Up for auction is this 1973 Porsche 914 2.0 finished in Light Ivory over a brown interior.  This 1973 example was purchased by the current owner in April of 2016, having been previously been optimized for use as a D.E. track car with the installation of a full roll cage, MOMO racing driver’s seat and steering wheel, a safety harness, an emergency cutoff switch, and a performance exhaust.  A visceral mid-engine sports car that can be enjoyed both on and off the track, this 914 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Boston, MA.

This 914 is finished in Light Ivory with chrome bumpers, black vinyl sail covers, and a removable Targa top. Some cosmetic damage and signs of road-going wear are present throughout the exterior as can be seen in the photo gallery.  This 914 rides on factory 15” Fuchs four-bolt wheels that are currently dressed in Goodyear Eagle Sport all-season tires dated from 2015.  An additional set of aftermarket 15” x 6.5” Minilite wheels will also accompany the sale and come dressed in Avon Tech R track tires.

Inside, the driver is situated within a partially stripped brown leatherette interior with a full roll cage, MOMO racing driver’s seat, a MOMO Corse three-spoke steering wheel, and a 5-point TRW safety harness.  The inner door panel armrests and pockets have been removed along with the center console and some items will accompany the sale separately including the driver's seat.  The seller reports all gauges to be working properly and the 5-digit odometer currently reads approximately 31k miles (tmu).

Power comes from an air-cooled 2.0L flat-four engine that is said to have been previously rebuilt. Approximately 95 HP is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission.  An emergency cutoff switch has been added to the rear engine lid and an upgraded Supertrapp exhaust has been installed.  The car is described to be in strong running order and there are no outstanding maintenance items reported at this time.

This sale will include the original door pocket and center console, an additional set of wheels, and a clean title.  The perfect air-cooled driver for any track-going enthusiast, this 914 offers an excellent value.

@PMason You could replace the bucket seat with the regular seat provided
Replace the inner door panels and do some respect of hood an left rear quarter panel
Again it’s a completely rust free car which is highly unique

    Seller,
Can you please provide a list of cosmetic and mechanical items you would recommend for your 914 to become a fun, reliable and somewhat aggressive street car? Thank you.

Thank you Vietnam 6871 for your nice comments.
I agree with you , with some engine tweaking, these 914?can be very fast cars. This car has a sharper cam and is quite fast as is.
The transmission is in very good condition, 5 speed and it up shifts and down shifts very smoothly.
It can be kept as a track car or easily cosmetically restored - doesn’t need much.

Hello kraftwerk, ( nice name by the way)
Thank you for your nice comments.
I have had the car about 5 years, but it mostly lived it’s life in the southwest, which explains the great body condition. It’s an unbelievable car with a very clean undercarriage.

I took pictures of both the side jack point and the disc under, which I use mostly myself.
I don’t know exactly what you refer to but both sides are totally rust free, and the black cover plates on both sides are in place
I’ll upload pictures but they might not be published until Tuesday due to the holiday
Good luck with the bidding. You won’t get disappointed!

How are the jack points? Either side (ie. the box -hole opening for OEM jack). Do the rocker rubber pad's still have the original plastic rivets or have they been switched out to metal? Mine had the original plastic ones ! Nice car, North-East survivor.

I have a very early 73 914 which was badged as an “S”, not a “2.0” There are 3 areas of concern on all of the 914s. Rust is number 1. Engine is number 2 and 901 transmission is number 3. If these three items are deemed OK by an inspection, then it is a great candidate for a cosmetic resto. There is zero rust in my car, the 901 has been rebuilt and I defy you to find a better one. The engine is in great shape but I am going to switch to 2.1 liter Ps&Cs with higher compression and a different cam, designed to maximize carbs and the higher compression. The HP will jump to around 120-125. Get this car at a reasonable price and put the money into the cosmetics, you won’t regret it.

It is in the seller's best interest to provide photos of the rockers with covers removed. Similarly, a cold start/driving video will help potential buyers make an informed decision.

  • Bengt (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

I will take pictures tomorrow morning of the undercarriage and can take a picture of the hellhole as well
Can probably not remove the rocker covers for pictures

  • Easyal (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Will you be taking photos of the "hellhole" and rockers with the covers off?

  • Bengt (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

There are 2 side bars included with the cage. One for each door.
As far as I know the car is absolutely rust free. Even the battery compartment in the rear is solid.
Haven’t seen any rust in the rockers.
I’ll get back to your on the other questions later today.
Thank you very much for your interest!

There are some brackets on the roll bar without bolts what are those brackets for? Is something missing? Has the metal behind the pedals been replaced? It is hard to tell from the photos but it looks like the car has been resprayed/touched up in certain areas. There are certainly chips covered in white in certain places. Can you please confirm those touch-ups? Overall it looks pretty solid. Is there any rust in the rocker panels? Do you have any video of the car on the track? I am in the market but over the course of the last few months prices have climbed over my budget. I will be a competitive bidder. Thank you!

Welcome to the auction of a great and very quick 914.
During the last tune up the mechanics who knows these cars very well told me , it was one of the fastest 914/2.0 he ever driven.
It has been a wonderful car that always starts up on first crank and has been very loyal to me.
Whoever wins the auction will have a lot of fun with this car!
