Among the last Porsche 911s to feature classic long hood body styling, this Porsche 911T Targa was built for the second half of the 1973 model year and carries a Bosch CIS fuel-injected 2.4L flat-six engine. It has been cared for by only two owners since the 1980s while undergoing extensive maintenance, restoration, and functional upgrades. Supported by nearly four decades worth of records, this Targa is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Colorado.

This 911 is finished in a metallic blue-green paint color and rides on 15” Fuchs wheels dressed in Pirelli P6 tires, with an accompanying 15”x7” spare. It features a distinctive silver Targa band and removable black roof panel, U.S. market rear bumperettes, aluminum rocker panel moldings, and an aluminum engine grille. Aftermarket modifications include an upgraded ‘S’ bumper without bumperettes, Vitaloni side mirrors, Hella H4 headlights, and relayed PIAA fog/driving lights. The seller notes the car was previously repainted and had metal floor sections replaced during a restoration in the 1990s. Some imperfections are noted in the finish and the Targa top is said to have been rebuilt by well-known specialist Dave Brown.

Inside, the cabin is finished in black leather with grey seat centers and carpeting. Restoration included the installation of new carpeting, upgraded later model “tombstone”-style seats, later model sun visors, a smaller Dino Sport steering wheel, upgraded fiberglass door pockets, an aftermarket dash cover, and a 90s Alpine cassette unit with a multi-disc changer along with speakers. The seller notes that the rear window defroster and clock do not work and the speedometer was previously rebuilt and reset at 95k miles. The odometer currently reads about 42k miles and the total mileage is estimated at approximately 137k.

This 911T is powered by an air-cooled Bosch CIS fuel-injected 2.4L flat-six, which delivers up to 140 HP to the rear wheels through a 915 5-speed manual transmission. Restoration and upgrading began in the 1980s and continued under the current owner's care. Some noteworthy items included resealing of the engine, a Carrera chain tensioner upgrade, rebuilds of the transmission and Bosch fuel injection system, a new oil tank and hoses, upgraded suspension bushings, a thicker sway bar, Turbo tie rods, adjustable Koni shocks, stainless steel brake lines, new axles, a short-throw shifter, airbox pop-off valve, a larger Turbo sump plate, SSI heat exchangers and a single Optima battery conversion. The original points have also been swapped out for electronic ignition. The seller notes a pre-purchase inspection was recently performed by a classic European car specialist and is available to any interested bidders.

This sale will include a clean title, spare tire, owner’s manuals, and some documentation.

@greggearhead I have a '69 T and I can attest to how easy they are to do your own work. Minor changes can really make a difference. You don't even have to permanently modify. Swap out for some nice sport seats, or update the marker lights or headlights, etc. There are so many vendors with cool parts, you can rally take these cars in 100 directions according to personal taste. I'm not kidding when I say it can be a ton of fun.

It looks from the videos to be a solid car and nice driver. Seems to have good bones. Checks a lot of boxes.

@r3drov3r Thanks. It is a prefect one for that. You can just drive it and select to change anything or not. It's that good.

This looks like it would be a lot of fun to work on and tweak to the owners own taste. I keep looking at the pictures and thinking about how I'd do this or that. Timing just isn't right for me, but I'm here to see how this plays out. Good luck to seller and to bidders.

@cadler It looks great, as you can imagine!

Driving this one made me have pangs for my old 73.5T coupe that I sold recently. If I didn't have a 72 as well, I never would have sold it!! These are such fun, cool cars that make all the right noises and smells, and perform wonderfully (especially with the care and upgrades this one has received)!

  • cadler 1 year, 4 monthsago

@greggearhead awesome thnx. Looks similar to petrol blue. Can imagine how gorge this looks!

  • greggearhead (seller) 1 year, 4 monthsago

@cadler It is an Audi color, the owner called Pina Gruen - closest websearch I can find for a code is the following -
    Audi Piniengruen Pearl / 4S, LZ6S / #404841 Hex Color Code

It is a very becoming color in person, especially in morning and evening light.

Color question - blue / green metallic. Do you know the color code? Is this Petrol Blue? Really beautiful.

Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.

  • greggearhead (seller) 1 year, 4 monthsago

@Ranger3 Absolutely I can - will scan it and post it later today for everyone.

As an aside - the owner of the classic Euro shop is a self-professed Italian car guy, though he and his technicians have expertise in all classic and modern Euro marques, said how much he really liked and was impressed with this one, so high praise from a non-Porsche lover!

  • Ranger3 (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

I am interested in seeng the PPI. Are you going to post the results of the inspection. Thanks in advance!
