Available for auction is this 1972 Citroen DS21 Pallas finished in black over a matching leather interior. A symbol of French ingenuity, the DS was first introduced at the 1955 Paris Motor Show and would see a 20-year production before it was succeeded by the CX. This top-trim Pallas version comes equipped with a 2,175cc inline four-cylinder engine mated to a 4-speed semi-automatic transaxle, a hydropneumatic suspension, Pallas-specific trim, and more. It is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Montreal, Canada.
Highly regarded for its striking design, the DS placed third in the 1999 Car of the Century competition, fifth on Automobile Magazine's “100 Coolest Cars”, and was named the most beautiful car of all time by Classic & Sports Car magazine. This 1972 example comes finished in black and is said to have been refinished in its original shade at some point. Details include Pallas side trim, stainless-steel C-pillar trim, gold DS21 badging, a fiberglass roof panel, twin side mirrors, and stainless-steel bumpers with rubber overriders. A collection of detailed images can be found in the gallery. It rides on a set of 15” steel wheels with full stainless-steel covers and Zeta ZTR20 tires from 2016.
The cabin is upholstered in black leather with matching carpets, door panels, and dashboard. The seller reports the interior has been completely reupholstered and remains in excellent overall condition. Features include a unique single-spoke steering wheel, stainless-steel sill plates, a clock, roll-up windows, an AM/FM pushbutton radio, and rear window louvers.
Power comes from a front mid-mounted 2,175cc inline four-cylinder engine driving the front wheels by way of a Citromatic 4-speed semi-automatic transaxle. The DS employed several innovative designs including the transmission mounted ahead of the engine, a hydraulically controlled semi-automatic transmission, and a height-adjustable hydropneumatic suspension. The seller notes the car was serviced with fresh fluids during the summer of 2022.
