This 1974 Porsche 911 Coupe underwent custom restoration under prior ownership including widened RS/IROC-style bodywork, a new interior, and an upgraded 2.7-liter engine. Said to have been driven less than 200 miles since, this 911 was previously listed on PCARMARKET and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.

This 911 has been fitted with wide fiberglass fender flares along with an IROC-style front bumper, RS-style ducktail rear spoiler, and modern projector headlights. The car is said to have been recently refinished in the current shade of White and rides on a set of upgraded 17” Fuchs wheels dressed in Toyo Proxes tires. Additional images are provided in the gallery.

The grey interior has been redone and customized with a pair of two-tone Porsche 997 power seats and matching RS-style door panels. The rear seats have been replaced with storage compartments and custom white instrument dials have been installed along with a three-spoke MOMO steering wheel, Kenwood radio, drilled aluminum pedal covers, and a billet shift knob. The seller reports all gauges and accessories to be fully functional.

Power comes from an air-cooled 2.7-liter flat-six engine that is said to have been custom-built to RS specifications under prior ownership. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 5-speed 915 manual gearbox with a new clutch and short shift kit. Other upgrades include PMO carburetors, Elephant Racing oil lines, a front-mounted oil cooler, and red-painted Porsche Boxster brakes with new floating rotors.

This sale will include a clean title.

Thanks. Spoke with the guy at 1VT shop that did the work before bidding. Talking to him made me stretch my budget a little

  • kfitzpat9 (registered bidder) 1 yearago

Yeah, I went way above my original number as my son and I were going to drop the motor and go through it and was therefore willing to pay a premium for that experience, but had to stop myself.

It's never good to be a person that hates to lose when on auction sites, gambling in Vegas, etc.

Congrats to the seller (very nice guy) and to the new owner!

@AirCooledEddie i’m not sure who you are but I’ve had two local people come Monday and Tuesday to look at the car. I would’ve found time for you if you notified me thank you for your concern.

@Chipper Agree 100%! That is how I'm approaching it.

  • Vlocci (registered bidder) 1 yearago

@kfitzpat9 I looked the car over at VT auto as well and found Cain (I think that was his name) quite knowledgeable about the car's history. I didn't drive it nor did I pay for a compression test but I'm glad to hear you did. Bodywork was OK, interior is "interesting" and I agree it was filthy. There are a lot of oddball items needing fixing as flagged by many in these comments.

Good on you for paying for a compression test.

90psi is abysmally low for a 2.7 in stock form, let alone a "RS spec" one. 140psi compression is an "ok" motor and 160 psi + is typical of a fresh rebuild. While consistent across all cylinders, 90psi is evidence of something being up in my opinion. I guess you could get 90psi running some insane hot cam with crazy overlap but that gets us back to this not being anything "RS"

I'm 50/50 on bidding, but am approaching this as buying a roller needing some work and not much more.

I do have a 3.6 and G50 trans on the shelf ready to go so I'm in a different spot than many!

Curious to see how this plays out.

  • Chipper (registered bidder) 1 yearago

This would he a great project to tear apart and start over.

  • nobrakes (registered bidder) 1 yearago

@kfitzpat9 maybe their gauge is stuck on 90psi ;-p

  • kfitzpat9 (registered bidder) 1 yearago

I went and checked out the car yesterday and was able to drive it. It handled well, did backfire a couple times while driving and maybe from sitting? The 1st-2nd, and then 2nd-3rd synchros may need some attention in the near future but maybe because it wasn't warm and it's been a while since I drove a 915 tranny, so maybe normal, or bushings?
The shop where it is at (1VT Auto-Sean) did do a compression test while the car was warm and here are the results:

    CYL 1-90 PSI
    CYL 2-90 PSI
    CYL 3-90 PSI
    CYL 4-90 PSI
    CYL 5-90 PSI
    CYL 6-90 PSI

The results are consistent but seem rather low to me on a freshly built motor. Also, there was an 8-10" diameter oil puddle under the case but it could have been from a different car? The car was dirty, so I couldn't inspect the paint that closely. Anyway, I like the looks of the car so may still be bidding, but will be taking the above factors into consideration.

