Created at the request of legendary car importer Max Hoffman, the BMW Bavaria was a sporting version of the E3 sedan produced exclusively for the U.S. market. This 1974 BMW Bavaria has been featured in Roundel Magazine and benefits from extensive investment including new paint, interior upholstery, and an upgraded 3.5-liter Metric Mechanic Hiflo engine paired with a 4-speed Metric Mechanic transmission. The car also features Korman sway bars, upgraded shocks, Alpina wheels, Konig sport seats, and a Dino sport steering wheel. Acquired by the seller from an avid BMW enthusiast, this modified Bavaria is now being offered for auction out of New York.

This Bavaria is said to have been recently refinished in the current shade of burgundy and features a painted Alpina front spoiler and Cibie fog lights. The car rides on a set of 17” Alpina wheels dressed in new Hankook tires. The seller notes the front bumper and exterior trim have been deleted and the frame rails and rockers remain in very good condition.

The cabin has been redone in new brown and tan vinyl by McCoys Upholstery and features new tan square weave carpeting, a pair of Konig sport seats, and a three-spoke Dino sport steering wheel wrapped in brown leather. Other details include wood dashboard trim, chrome door handles and window rollers, and a wooden shift knob with the BMW emblem. An air conditioning system has also been installed although it is currently inoperable.

This Bavaria has been equipped with a 3.5-liter Metric Mechanic Hiflow engine claimed to produce up to 255 HP. The engine features 32/36 Weber carburetors with new filters as well as a new exhaust system with late M30 manifolds. Power is sent to the rear wheels by way of a Metric Mechanic 4-speed manual transmission with a new clutch master and slave cylinder. The suspension has been upgraded with Billy Sport front struts, KYB rear shocks, Korman sway bars, and front camber plates. The seller notes the upgraded engine has covered approximately 100k miles and a valve adjustment was recently completed along with the installation of a new valve cover gasket.

This sale will include some documentation and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “I bought the car from a friend; it was featured in Roundel Magazine and I have a copy of the magazine. The engine is everything. I’ve invested a lot of time and money into this car including new paint, a trim delete, Cibie fog lights, new carpets and mats, and an interior done by McCoys Upholstery. The car is fast and drives excellently. It can use a little more TLC like every 50-year-old car but she’s beautiful.”

Does anyone know the approximate cost of getting the original a/c operational? Parts, labor etc..
Is there an alternative for an aftermarket upgrade? Thanks TB12
