Now available for auction is this 1973 Porsche 911 T Targa presented in Light Yellow over a black leather interior.  Marking one of the most visually iconic Porsche 911’s of all time, the Targa model is instantly recognizable by its signature roll-over hoop and wraparound rear dome glass.  Having been under the care of its longtime previous owner and Porsche Club of America regional president up until 2019, this 1973 example has been diligently looked after while being stored in a climate-controlled environment.  Shown to be in impeccable overall condition with service records from new, this number’s matching 911 Targa is just waiting to be cherished by its next caretaker with approximately 71k miles showing on the odometer.

This 911 is said to have been professionally refinished in its factory original color of Light Yellow during the 1990’s.  The paint is reported to be in great shape and the brightwork also remains superb, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery.  This Targa retains its factory intended appearance with its chrome roll-over hoop, fog lights and alloy Fuchs wheels which come dressed in Falken tires.

Inside, the black leather upholstered cabin is said to be in excellent condition with all gauges and accessories remaining fully functional.  New carpeting has been fitted, a Blaupunkt radio has been installed and the seller indicates that upgraded Recaro seats were equipped in 1980.  Factory features include speakers for the rear shelf as well as an air conditioning system.

This Targa carries its original 2.4 L flat-six fuel-injected engine which sends 140 HP to the rear wheels through a number’s matching 5-speed manual transmission.  Factory stabilizers bars are equipped, and an upgraded 911 S suspension has also been installed along with S-spec brakes.  The engine is said to have been completely gone through under previous ownership with all hardware painstakingly refinished to as-new factory standards.  This Targa is stated to be in outstanding driving order with a comprehensive collection of service records showing regular maintenance from new.  In-depth photos of the undercarriage and engine compartment are also included for reference.

The sale of this 911 will include a set of two keys, original books and tools, a spare tire, service records dating back to the original purchase and a Porsche certificate of Authenticity.  A truly well-presented example, this 1973 Targa is not to be overlooked.

    @Ravenna45 just posted

  • uas (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

Engine rebuild receipts would be a game changer for me in bidding, and overall value to the car.

  • Steviebatz (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Ravenna45 I will post some soon, this car was a concourse d’Elegance trailer queen for the last 20 years and the past owner was elderly so as for speed anyone that pushes cars will take the correct safety measures starting with the tires!

  • Ravenna45 (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

I would love to see some recent service records if you could post them, please. I'm surprised there are not at least some parts receipts from the rebuild by the past owner. As far as tires go this car will travel in the 120MPH area at least and 8 year old tires won't fit anyone's safety needs.

@Ravenna45 tires are 8 years old but show no signs of dry rotting! Miles can’t be more than 2000 ! Previous owner had the car for 20 plus years and only put 5,000 on it! He built a custom Enclosed trailer for it and drove around the country to the PCA events !showing it! That’s why it doesn’t even have its first paint chip yet!!

  • Ravenna45 (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Steviebatz That could be a dash cap over the original. That was done quite regularly because the dashes always cracked just to the right of the instrument cluster and detached around the vents. For along time the replacements were expensive and very hard to come by. Today a quality interior company can recover the original. One can tell by feeling the bottom of the dash obove radio and aircondition controls.

  • Ravenna45 (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Steviebatz I would love to see those pictures.

  • Ravenna45 (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Steviebatz That could very well be those are S style bumperettes. Actually they were fitted to all but the CIS cars in 1973. I wonder if he upgraded the engine in any way? Could you tell me the age of tires and tread life, please? Lovely car I sold a 74 Carrera Targa in that color a couple of years ago. I think it is somewhere around Florida. Miss that car.

  • Steviebatz (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Ravenna45 I’ve had the car almost a year and barely do I get a drop of oil after a long drive. It’s sealed really well!not like my 74 I had !

  • Steviebatz (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Ravenna45 I have photos of the detailed painting in the 90’s and it’s the same dash!I hope that helps thanks for the interest.

  • Steviebatz (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Ravenna45 I don’t know the history of the bumpers but in my conversations with the previous owner before he passed away he said the car is all up to S specs that possibly included trim items. I learn something new with good questions like that. It’s only my second 911 and there is a lot to learn! Thanks for your interest!

  • Ravenna45 (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

I should have asked before but the bumperettes are from a non-CIS 1973 car. The 73 CIS cars carried those large black triangular shaped ones. Do you happen to have those? I also noticed on picture 116 there seems to be a bit of oil seepage on the heat exchanger. Did you notice that?
    Many thanks for your time.

  • Ravenna45 (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

I notice the dash is from an earlier 911. I assume the original was pulled with the repaint. Is that dash still around?

Very nice example of a super clean 1973 Circa 911T. I know this car and the owner and have seen it many times at the local South Florida PCA events. Always draws a crowd.

  • Steviebatz (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Steviebatz good morning the video of the start up was only after a couple of days sitting when I do my weekly Sunday drive it takes just a little bit longer to warm it up!

@uas the number one rule if you are going to buy old Porsches is that you need a good wrencher that will take care of your car at a reasonable price. Cause you know you will need them. Good luck

  • uas (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Mercyhealth thanks....I fiure why waste time playing around? Im a bit disappointed about no documentation on engine/trans, but I guess well shall see how reasonable seller is!

@rhmoritz yes Ac works it blows good but has not been charged since the previous owner in aprox 3 years ! I have gone through the receipts and noticed numerous maintenance records and continuous upkeep of the AC . I will do my best to get a nice video of start up and running through gears and at speed! Thanks again for your interest

  • rhmoritz (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

Beautiful Targa! Does the A/C work? Can you post a start up/driving video?

Yellow always seems a bit over the top when a new 911 is speced. However give it a few years or 47 and it becomes awesome. My wife said she wanted a yellow targa so let’s get going.

  • Steviebatz (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Cgt000 no sorry I have two head rest from 73 sport seats most likely the originals that I had on ebay but I could include them if requested!

  • Steviebatz (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@traverhutchins it’s never seen rain in 20 years but when I wash it with pressure no water inside turned up!the only flaw on this car is the edge where side windows hit the targa top !the rubber is poor!that was the last thing on the past owners list to better!

  • traverhutchins (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

Any issues with leaking with the seals around the top?

    Thanks.

  • Cgt000 (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

Do you have the original seats?

  • Steviebatz (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@uas i don’t have any records of engine work because previous owner did all the work himself and the circle of friends he had ! He was a past PCA Goldcoast region president For many years and I bought the car off his widow!he was so meticulous like most Porsche guys are but he went to the trouble in his garage to redipped all undercarriage bolts in the proper zinc formula as you can see in some photos! Sorry if didn’t help that much ! The car is near perfect concourse in every way! One scuff on the driver seat and window edge trim were it meets the targa! This car was trailered around the country in a custom built enclosed trailer since the year 2000 right after the paint was done. There is not a single chip on the car!thanks again for your interest!
