Designed by Pelle Petterson under the direction of Pietro Frua, the Volvo P1800 is a classic 2+2 touring car celebrated for its styling and long-term reliability. The P1800E version was introduced in 1970 featuring a new fuel-injected engine and four-wheel disc brakes. This 1971 example was purchased by the owner’s father as a fully drivable project car in 1978 and was refurbished over the decades with a rebuilt transmission, reupholstered seats, and a repaint in its factory Gold Metallic color. Showing a remarkable 402k miles on the odometer, this P1800E was inherited by the current owner in 2019 and is now being offered for auction out of Florida.

Factory finished in Gold Metallic (108), this P1800E was repainted in 2020 along with some body repair work and elimination of body side moldings with filler. Equipment includes chrome bumpers and window moldings, chrome fender trim, a polished driver’s side mirror, a fender-mounted antenna, and 15” clover-style wheels dressed in Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. The seller notes some inconsistent body panel gaps, imperfections on the bumpers, damaged exterior lenses, loose rear fender guards, scratched wheel trim rings, and thin paint on the driver’s side rocker. Additional images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin features brown carpeting with deviated edging complemented by reupholstered tan vinyl seats and matching door panels. Accessories include a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, three-point seatbelts, an aftermarket gear knob, aftermarket door speakers, an Alpine stereo, and analog Smiths gauges. The speedometer was repaired in 2013 and the cable was replaced two years later. The seller indicates the floor pans are rusted, the dashboard and steering wheel are cracked, the shifter bushings are worn, and the door handles, center console lid, and passenger window crank are missing. The seats are also said to have been overfilled with cushioning during reupholstery.

Equipped with Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection, the 2.0-liter B30E inline-four engine delivers up to 128 HP and 130 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 3-speed automatic transmission. The transmission is said to have been rebuilt in 2015 and the torque converter was rebuilt the following year along with new transmission seals. An oil change was also performed in 2019 along with a general tune-up. The seller adds that a clunking sound is coming from a universal joint.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, service records, spare parts, memorabilia, vintage California blue license plates, and a clean title.
