numbers, but the engine is in excellent running condition and drove great over the weekend directly prior to pictures and listing. Thank you for your interest!

Beautiful car. Any idea how many miles since engine overhaul? Has there been any recent leak down and/or compression tests?
