Now available for auction is this modified 1973 Porsche 914 6-cylinder. Built with track-going performance in mind, this 914 has been optimized with a lightweight racing interior, an SCCA roll cage, upgraded suspension and a highly modified 3.3L flat-six engine sourced from a 1987 Carrera. Accompanied by PCA, HSR and NASA racing logbooks, this track-focused 914 is ready to be enjoyed having been brought up to excellent running order with a major mechanical service in 2016.
This 914 has been refinished in white, though the original color is noted to have been Orange. The exterior finish is reported to be in good overall condition with some typical signs of wear from racing (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery). Visual details include revised body panels and Fuchs-style wheels.
The cabin has been stripped out and optimized for racing with the addition of custom racing seats, an SCCA #55-885 roll cage and a center mounted gauge cluster.
Power comes from a bored-out 3.3 L flat-six engine which was sourced from a 1987 Carrera. Originally a 3.2L, this engine was rebuilt and upgraded with Weber carburetors, Carrillo rods, Webcam cams and JE forged pistons. A claimed 345 HP is delivered to the rear wheels by way of a Porsche Type 901 transmission which features an external oil cooler and pump. Other performance upgrades include Isky Racing valve springs, Koni rear shocks and Wilwood front brake calipers with orbital rotors. A comprehensive mechanical service was also performed in 2016 which included:
- Heads Removed, Timing Checked
- Clutch Replaced
- Master Cylinder Replaced
- Transmission Rebuilt

@AIR_MotorSports The engine build was prior to 1999. We were told less than 50 hours since then. We had the engine disassembled and refreshed in 2016. No more than ten hours since then. Weber carbs were fresh remanufactured in 2016.
@AIR_MotorSports We have not run a compression check on the engine, but could do so given some time and serious intent.
We have run the car on racing fuel for the most part, and would only recommend continuing to do so.
This is a single plug motor.
There are some VIN numbers, but limited. No title, the car was sold to my associate in 2013 on a Bill of Sale.
A few questions:
What compression ratio is the motor and does it run on pump gas? Twin plug or single plug? How many hours since it was rebuilt?
Does the car have a title? All VIN tags and stamping intact?

We do not know the mileage on the 1987 donor engine. However, we believe less than 60 hours since the rebuild, prior to 1999. The car was raced 8 times from 1999-2001 (Primarily VIR and North Carolina SCCA events.) Since 2013 acquisition only limited track time was observed. Additional track time after 2016 engine refresh and tuning. Total less than 10 hours since 2013.

We would not recommend attempting a street conversion. We may have access to another 914 that has been in storage for more than 20 years if you would consider buying both cars and a doing your own conversion.
