Available for auction is this 1973 Porsche 911T Coupe finished in Light Yellow over a black vinyl interior. The 1973 model year was the last of the original long-hood body style, while 911T’s designated for the United States came fitted with a new 140 HP fuel-injected engine. This Coupe was originally sold from Carlsen Porsche of Palo Alto, California, and eventually acquired by the seller from its second owner during the late 1970s. The car has benefited from a complete engine rebuild over the years as well as upgraded Carrera chain tensioners, a new clutch, rebuilt brake calipers, and a more recent bare-metal repaint. A lifelong California car, this classic 911T is now being offered for auction by its caretaker of over 40 years.
In 2019, this 911T was fully disassembled, stripped to bare metal, and refinished in its original non-metallic color of Light Yellow (117). A new windshield was fitted upon reassembly along with all new seals and weather stripping. Exterior equipment includes chrome headlight bezels, black U.S. market bumperettes, a chrome driver-side mirror, antenna, and rocker deco moldings. The factory 15” Fuchs wheels are mounted with Sumitomo tires from 2007. Additional images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin retains its original black leatherette seats while the headliner and driver-side carpeting have been replaced. Equipment includes a Blaupunkt radio, an analog clock, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a locking glove box, and a set of custom Coco mats in the footwells. The seller notes the rear window defroster is currently inoperable and reports the mileage shown on the 5-digit odometer is accurate.
The 911T is equipped with a 2.4L flat-six engine and Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection. The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed 915 manual transaxle. The engine was fully rebuilt in 2006 and upgraded with Carrera chain tensioners. Other items over the years included a rebuilt alternator, rebuilt pedal box, rebuilt brake calipers, a new clutch, all new hoses, and a short-throw shift kit.
This sale will include a clean title. Cared for by the same owner most of its life and thoroughly refurbished over the past 20 years, this 1973 911T is ready to begin its journey with a new driver.

This car was purchased new from Gus Mozart's VW Porsche by my neighbor in Palo Alto (Carlson bought the dealership in the early 1980's). I have pictures of this car back when it was new stashed away somewhere. Yellow and blacked out trim looked great (and still does). The original owner's brother also had a Pantera purchased new, fun times for sure.

The clunking is the sway bars,they have nylon bushings.

I did notice a clunking sound in the driving videos. Can you comment on what that might be?
The is a number matching car. That had not been started for about 3 weeks and the smoke is water vapor. I don't have any photos of the engine apart as I never planned to part with it.
The T was the entry-level model as well as Touring. The motor in all 73's was a 2.4 liter. The difference between the T and S was difference pistons and cylinders, different cams and the induction system. I don't have leak down or a compression test. All work was done by myself as I have extensive experience in auto repairs. I have ASE licenses A-6, A-8, L-1 and Ca Smog EA1.
Do you have any compression test/ leak down check available? There seemed to be some difficulty with the cold start and significant exhaust smoke.

My recollection is that the 1973 911T was the entry-level Porsche, compared to the 911S, but the differences between the two escape me. I don't even know if the engines were the sake displacement.
And I'm not sure my recollection is reliable, as I've been "corrected" by smarter-folks who say the "T" designates a Touring Model, not entry-level model. Can you please set me straight?
Also, I'm unclear about who worked on the engine, when it was rebuilt. You said -

This sounds like you did the work, and got parts cheap from a Porsche Shop, but didn't keep track of the receipts of parts purchased, so there's no records to review specifying what's already been replaced in the engine, nor records to prove the mileage, though the engine sure sounds good in the videos.
If you're the one who did the work, I'm hoping you might have photos of the tear-down, and can give us some personal details, such as, are you a mechanic by trade, or had friends who provided guidance, or just did it with determined dedication.
Finally let me say that my Dad loved his 1940 Half-Ton Pick-Up (with the venerable flat-head V-8), and rebuilt the V8 in an unheated garage during the winter of 1965. I watched a small part of the process, and helped rebuilt the distributor in the Spring, which was surprisingly easy.
Guys who maintain their own cars are the true aficionado's, and unfortunately, a dying breed. I salute you.

I'm looking at receipt from the engine rebuild that is dated 4/06. That's when I reassembling the motor,which is totally stock. The motor has less than 10,000 miles. I have few receipts as I get my parts from a friend that has a Porsche shop. The car has zero rust as it was rarely parked outside. The car has been in the Bay Area Ca. It's whole life. Thanks
Hi Bob, can you comment on when the engine rebuild was done from a mileage perspective? Was the engine rebuild back to stock or any modifications? Do you have documentation on the work that was done? Is there any rust on the car currently?
