This 1973 Porsche 914 has been restored as a 914-6 GT tribute at a cost of over $100k, featuring a repaint in its original rare finish of Marathon Blue, a rebuilt 3.2L Carrera motor built by Porsche specialist Greg Fordahl, a 915 5-speed manual transmission with a Quaife limited-slip differential, Boxster brake calipers over Carrera discs, GT-style composite flairs and rockers, and an upgraded suspension with Von and Koni shocks, Hypercoil springs, an Elephant Racing custom bump steer kit, quick change camber plates, adjustable spring perches, a custom front anti-roll bar, all new bushings, and more. Said to have been professionally built using only the best components available, this 914-6 GT tribute is now being offered at auction by the seller based out of Massachusetts.

The exterior is finished in the rarely-seen color of Marathon Blue (L96M), which was repainted around 5 years ago, with removable Gulf Orange vinyl striping.  A set of 914-6 GT-style composite fender flares and rockers were added during the refinish, along with chassis and trailing arm stiffening kits. Other equipment includes a removable black targa top panel, a correct 914-6 GT engine panel, front and rear polished bumper trim, a paint-matched front chin spoiler, yellow fog lights, and pop-up headlights. The seller notes some minor nicks in the paint, detailed images are provided in the gallery. The polished 16” Fuchs-style wheels wear Porsche center caps and are mounted with Hankook Ventus V2 tires that were said to have been installed in 2020.

The interior is upholstered in black vinyl and features two lightweight Ultra Shield seats with perforated centers and 5-point Simpson racing harnesses attached to a roll bar. Details include a MOMO steering wheel with a Gulf horn button and a quick disconnect hub, custom floormats with red 914-6 script and binding, a Rennshift shifter, aluminum pedals, and a new carpet kit and center console. The seller reports some cracking on the dashboard and a small hole in the driver’s seat.

This 914 is powered by a 3.2L Carrera engine, which was built by Porsche specialist Greg Fordahl. It has been fitted with 964 Web cams, ARP rod bolts, a K&N air filter, a 60-row oil cooler with a 180-degree thermostat, a high-torque starter, and a new fuel pump and lines with AN connections. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 915 manual gearbox with a recently replaced clutch and lightweight flywheel, a Patrick Motorsports Wevo shift kit with shift rod assembly and Wevo tailshift system, and a Quaife limited-slip differential.  The suspension has been fitted with all new bushings, 4 new wheel bearings, 22mm front torsion bars with Elephant Racing threaded 17mm spindles, quick-change camber plates, an Elephant Racing custom bump steer kit, Von Level 2 shocks in front, Koni Yellow Sport shocks in the rear, 200 lb. Hypercoil springs on adjustable spring perches, a custom front adjustable anti-roll bar, and a  Tangerine Racing rear suspension inner heim rod brace. Stopping power is derived from Boxster brake calipers over Carrera discs, with stainless steel brake lines and a new 22mm master cylinder and brace kit. The seller reports that regular oil changes and fluid exchanges were performed under their ownership.

This sale will include a clean title, a car cover, a battery tender, and some service documentation.

I owned this 914/6 from 2009-2014 and bought it back from 2015-2019. I hope the new owner enjoys it as much as I did. Congrats to buyer and seller. Cheers

Hi all the 914 guys out there- I can't imagine this 914-6 going for these dollars that are up now-I sure hope the seller has a good reserve on this beautiful 914- I selling cars now due to age and no time to keep them up to my standards- so I have to pass- but if I could bid I would be a lot higher at this time- get the cash out- with a Gregg Fordahl engine-this is special- I Auto X ed against him in the late 2000's he was good and so were his cars

@Boston911 backroads not background…..this car deserves the foreground!!!

  • Boston911 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@Arffbubba what I can tell you is that although I run mostly on backgrounds I have had no problem keeping (if not passing) traffic at 70+ without putting any strain on engine and putting some modern cars to shame. Although I can’t remember specific numbers I never forget the sound of a hi-rpm and haven’t run this car even close to its limit. Hope that helps.

  • Arffbubba (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@Boston911 understand.. just want enough gear to run at modern freeway speeds 75-85..

  • Boston911 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@Arffbubba unfortunately I can’t confirm before auction ends as I am out of town tonight. I can look to see if I can find it from some videos but I would hate to guess.

  • Arffbubba (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

Hello Boston 911, love your car and your Garage. Could you advise rpm’s in 5th gear at 75mph? Thanks in advance. Keith

  • Boston911 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@britco4 hear ya on the speed. But you know the 914 hugs the corners better than any VW could.

@Boston911 - Excellent answers... really appreciate it. The 914 I had backing the 70's was definitely underpowered (passed by a vw bug which hurt my feelings). I'm floor space limited with some other Pcars but yours is very tempting. Thanks...

