An especially remarkable year for the Porsche 911, 1972 saw the introduction of a new Type-915 manual transmission, a larger 2.4-liter engine, and a unique external oil filler lid (Ölklappe) which was discontinued and has since become one of the most sought-after 911 attributes. This Tangerine example is said to have been restored by a previous owner about four years ago and features a customized interior along with upgraded exhaust, Turbo valve covers, and Carrera chain tensioners. Having been sparingly driven in PCA events by its current owner since acquiring the car about two years ago, this 911T is now being offered for auction out of Puerto Rico.
Referred to as an “Ölklappe”, this 1972 example is distinguished by an external oil filler lid mounted behind the passenger door on the rear quarter panel. The car was stripped to bare metal and refinished in its original color of Tangerine during the restoration and includes a 911S-style front spoiler, Porsche logo side stripes, chrome trim, a polished driver’s side mirror, pop-out rear quarter windows, a polished exhaust tip, and factory 15” Fuchs forged alloy wheels dressed in Toyo tires. The seller notes an antenna had been installed on the roof by a previous owner and has since been removed with some minor imperfections left in its place. The cabin was redone during the restoration including the fitment of new carpeting and a custom black dashboard with orange deviated stitching. Accessories include orange-painted instrument bezels, a three-spoke MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, a modern JVC stereo, and Carbone houndstooth floor mats with a matching trunk liner. The seller notes the original seat springs have been replaced and all gauges are fully functional apart from the odometer.
The 2.4-liter flat-six engine is equipped with mechanical fuel injection and offered an original output of up to 140 HP, which is sent to the rear wheel by way of a 5-speed manual gearbox. The engine is shown to have been upgraded with aftermarket stainless-steel headers, oil-fed Carrera chain tensioners, Turbo valve covers, a painted fan blade, and an MSD ignition coil. The seller adds that the car has been kept indoors throughout their ownership while professionally maintained by an in-house Porsche technician including the installation of new brake pads, rotors, and lines in 2022.

@gkp200 Hi, there seems to have been some corrosion at some point that was a repaired during the restoration process. This was the only thing that I caught and was subsequently pointed out by my mechanic during the inspection before I purchased the car. During the years I have had the car this is something I continually check and have not noticed any variation from the day a bought the car, it was just not repaired in a neat way. As you can see in picture 89, the battery area and floor above the mount are clean and corrosion free.
As for the blemish in the paint mentioned in the description, you can see it in picture 30 if you look closely. You will notice some slight imperfections on the paint. It is not something super noticeable unless you are looking at every detail (like me). I just wanted to be honest about the whole condition and figured i would like to know about this if I’m buying a car sight-unseen.
Cool car, while I es living in Puerto Rico i built a fiberglass dune buggy with a 2100 engine that I ran twin Webber’s 48s what’s the size of your carbs ? Also we here in Puerto Rico you get to open the car up. I live in Texas now and every time I take any of my two Porsches out I’ll let rip. I left PR to go to college in 1986 cool car
In photo 114, is that corrosion around the suspension mount?

@AtomicIndustry Hi, that is due to the color saturation in the camera. The pictures where taken during peak hours of sun and look a bit more red than they should.

Welcome to the auction for this beautiful 72, 911T. Please feel free to ask any questions and clear up any doubts you might have. As stated in the description this car is located in Puerto Rico (US territory in the Caribbean). Transportation to mainland US is very simple and not costly, approximately $2,000. I will assist the buyer in the process to secure a transport broker and delivery to the port (15 minutes from current storage garage).
This car has been in our family for approximately two years and has been a wonder to drive and experience. I’m sure that whomever buys it in the US will have a great time for many years to come.

@quintanajorge Makes sense, I think those carbureted cars for Porsche had Zeniths anyway.
@550bryan Hi Bryan, from the available records of prior ownership the car was first registered in Puerto Rico in 2001. This should correlate with when the car was brought on Island.
Some of the early fuel injected cars were not necessarily embraced by the Porsche Enthusiasts. They felt it was underpowered and higher cost to maintain. So many owners would retrofit carburetors to these cars. Some even upgraded the Bosch MFI pump for a Kugelfischer pump for racing applications. This car in particular does have carbs and I could assume it may have been one of those retrofits. Number on the block is 911/57, early in the production but not sure in what sequence the carbureted vs. fuel injected where manufactured. I have to say, the sound is amazing when those Webbers open up. ;-)
The first line of the text below the opening page engine shot states MFI. I was merely pointing that out that discrepancy.
@bsm99 Porsche still used carbs on the 1972T outside of the US, so I wonder if this is a ROW spec car? Who knows what spec was imported to Puerto Rico in 1972, if that is where in fact it was first shipped.
The engine does not appear to be an MFI. At some point it must have been changed to carburation.
