This 1973 Porsche 911E Coupe was delivered new in Arkansas finished in Sepia Brown over a tan interior with optional Sport Seats and tartan cloth inserts. The car was also optioned with a rare Sportomatic transmission and electric sunroof. It was acquired as an abandoned project car by the current owner in 2008 and has been kept in storage ever since. The ideal basis for restoration including a numbers matching engine and transmission, this 911E is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New Jersey.

This Coupe was factory finished in Sepia Brown (415) and wears a 911S-style front spoiler and trim pieces. The car rides on factory 15” ATS “cookie cutter” wheels and the seller notes factory wiring is in place for auxiliary front driving lights. The exterior is believed to have been refinished in its original color at one point and some areas are currently primed for additional paintwork. Some rust is noted on the passenger side rear parcel shelf and the car is described to be in very good structural condition otherwise, detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The tan interior is factory equipped with a pair of highly desirable Sport Seats with tartan cloth inserts. A period Nardi steering wheel is equipped along with a vintage Blaupunkt Richmond cassette radio. Other features include an optional electric sunroof, tinted glass, and a dealer-installed under-dash A/C system. Some damages are shown on the seats and the seller recommends the dashboard and carpeting be replaced.

This 911E carries a fuel-injected 2.4-liter flat-six engine paired with a Sportomatic semi-auto 4-speed transmission that drives the rear wheels. Introduced in 1967, the Sportomatic gearbox offered manual operation with a vacuum-operated clutch that engaged automatically when the driver grabbed the shift knob. The seller states that upgraded 911S front brakes and sway bars have been equipped and notes the original engine does not turn over at this time. The car is recommended for complete mechanical recommissioning by its next owner.

This sale will include the original owner’s manuals, some documentation, and a clean title.

Posting additional pictures of the sunroof drains as requested. Also adding pictures of area around the inside of the rear window . Adding pictures of the access area for shift linkage to the transmission and the rear floor area . Pictures of the front seat frames with seats removed included earlier . There is absolutely no flood evidence anywhere that I can see . Floor , rocker panels , longitudinals , battery boxes , front suspension , doors , lock posts , bottom of the front fenders and rear quarter panels are all solid to the best of my knowledge .I characterize all the rust in question as nothing more than surface rust from the long storage . I am a 45 year PCA member as an aside .

@eurocol Garage is not below grade . Anything you see appears to me to be nothing more than surface rust . There is no evidence that I can see that this car was ever in a flood but I have no specific knowledge of its history before the current owner . As I said , I have found no serious rust anywhere other than the right side of the rear parcel shelf . The left side of the parcel shelf appears to be solid . I would say that what you see is surface rust from sitting for so long . This is a very solid example . I believe I have been honest and straightforward in my descriptions .
I’ll post additional pictures in the morning .

@GreenT thank you for the reply,
it certainly looks like the engine was in standing water at some time then,
is your apartment parking garage underground?
do you know where it was stored prior to your ownership?
Picture #102 shows heavy rusting of components like the cylinder head air deflector plates,
that I have only seen on flood damaged 911s.
The undercarriage is also heavily rusted, surface?, A arms, shocks etc.

Could you please provide close up shots of the sunroof drain hole areas showing the rust,
also is the underside of the rear parcel shelf under the drain holes affected?
Just want to know what I am letting myself in for,
as I would love to rescue this 911.

    many thanks

  • GreenT (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@eurocol Never flooded during current ownership . Purchased as a stalled project . Car sat untouched in an apartment house garage for about 14 years .Car is very solid - battery boxes , front suspension , rocker panels , longitudinal , floor , rear torsion tube from all that we have seen . Rear parcel shelf rust possibly from a blocked sunroof drain as a guess. Nothing evident regarding stuck motor . I suspect a stuck piston(s) but that’s only a guess .

  • eurocol (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

    @GreenT Interesting Sportomatic 911E,

however the underside of the engine and it's components look very rusty and corroded as if it were it were in a flood, as does all the suspension and floors.
Was the car and engine in a flood flooded?
Or did the engine throw a timing chain, bend a valve or seize a piston??
What is the reason for the engine not turning over?
Would be nice to know what is involved here in the rebuild.

    Many thanks,

No spare wheel or tire . No tool kit or jack either . Otherwise looks to be complete as described / shown in the write up .

  • jls356guy (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Figure $20-25k for engine rebuild (more for tranny if it needs work), $20-30k for bodywork and paint plus interior work and you're looking at dropping $60-70k pretty quickly.

  • joco18 (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Is the spare wheel/tire missing? or will it be included in the sale?
Besides the battery, are their any other parts that are missing? mechanical, interior, or trim?
