Up for auction is this beautifully restored 1972 Porsche 911T presented in Light Ivory over a black leatherette interior.  Beginning with a bare donor tub, this 911 was custom restored from the ground-up with the goal of achieving a pristine showroom-finish, but with the highest road-going performance available from the era.  All new Mahle engine components were sourced and paired with a genuine 2.7L 7R magnesium case, high-compression pistons, a twin-plug ignition, and mechanical fuel injection.  The brakes were upgraded to 911S-spec and the suspension was overhauled with all new 911SC parts before full restoration of the interior and exterior.  This incredible example is now being offered by its owner in New York with just over 1k miles since the restoration.

From the bare tub, the bodywork was completed by Greg Rowe in his shop.  Four new corner panels were sourced from Porsche and installed with some modifications to the right rear quarter to accommodate the proper 1972-spec external oil filler.  The floor panels were replaced, and the entire car was media stripped before receiving a layer of epoxy primer.  The car was then completely refinished in authentic Glasurit single-stage Light Ivory paint.  The original rear and side window glass were retained, and a new windshield was installed along with all new seals and gaskets.  Much of the original brightwork was re-chromed and some new trim pieces were installed as needed.  Jaudette-converted H4 headlights and new front and rear lighting were sourced, and Hella fog lamps have been added recently. This 911 rides on 6” and 7” Fuchs wheels with brand new period-style Vredestein 195 tires all around.

Inside, the cabin has been freshly appointed with new Porsche carpeting, rebuilt and reupholstered Comfort Seats, a new Porsche headliner, RS door panels, and a re-covered dashboard.  The steering wheel was also restored along with the instrument gauges.

The flat-six engine in this 911 features a genuine 2.7 L 7R magnesium case with all new Mahle components sourced from Porsche.  The case, rods, heads, and crank were sent out to a professional for evaluation and refurbishment as needed.  The 2.4 L fuel injection pump was upgraded to 2.7-spec and new 10.3 high compression RS pistons were installed in addition to a twin-plug electronic ignition system, and a front oil cooler with original ’72 oil lines.  Other upgrades include new shocks, rebuilt axles, rebuilt aluminum 911S brakes, all new Porsche steel and rubber lines, turbo tie rods, a new master brake cylinder, and 911SC suspension components (the larger anti-roll bar and links being from an earlier car).

Gary Fairbanks rebuilt the later-model 915 5-speed manual gearbox, and Tom Florio (a prominent factory-trained technician) assembled the engine before installing the drivetrain into the car.  After this 911T was up and running, it was brought to Chris Radbill, another reputable specialist, to complete the final tuning and sorting of the car.  With the break-in oil changed at 750 miles and another valve adjustment performed at 1k miles, this 911T is said to remain in top running order with approximately 1,200 miles currently shown on the odometer.

This sale will include an extensive collection of restoration receipts, an assortment of spare parts, 2 sets of keys (ignition and door lock), the original suspension, a reproduction owner’s manual, jack, toolkit, and clear registration (N.Y. title exempt).  Beautifully executed and equipped with some of the best performance parts of the early air-cooled era, this fully restored 1972 911T is ready to be enjoyed by a new owner.

@utopify I don't know which photo you are looking at , but I know of no excess adhesive anywhere . The body shop installed the door seals and they were exceptionally neat

Is that glue on the a-pillars? Looks like the glue gun got out of control. Also looks like some visible body work in there?

There haven’t been any questions about the suspension and running gear, but for full disclosure the car is essentially new below the chassis right down to the wheel bearings.

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@hamberger the short story on the motor is that I do not hav a complete specification on what was done while it was at Ollies. I purchased this project from the owners estate after his death without any paperwork while the engine parts were still wrapped and in cartons. It was not a leap of faith as both the owner and I were 30+ year customers of Tom Florio’s shop , the owner was well known and Tom knew that he had been working to an RS specification , that Ollies had been used and that Pacific reworked the mfi pump .

  • hamberger (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

Are you able to provide a few more details about what was done to the engine, especially the case, line boring, and install case saver for the magnesium case. Thanks!

@Porscheguy I've got one ...it goes with the car

  • Porscheguy 3 years, 4 monthsago

Those restoration pictures say 1000 words!. Very nice restoration. Only thing I don't like is the 911 S designation. I would have used 911 T emblem instead of "S".

