From 1974 to 1976, Porsche offered a high-performance version of its new G-Series Carrera model featuring the mechanically fuel-injected (MFI) 2.7-liter engine of the legendary 1973 Carrera RS Touring. These cars were never offered in the United States due to emissions restrictions and remain some of the most sought-after 911s of the era. This 1974 example is one of 1,011 Carrera MFI Coupes produced for the model year and was originally delivered to Japan where it remained for the next 40 years. It comes finished in Silver Metallic over a Midnight leatherette interior and features Sport Seats with tweed cloth inserts as well as Koni shock absorbers, “S” brakes, air conditioning, and front fog lights as factory equipment. The car was imported to the U.S. in 2015 and underwent a major service of its original 2.7-liter engine in 2021. Supported by a number’s matching Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this rare and highly collectible 911 Carrera 2.7 MFI is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Arizona.
This 911 is finished in Silver Metallic (Z2) and features black Carrera script stripes on each side as well as optional front fog lights, H4 headlights with washers, a front chin spoiler, dual chrome mirrors, European-market bumpers, and a Carrera Whale Tail rear spoiler. There was no sunroof equipped from the factory. The car rides on staggered-width 16” Fuchs forged alloy wheels dressed in Pirelli Cinturato P7 tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin is appointed with dark blue Midnight leatherette (12) upholstery contrasted by tweed cloth seat centers. It comes equipped with Sport Seats, a black roofliner, air conditioning, tinted glass, intermittent wipers, a windscreen washer system, a manual antenna, power windows, a Blaupunkt AM/FM cassette stereo, and cabin noise suppression. In contrast to the Carrera 2.7 CIS model sold in North America, the European-spec Carrera 2.7 MFI features a tachometer with a 7,300 RPM redline, a 5-digit odometer, and a speedometer topping out at 300 km/h. This Japanese-delivered example is further distinguished by a red-stripe decal overlaid on the speedometer which was applied by the Mitsuwa Motors importer to indicate speeds exceeding the national highway limit of 100 km/h.
This Carrera is equipped with the RS-spec 911/83 2.7-liter flat-six engine featuring Bosch mechanical fuel injection and an output of up to 210 HP. The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed manual transaxle. An invoice from 2021 shows over $28k worth of service performed including a major engine overhaul with new seals, gaskets, piston rings, bearings, and head studs as well as replacement of the transmission oil, brake fluid, and rear Koni shock absorbers. Images of the drivetrain case stampings are provided in the gallery. The seller adds that the engine was overhauled, balanced, and blueprinted by Patrick Motorsports.
This sale will include a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, some service documentation, owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, and air pump, and a clean title.

@nosubstitute4porsche It has been said the car was completed stripped and repainted. What do you need meter reading for? Just curious. Maybe you didn’t see the thread below.

I remember this one well. We bought it from the original owner in Japan in May of 2015. It had never been touched at that point and was totally original including the old original faded paint.
Never had another that had so many options but while it had just about everything you could think of, it had no sun roof so center of gravity was nice and low and the car handled fantastically. My Son and I ran it on the Steve McQueen rally and won some awards at the show. Very cool to see it come back again almost ten years later.
I have zero vested interest in this one but don't see any indication of body work in photo 89. I have had many of these and all of the MFI's and RS 2.7 had the same spot welds and lumpy appearance on both sides.
When we had the car, we striped it to bare metal for a full repaint and there was no sign of any accident damage or repairs and no rust.

@delanodp As stated previously, we did not perform any paint work. We only performed light detailing

There are several signs of bodywork on the car. For example Pic #89. Do you have paint meter info? History of paint / bodywork?
The Dyno graphic that I just uploaded was during initial run-in, and was primarily for pump adjustment & tune. Very conservative at 5500 rpm, but the trend is correct and strong. We use 13.5% correct for drivetrain loss
This car will make the proper 210 - 215 HP
We can run this prior to final delivery for the winning bidder and provide a more current document. I like to see more miles on fresh builds before full power pulls.

One very similar just sold at Monterrey for $434,000.00. Same year, lower milage but was not as nice in my opinion.
This is a rare car and will only go up in value.

@911reasons Yes, the engine was in need of a very "detailed" blueprint / refresh, and Patrick Motorsports performed all needed services - this can be seen in the photos documentation
The engine is proper now, and runs fantastic. It made the correct 210 + HP on our Dyno when tuned after our services

Based on the Vin # this seems to be the same car that was sold on BAT on November 5th 2021. It showed an engine overhaul invoice on July 2021 from Driver Source Fine Motor Cars of Texas.

Hello, Please pardon me for my ignorance or ability to read between the lines regarding the whale tail, but is this tail a stock issue from the factory? Y/N? If yes, coming at the end of the model year 1974, would it be considered even more rare than the ducktails or standard lid MFI 2.7 Carreras?

As a 1974 Euro car it would either have a stock deck lid, if it were delivered new in Germany,
or a ducktail, France, Italy etc. and not what looks like a 1975 930/Carrera tail.

Whale tail curiosity and this car being from 74'... Per the Snodgrass Carrera 2.7 bible, "Carreras fitted with a ducktail in 74' could not be ordered in a metallic color. However, this did not stop dealers outside of Germany from ordering a ducktail and having it painted locally." See page 124. Furthermore, page 126 shows a metallic car with a whale tail. Also of note is paragraph 2 page 146 stating that the last cars produced during 74' may have received whale tails. This would seem to correspond with the the vin # being toward the end of 74's production. GLWA

In photo 92 the coil is blue and the fan strap decal is missing. This is to say that it doesn't match the other engine photos. Please explain

The paint work in the trunk looks odd, especially around the VIN stamps. Any explanation or more details?
Can you post a better photo of the transmission number. It appears that it is mostly ground off. Looking for one with it intact. Is it a respray or claimed origional paint? If origional please post paint meter readings.

Hi. Do you have a picture of the COA. Also it was my understanding that the 1974 Carrera had Duck tail not a whale tail. In 1975 Porsche also made a limited production of the carrera that had the whale tail. Theses Carreras were also produced in the USA but did not come fitted with the MFI.
