Now available for auction is this 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera RS tribute finished in Silver Metallic over a black interior. Originally sold from Wood Motors, Inc. of Detroit, Michigan, this 1974 911 Sunroof Coupe was eventually acquired by its previous owner who had the engine fully rebuilt to 2.7 RS specifications including a Bosch mechanical fuel injection system, SSI heat exchangers, and Carrera chain tensioners.  It was then acquired by the current owner about two years ago who carried out a full cosmetic restoration including a glass-out repaint, installation of RS-style body parts, and a completely redone RS-style interior.  Weighing in at approximately 2,200 lbs. while generating as much as 190 HP, this tribute outperforms its factory Carrera RS counterpart and offers an impressive power-to-weight ratio even by today’s standards.  This nicely executed RS tribute is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Idaho with just over 59k miles showing on the odometer.

In 2019, this 911 was treated to a full glass-out repaint in its original color of Silver Metallic (L936) along with the installation of new rubber seals, a new windshield, and powder coating of the trim. A hood conversion from Patrick Motorsports was also fitted along with 911SC quarter panels, TRE RS-style bumpers, blue Carrera side graphics, and a ducktail rear spoiler. The seller notes several small rock chips on the front end as well as another chip next to the passenger-side headlight.  Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery.  This tribute rides on a set of staggered 15” Fuchs alloys with blue painted centers and Toyo Proxes R888R tires showing date codes from 2018.

Inside, the cabin has been completely redone with new RS-style door panels, lightweight black carpeting, and black leather bucket seats with blue tartan inserts. Noteworthy features include power windows, air-conditioning, and cruise control. The rear seats have been removed and a leather-wrapped MOMO Prototipo Heritage steering wheel has been installed which sits ahead of black VDO instrumentation including a central 8k-RPM tachometer, a 160-MPH speedometer, and gauges for oil level, pressure and temperature, fuel level, and an analog clock. All gauges and accessories are said to be functioning properly.

The original 2.7L flat-six engine is said to have been rebuilt to European 2.7 RS specifications with Bosch mechanical fuel injection. Upgraded Carrera chain tensioners and SSI heat exchangers were also installed during the time of the engine build. A 915 5-speed manual gearbox sends power to the rear wheels. An inspection was carried out in 2020 at 57,537 miles along with an engine and gearbox fluid service as well as the replacement of a fuel hose and installation of a new battery. Other recent work includes a shifter rebuild and the installation of a Patrick Motorsports sport muffler. A collection of records is provided for reference in the photo gallery along with images of the undercarriage.

This sale will include a collection of records, the original window sticker, warranty booklet, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean title. A faithful representation of the iconic Carrera RS in both styling and performance, this 1974 911 tribute car is a perfect choice for any passionate air-cooled driving enthusiast.

@gshibayama  Your car is just nuts!  So impressive. I was hesitant to use your name as a previous owner without your permission.  The petrolicious article is such a great read.  Your ownership and extensive work on this special Porsche are invaluable to the next lucky owner.  I appreciate your comments and connecting the historical dots for this auction. Well done.

I am previous owner who built this car. You should bid with confidence on this car. There was no rust / bond on the body. This is not RS clone you see around the town as it carries same spec as MFI 2.7L 911/83 motor. Seller claims 190hp -- that on wheels. On brake/crank, it should do 230-240hp on 2200LB body. You can get legendary Carrera RS performance / characteristics at the fraction of the price. Lastly, this car has been properly shaken down. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lqw9Ra5P_Dw

I've submitted three short videos to PCar of this RS Tribute in motion.   The owner of the Sun Valley Auto Club did the driving.  He knows his Porsche's and owns quite a few of his own.  On the drive out to the film location, he immediately knew he was driving something special.  It was fun to see his facial expression change from "I'm going for a drive" ho-hum, to what the heck am I driving to "I'm going for a drive!"   The comment that stays with me the most is "this is the most sorted air-cooled of this generation that I've ever driven."  It was a blast just being in the passenger seat.   The next owner is going to be pumped with their ownership, this RS Tribute looks the part but more importantly, drives the part.   Best of luck to all in the next 24 hours left in the auction.   The videos will be posted soon. Cheers.

You don’t often see an RS tribute done with Kugelfischer Mechanical Injection - bravo!
