Up for auction is this classic 1971 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Coupe. Styled in Italy by Carrozzeria Ghia with bodywork hand-built in Germany by Karmann, the Karmann Ghia is an air-cooled rear-engine sports car based on the Volkswagen Beetle. Purchased by its current owner in 2016, this VW has since undergone over $10k worth of restoration including the full refurbishment of the interior with custom Houndstooth upholstered seats. This gorgeous Karmann Ghia is now being offered in excellent running order by its seller out of New Jersey accompanied by a clean title and recent invoices.
This Karmann Ghia was refinished in Silver Metallic paint under previous ownership. Reported to have been kept in climate-controlled storage since 2016, the finish on this VW is said to be very well presented except for a small bubble depicted on the rear panel (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery). The body is reported to be in good shape with consistent panel gaps. Some noteworthy features include chrome exterior brightwork, chrome front and rear bumpers, 15” wheels with new chrome ventilated hubcaps, and newly installed period-correct Michelin XZX tires.
Under the current ownership, the cabin was completely redone with all new carpeting, headliner and custom reupholstered Houndstooth seats. The steering wheel and horn ring have been replaced, an aftermarket radio has been installed, and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be fully functional. The 5-digit odometer currently shows just over 47k miles of which approximately 2,500 were driven under the current ownership since 2016.
This Volkswagen is powered by a rear-mounted 1600cc flat-four air-cooled engine paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox. The car is said to be in strong running order with the following maintenance items addressed in recent years to maintain excellent driving standards:
This sale will include 1 master key, records from the current ownership, and a clean title. Do not miss your chance to own a nicely presented example of Volkswagen’s iconic Karmann Ghia sports car.

@Cward2 I have sent in a link of six pictures showing the inside of the nose area you asked about.
Hopefully they can get those up soon.
@Cward2 No I don't but can surely take one for you.
I guess you're looking to see if the nose was ever crushed from the outside?
No signs of any damage. As for the spare, I tossed it when I purchased the car.
Two reasons, it was the wrong size, to large to fit in the bottom and the tire was rotten and the rim was bent.
@phowley Do you happen to have a photo handy from inside the frunk looking towards the backside of the nose, the Grille inner boxes and horn bellows in front of the spare?
@Cward2 It's on the right rear panel close to the seam of the engine lid.
Not really worth mentioning as it's hardly noticeable.
The age of the paint is around 6 years from what I was told. No rust at all.
Wonderful interior / execution. And great exterior color. Which picture shows the mentioned bubble and do you know anything about the age on the paint. So happy it’s not a convertible!
Hello all and thanks for taking a look at this very rare KG.
Hard to find and when you do it always seems to be a red cab.
I felt this color combo is a true German standard that gives it a very finished look.
Hope you do to. I'm available for any questions.
