Purchased new from the Stoddard Porsche dealership in Willoughby, Ohio, this 1972 911T Targa came factory finished in Blue Metallic over a black interior with corduroy-trimmed Recaro Sport Seats. The car remained under the care of the same owner from 1975 up until 2021 during which time the original engine was rebuilt and upgraded to 911S specifications. It was recently treated to a full nut and bolt rotisserie restoration under the current ownership including overhauls of the brakes, suspension, transmission, ignition, and mechanical fuel injection system. A beautifully presented example with a tasteful boost in performance, this 911T is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Pennsylvania.

The car was stripped to bare metal by Jaws Auto Restorations and refinished in its factory color of Blue Metallic using high-quality PPG paint. All exterior trim was either replaced, polished, or re-chromed during this time. This 911T sports a highly desirable external oil filler on the passenger side which was only seen on cars built for the 1972 model year. Other features include a brushed silver Targa band and removable black roof panel, a heated dome glass rear window, a chrome driver’s side mirror, and 911S-style rocker moldings included as part of the optional Comfort Equipment package. The factory 15” Fuchs light metal wheels are dressed in new Vredestein tires.

The interior came factory equipped with a pair of optional Recaro Sport Seats trimmed in black leatherette with corduroy inserts. The seats were re-covered in new upholstery during the restoration along with the installation of new carpeting and refurbishment of the Targa top. The seller reports all gauges and accessories to be working properly.

Under previous ownership, the original air-cooled flat-six engine is said to have been rebuilt and upgraded to 911S specifications. The mechanical fuel injection (MFI) system was completely rebuilt and calibrated by Gus at Pacific Fuel Injection and the ignition has been upgraded to an electronic Petronix system. The 5-speed manual transmission has been rebuilt with new synchros, the brakes were completely overhauled, and the suspension has been rebuilt with new Koni shock absorbers. The seller adds that a recent compression test showed positive results and that the valves were found to be in proper alignment. Photos and documentation are available from the restoration as well as images of the drivetrain case stampings.

This sale will include records, a toolkit, a Porsche Production Specifications Certificate, and a clean title.

@opener Yes, the previous owner kept hand written spreadsheets detailing the measurements and work. He was an engineer and was very meticulous.

  • opener (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

Very nice 2.4l targa. Is there any documentation of the work done to upgrade the engine to S specs? P&Cs, Heads …?

  • Damaho912 1 year, 4 monthsago

Literally nothing wrong with this 911 (other than the fact I won’t be able to afford it). Simply gorgeous!

  • Jerasimo (seller) 1 year, 4 monthsago

@dwagner275 there was one rust spot by the drivers side pillar near the door mechanism. Other than that super clean. Don’t know why there and nowhere else.

  • dwagner275 (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

during restoration was there any rust noted or repaired?