@britco4 Great question. I do not track my cars. I love liveries and do own a couple of offroad Porsche safaris which I do get muddy as often as I can. I also have some road rally cars that drive distance but not track. I also have cars that i have used more for local shows and some cruising (like this one). This car has been only on the roads under my ownership although I would say it would be a blast on the track or autocross. In terms of issues, the car runs great. I only run in summer so not sure about a cold winter start but i have never driven in the winter in this car. It idles fine as shown in the video, shifts well, gauges work, suspension is dialed in, no visible leaks, drives amazing (see the video shifting through the gears at speed), hugs the road and the curves. As noted, a couple of paint nicks, tiny puncture on drivers seat, small ding on windshield (been there for years), but thats it. Car doesn't smoke. Brakes are great (hand and foot). Clutch is solid. This car is ready to drive.

  • britco4 (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

    Very Nice. A few questions:
    1. Any history you can provide on track time / frequency / competition / or for fun? Other cars in the stable where some of the pics were taken look like a variety of track cars.
    2. Full disclosure on any issues with the car - engine, suspension, ride/drivability @ higher speeds, whatever else.
    Thanks - GLWTA.. cfb

@lando If by a/c you mean does the wind blow cool through your hair (or less hair like me) with the windows down and roof off then I would say absolutely! Other than that 914s didn’t come with a/c. Heat on the other hand has not been a problem.

@Bruce914 thanks for commenting. No bumper is not uneven or pushed up etc. my driveway to my barn does have an angle to it so that may be throwing the visual off a bit.

  • Bruce914 (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

I love this car - watching closely. Looking at the pic from straight on, why does the body look "uneven"? Is the driver side bumper pushed up? Trying to figure it out.

  • Boston911 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@Chupee as I mentioned I’m not an expert. I believe you may be correct in that this kit from wevo is used to change a tail shift to a side shift. I believe this was the kit although it was done before me. What I can tell you is the car shifts perfectly. Zero issues!

Wevo 915 Transmission Tail Shifter System

Facilitates 1972-1986 Porsche 911 / 915 Transmission Tail / Side Shifter Conversion To Mid-Engine Configuration

Specially Developed For 1970-1976 Porsche 914 Chassis Conversion To 915 Trans-Axles
System Replaces The Original Nose Cone Cover And Reverses Shifter Selector Shaft To Face Forward In The Chassis On The Bottom Left Side Of The Trans-Axle

  • Chupee (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@Boston911 Sorry to not quite understand.I thought in 73 all the 914 had gone to the side shift due to the terrible performance of the tailshift which I own by the way. When I research the 914 upgrades it says it s a side shift upgrade

The WEVO 915 Side Shift kit is a new approach to an old problem.

How do you have a tail shift in a 73? appreciate the clarification.. thx!!

A few more photos, a cold start & driving video have been taken and are in queue with PCAR to be uploaded. Keep the questions (and those bids coming). I just drove her and started to question if I should even sell.....she's amazing. You wont be disappointed with the power, the handling, the looks, everything!

@RockyS happy to take some additional pics. Ride height is back to stock. I do t know the exact. Yes it can be lowered as it was before. I will look for an older picture with it lowered. I only raised to make sure I didn’t scrape on my driveway.

  • RockyS (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

Can you provide pics of the chassis and battery he’ll hole. Is the rear height lifted by how much? Is it on coil overs that can be adjusted down and still drive nice?

@dsdepew absolutely can post a cold start video. Will do my best to get out this weekend and get a driving video. As for the vinyl my belief is about 3 years but was done before me. The car has been stored in side and under a cover (which also comes with the car).

  • dsdepew (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

Looks very nice. Can you please post a cold start and a driving video? How long has the vinyl been on the car? TIA

  • Boston911 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@automotiveartist I have a stack of receipts on the car. I believe the odometer was reset with the engine build but will see what i can find. From my ownership i have done typical maintenance of oil changes, etc.

  • Boston911 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@automotiveartist the flares are composite. I dont believe they were cut but not sure. My understanding was that they came this way. Was done before me. I did raise the ride height a bit to put it back to stock so i could get in my driveway :-). It can easily be lowered and it looks awesome

  • automotiveartist (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

How many miles are on the engine? Do you have service history on it? I love the color on the car.

  • automotiveartist (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

Very nice. Are the flares steel? Why were they cut high? Do you know?

  • Boston911 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@Chupee The car is fully painted in marathon blue. All other colors (orange) are vinyl. The Porsche hood logo decal is on top. The original hood badge has been removed (I have an extra and happy to send with the car :-) )

  • Chupee (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

Is the vinyl on top of the hood badge or under it?

  • Boston911 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@Nelal will take a few tonight and post. It is not a cage to be clear. Its a harness bar. Will send a picture of that as well

  • Nelal 1 year, 8 monthsago

Shots with top off? Would like to see roll bar/cage.

  • Boston911 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@Chupee tail. 915 transmission with a Wevo tail shift

  • Chupee (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

    very nice!

    side or tail shift?

    thx

  • Boston911 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

Hey folks. Hard to see one of my babies go up but it’s time to have her go to a new home and make room for something new. This is the third 914 I have owned and it’s honestly amazing. The roar of the engine, the power, the looks. Everything about it is just great. Please feel free to ask me any questions. I am an avid collector and driver but not an expert by any stretch, but am willing to do my best answering all that I can.