The seller has not addressed several issues

I requested undercarriage photos three times to no avail and others have also made requests …
Car did not meet reserve last time it was listed and the seller went silent during that auction
I’m surprised that PCar allowed him to list it again

  • tdb1997 (registered bidder) 1 yearago

@PCARMARKET Other users here have attempted to see this vehicle prior to bidding to gain some confidence to no avail despite multiple attempts… I was just trying to suggest an alternative way prospective bidders might be able to gain some reassurance here. I think this reply adds further concern given the context of this auction.

  • PCARMARKET 1 yearago

@tdb1997 all inspections should be done prior to bidding. The reason for this is purely so that both buyer and seller know that this car is 100% sold after close of auction. Feel free to message our help desk if you need a rep to contact you.

  • AirCooledEddie (registered bidder) 1 yearago

Hi Seller! I sent you an email about coming to check out the car tomorrow. Please let me know if you might be available. Thank you!

  • Speedster57 (seller) 1 yearago

@AirCooledEddie I’m going today with your cars in the parking lot with a for sale sign it and I will take a picture of the underneath for you

  • Speedster57 (seller) 1 yearago

@AirCooledEddie I fix the gaps on the hood. The fenders are fiberglass. The engine was built two RS specs and completely redone. Unfortunately, the person my mechanic at the time went to Florida without telling me and he has a lot of that paperwork which I’m sure he threw away the engine runs great, no rush no oil leaks I have 145 miles I believe on the entry.

  • AirCooledEddie (registered bidder) 1 yearago

I believe the front fenders are all fiberglass not metal with fiberglass flares. I saw the car at a repair shop.
The gaps and allighnment of body parts need work.

I don’t believe the engine is a RS Engine. That would be determined by the serial number not by changing parts. Still waiting to hear from the seller to go check it out in person….. so far no response

Also, THIRD REQUEST FOR UNDERCARRIAGE PHOTOS

  • drose (registered bidder) 1 yearago

Hi, do you have a driving video available?

  • Speedster57 (seller) 1 yearago

@bibaboi thanks for the call back I do have title for the car the car has 140 miles on the brand new RS engine. It runs great the car has no rust and it leaks no oil whatsoever I live by myself so it’s hard for me to get someone to video my car, but I’m working on it

  • bibaboi (registered bidder) 1 yearago

    Have few questions for seller,
    - Do you have title in hand?
    - Is the car in your possession? Drivable or need work?
    - Any reason why you can’t you provide underside pictures of car and driving videos?
    Thanks

  • robbylou (registered bidder) 1 yearago

Is the hood or fender fiberglass? The hood/fender gap in picture #30 seems to be very wide (maybe close to an inch?). Thanks

  • Speedster57 (seller) 1 yearago

@AirCooledEddie Oh, I have one photo of the engine when it was in a crate that I think you saw the person that had it rebuilt, and I was inside move to Florida without telling me and took most of the paperwork

  • KLaus72 (registered bidder) 1 yearago

Too many red flags here. This car was listed five month ago by the seller with almost the same unanswered questions...https://www.pcarmarket.com/auction/1974-porsche-911-rs-outlaw/

  • AirCooledEddie (registered bidder) 1 yearago

Still no photos of the underside of the car
    SECOND REQUEST

Also, I understand that the engine builder went out of business but do you have any build sheets, receipts, or any information other than the description stating it is an upgraded 2.7, What was upgraded, when was it done and by whom, No response from the seller???

I’m in San Diego, Can I come see it tomorrow?
I did the contact the seller but again. NO RESPONSE

Was it ever determined why the smugglers box lid was left on the wrong side of the front strut tower brace? Definitely a few funky little things pop up looking at these photos that make you scratch your head…

  • robbylou (registered bidder) 1 yearago

@Strongman5 the engine does not have an A/C compressor on it (no A/C)

  • AirCooledEddie (registered bidder) 1 yearago

Can you add some more detailed photos
    Thanks, Ed

  • Strongman5 1 yearago

  • robbylou (registered bidder) 1 yearago
