The Volkswagen Beetle, which has been in production for more than 60 years, is arguably the most widely recognized car in history and has left its mark on both the automotive industry and popular culture. This 1973 convertible version comes finished in red over black upholstery. Throughout the past year, this example was fitted with replacement items including the convertible top, wheels, tires, chrome trim, turn signals, and a new carburetor. Pairing a 4-speed manual transmission to its 1.6-liter flat-four, this Beetle is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.

This Beetle is said to have been previously refinished in its current shade of red. Upon the seller’s acquisition approximately one year ago, the convertible top was replaced and new turn signals were installed along with new chrome bodyside moldings and new final-year 15” Enkei wheels. The custom-finished wheels are dressed in Sumitomo tires from 2021 and 2022. Additional details include “elephant foot” taillights, chrome bumpers & headlight trim, and quarter vent windows, and dual exhaust outlets. Additional images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin presents black leatherette upholstery which spans the seats, door panels, and dashboard. Equipment includes a four-spoke steering wheel, a locking glovebox, roll-up windows, door-mounted grab handles, and various dashboard-mounted switches and controls. The seller adds that the headliner and carpets have been replaced. An area of rust is noted behind the rear seats along with cracks in the dashboard. The speedometer is currently inoperable and the radio turns on, although no sound comes out.

Beneath the hood lies a 1.6-liter (1,585cc) flat-four engine and single-barrel carburetor. As much as 57 HP and 82 lb.-ft of torque is sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. The seller adds that a new carburetor was fitted within the past year.

This sale will include a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for your interest in this 73 Beetle Convertible! I took this vehicle in trade after performing some service work on it for our client. Last year we installed a new convertible top/headliner, new wheels and tires, new bumpers, new turn signals, new chrome trim on the exterior, new carburetor, and a new battery. The interior is in great shape and the car is a blast to drive! It is a very nice driver's car, but not a show-winner. The paint, the interior, the trim, and the glass are all in great shape. Notable areas of concern are rust behind the rear seats and cracks in the dashboard. Aside from that, this makes a fun weekend cruiser!”

Looks like the windows are not working cleanly, drivers side not going down and when fully closed they don’t seal properly by bowing out.
