Based on the Volkswagen Beetle platform, the Karmann Ghia featured hand-built bodywork and was the company's premier sports car of its day. This 1971 convertible was acquired by the seller from its previous owner's estate and comes finished orange over a brown vinyl interior. The car is said to have been found in long-term storage with its last identifiable registration in 1998, and recently underwent minor service to get the engine running. This classic air-cooled VW is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Washington.

Regarded as one of the most iconic and attractive automotive designs of all time, the Karman Ghia was styled in Italy by Carrozzeria Ghia, and the bodywork was hand-built in Germany by Karmann. This example comes finished in orange and is said to exhibit corrosion in several areas throughout the body. The convertible top is missing, although a replacement top and most of the hardware necessary for installation will accompany the sale. Detailed images can be found in the gallery. It rides on a set of steel wheels with chrome hub caps and older tires.

Inside, the seating surfaces are upholstered in brown vinyl with matching door panels. The tan carpets show wear and the floors have been have been patched due to corrosion. The seller reports that the cabin remains in fair overall condition, noting that the windshield is cracked, one heater knob and the rearview mirror are missing, and the seats show some tears.

Power comes from an air-cooled flat four-cylinder engine mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. A service was carried out to get the car started which included new fluids, a fuel filter, a battery, an air filter, and a distributor. The seller notes that there is likely a leak in the exhaust system and that the brakes are in need of service.

This sale will include a collection of parts and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know:  "Thanks for visiting my auction. This project was more than I had time for, but I'm hoping it will find a home that can appreciate the potential of this rare car."
