Now available at auction is this 1973 Porsche 914 finished in Phoenix Red over a black leatherette interior. Originally sold at Vasek Polak Porsche/Audi of Hermosa Beach, California, this 914 was optioned with a 5-speed manual transmission, tinted glass, the Appearance Group, a vinyl-covered roll bar, a dual-tone horn, chromed bumpers, and 15” steel wheels, at a sticker price of $5,839. Remaining under the care of the original owner until 2021, this well-preserved 914 is now being offered at auction by the seller based out of California with 61,588 miles on the odometer, accompanied by the owner’s manual and the original window sticker.
The body of this 914 is finished in Phoenix Red (L32K), a shade offered exclusively on 914 models. Some minor imperfections are noted throughout the exterior, and the passenger side door and part of the rear fender have been refinished at some point during the previous ownership. The undercarriage is in exceptional condition with no signs of rust. Equipped with the optional “Appearance Group”, this 914 features chrome bumpers, a vinyl-covered roll bar, and front fog lights. The 15” ventilated steel wheels are mounted with Nexen tires showing date codes from 2020.
The cabin is trimmed in black leatherette with basketweave patterned upholstery on the seats and dashboard beltline. Amenities include an optional center console, pile-type carpeting, a leatherette-wrapped steering wheel, an under-dash console, a leather shift boot, fresh air heating and ventilation, a dual-tone horn, and an IDI AM/FM stereo. The seller reports the interior to remain in excellent condition.
This 914 is equipped with an air-cooled 1.7L flat-four engine that sends approximately 80 HP to the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual gearbox. Standard routine maintenance is said to have been kept up by the original owner, and the seller notes the engine runs strong and the transmission shifts smoothly.
This sale will include the original window sticker, owner’s manuals, maintenance record booklet, original sales invoice, spare tire, jack, and partial tool kit.

Sorry for being late to the party but I would like to comment on the "center console". This was a Porsche option that was referred to as a "Package Box". The Porsche part number is 914 559 037 00/12/13 depending on material or color. This was not an aftermarket item but a true Porsche option.

I own a 1.7 and they are no slouch,
of course it would not stand a chance against a GT3RS:)),
or modern cars, but that is not the point.
For me it is about the driving experience.
The 914 is a very well balanced car that can be driven in a sporty and spirited fashion.
This is a wonderful example of a lovely 914 in a superb color and very well presented,
the current bid here is well under it's true current value.

I didn’t say this is a bad car. 0-60 in 12 seconds is very slow. My 914 was a one owner, 92K example that was treated with love and an open checkbook from new. Nicer than this one, and had every receipt since the day it was sold.

Not sure why you are suggesting our 914 is like your old 914 when you have not even driven it.
Every 50-year-old car will drive differently depending upon miles and condition. I have driven 1.7, 1.8, 2.0, and 914-6s with 2.0L and this original 914 will not disappoint! The drivability is amazing, it is a blast to drive and the engine has plenty of power! It revs up to 5,000 RPM in 1st gear, gets up to 23 MPH in a few seconds, and is a 5-speed. It is not your 911SC or a GT3RS but this 914 is not slow or boring to drive…
You or anyone is welcome to come in and test drive this 914 and you will not be disappointed.
This is a gorgeous 914. I owned a similar condition Saturn Yellow 72 with the 1.7. Just a warning if you’ve not driven this configuration, they are very slow off the line. It’s virtually impossible to enjoy a spirited drive with Porsche friends driving 911s. Once up to speed they corner well, but the catching up after a stop is a real challenge. That’s why I sold mine. I have an 80 SC Coupe now (among other Porsches) that I love infinitely more.

The 1973 and later 914s fitted with center consoles had three optional VDO gauges and vertical orientation. Topmost was a clock, with an oil temperature gauge below and at the bottom of the stack a voltage meter. These were optional on 2.0 cars, although the majority of the US cars had them. This 914 is 100% original. I will take close-ups photos of the center console and do some research. But nothing has been removed or modified.

I am not a 914 expert. I owned a 1970 which I purchased new and a 73 2.0 that I purchased that was well used. I do not remember seeing a center console like this w/o gauges. Possibly this is a modification of the original. The window sticker does indicate the center console as part of the appearance group.
@opener I had a 73 1.7 with the gauge package as part of the appearance group. Do know that Porsche made a lot of changes as inflation hit.
I think that was only in the 2.0.
Thought the appearance group always had the center gauges.