  • baldkingpin 3 years, 4 monthsago

@MikeALO Very cool. I'm dying to know what this project cost from start to finish. Probably not something to disclose now (akin to revealing the reserve), but perhaps if the car sells you or the winning bidder would consider throwing out a rough figure after auction close. Obviously up to you or the new owner, but I think the Porsche community here would love to know as well. Thanks again.

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@baldkingpin not to blow smoke but Greg Rowe and his brother are masterful auto body techs ( too bad they are retiring). In building the motor Florio said he was given the best parts that the market could provide . And couldn’t have found a better experienced Porsche tech than Chris Radbill to fully sort it. Kudos to those guys.

  • baldkingpin 3 years, 4 monthsago

Simply stunning, Mike. I can't stop looking through the photos. Boy, I get the need for AC in FL but it must be kinda hard to let this one go, no? Beyond the expense, it looks like a real labor of love. Whatever the auction outcome, congratulations on bringing to fruition such a splendid longhood.

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@Clint930 door ajar....took photos too quickly.door fits as it’s supposed to as you can see in other photos . I’ll take another and have it uploaded

  • Clint930 (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

Pictures 10, 11 and 28 show the passenger side door not fitting correctly. Please comment on the fit. Thanks

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@Craignyc Plenty of heat available with the lever on the passenger side of the e-brake.

  • Craignyc (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@MikeALO Does it have heat? You have the AC panel still there. Why not put in electric AC?

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

new photos of the new panels used in body work being uploaded

@MikeALO suggest you contact Pcarmarket direct and have them forward the videos of the car drive by, in car camera, and walk around

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@ALZ38 The original tub was measured to confirm it was straight and undamaged. We saw no need to source a “correct” jig

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@ALZ38 If the buyer wants it shipped to UK you will have to set it up. Reason for selling is a permanent relocation to South Florida with 7 cars , no storage/garage space, and this car has no AC. I have not put the car on a dyno.

  • ALZ38 (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

    Hi

Is shipping possible to UK? Was the fab works carried out on the correct jig? Why are you now selling with only covering 1k miles? Have you any print outs on the HP numbers? Thanks Alan.

  • doctorrgwdc (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@PCARMARKET so no one can know the reserve? Good thing actual car dealerships don’t operate that way! If Someone establishes a reserve value, then that should be able to be proven. Say the person says 75,000 and yet can’t prove value and that reserve is really of no use to anyone in the purchasing of the vehicle.

  • PCARMARKET 3 years, 4 monthsago

@doctorrgwdc based on many years of experience and other data, disclosing the reserve is harmful to both parties. Please trust the system as it works best when all abide and follow it through. Thank you for being part of the PCAR community.

  • doctorrgwdc (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

I I understand the concept of auctions, but if people would post the reserve it would just help people to understand the potential of the possibility of actually wanting to buy the car. Just food for thought.

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@hamberger over 200 photos have been sent in to Pcarmsrket, videos as well. Perhaps they will upload some more. The file folder contains too many receipts to show individually. I’ll take one of the folder and submit

  • hamberger (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@MikeALO Can you share video, additional photos and receipts?

  • rinkerk 3 years, 4 monthsago

@Win Actually there was no rust other than a thin spot in the left rear seat area that was patched. Longitudinal were good and actually the floors were good but badly beaten and dented. Much less time consuming to replace with new. The original rear quarters were modified with patchwork flares and an inch of bondo. We zipped them off as you can see in one of the photos and replaced with new parts from Porsche NA as you can see in another photo.

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@dr911 It is the German weave carpet from Stoddard . Give me a day or so and I’ll look in the 3” folder of receipts

  • Win 3 years, 4 monthsago

Hello, I would like to know how much rust if any was repaired and also what was the reason for having to replace the right quarter panel?

  • dr911 (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

Nice looking car. Can you tell me the brand, color and style of the carpet you installed.

  • brandywine 3 years, 4 monthsago

Bid in the amount of $25,000

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

The only right rear quarter available from Porsche for the early cars does not have the oil fill. The original fill was retained and the replacement fender section was trimmed to fit.

  • PCH (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

Curious. What modifications were required to the right rear quarter to accommodate the 1972-spec external oil filler.

  • rreasen 3 years, 4 monthsago

Bid in the amount of $15,911

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

Videos of drive by and walk round available....and more than 200 additional photos available of the bare metal restoration

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

    Happy to answer any questions.
