We are pleased to offer this 1974 Porsche 911S Targa finished in Grand Prix White over a black interior.  Representing the first of the G-Series Porsche 911s, this 1974 Targa came factory equipped with air conditioning, stabilizer bars, upgraded Bilstein shocks, and a 5-speed manual gearbox paired with a fuel-injected 2.7L flat-six engine.  It was acquired by the current owner, an avid PCA member, back in 2014 and has since undergone a major mechanical overhaul including new brakes, installation of an additional oil cooler, new fuel tank, and a complete rebuild of the engine completed in 2019.  The car also features Carrera front and rear spoilers, Turbo rear fender flares, updated 964-generation power seats, and a Retro Sound Bluetooth head unit. This 911S is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Maryland accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.

This 911S was refinished in the current shade of Grand Prix White at some point during prior ownership. Carrera front and rear spoilers were installed along with wide Turbo rear fender flares, and all of the original chrome trim has been refinished in black.  The original color of the car was Sahara Beige according to the Certificate of Authenticity.  The seller notes several minor imperfections throughout the exterior including a few touched-up chips on the front bumper and one scratch on the right rear quarter panel behind the wheel.  The finish has been treated with a layer of Opti Coat ceramic coating; detailed images are provided in the gallery.  The 15” Fuchs wheels feature colored Porsche crested center caps and come dressed in a mixed set of Nitto NT450 Extreme Performance in front and Kumho Ecsta AST tires in the rear.  The front tires are dated from 2017 while the rears are dated from 2020.

Inside, this Targa’s interior has been converted to black from its original Cinnamon leatherette upholstery.  Updated 964-generation power-operated seats have been installed along with later-model inner door panels sourced from a 1980s Carrera.  Upgraded Pioneer speakers have been installed in the doors and are paired with a Retro Sound Bluetooth head unit.  The steering wheel has been completely restored with new leather, and a cover pad has been placed over the dashboard.  The gauges were also restored and fitted with new glass lenses apart from the clock.  The seller notes that the rear seatbacks will not stay locked in the up position and confirms all instrumentation and accessories to be working properly except for the oil level gauge. The 5-digit odometer currently reads just under 7k miles, and the true mileage is reported to be nearly 107k miles.

The air-cooled 2.7L fuel-injected flat-six engine in this 911S was fully rebuilt by Porsche Master Mechanic Heinz Peters between 2018 and 2019.  During this time, the ports were matched and the engine’s compression ratio was increased for an estimated output of approximately 195 HP.  The rear wheels are driven through a factory 5-speed manual transmission.  Under the current owner’s care, new 911S front brake calipers were installed along with new rotors at all four corners, an additional oil cooler with metal lines, a new fuel tank, and a new fuel pump.  The owner has carried out regular oil changes using Valvoline VR1 racing motor oil and genuine Porsche Classic filters. A collection of service records are provided in the gallery along with images of the undercarriage and photos from the engine rebuild.

This sale will include service records, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean title. Well maintained and tastefully modified, this classic 911S Targa awaits its next caretaker.

@Porsche911channel - thanks I figured as much but wanted to confirm! Thanks for the quick response.

@TyStav Thanks for your question. No dents or damage of any kind on the rear deck lid. It is very shiny and could be a bit of sun glare in that specific picture.

Could you let me know if there is any dents or damage to the rear deck lid (along the rear lip). Picture 46 makes it look like there are some dents or damage. Could you let me know? Thanks.

@live2drive_porsche Thanks for checking out my IG feed! :) This is definitely the most sorted car in my collection, having had everything freshly done. It just needs to be driven and enjoyed!

    Hi Pcar community,

Just wanted to put a quick word out. I have been an avid Porsche fan since a very a young age and in the past 10 years have been fortunate enough to own this beautiful Targa among other great Porsches. I love the PCA community and enjoy learning and sharing knowledge about these beautiful machines on my Instegram handle Porsche911Channel. There, you can find some great stories and pictures of Pcars including this Targa.

I truly believe that whoever gets this car will be very happy with it considering all the love and care that was put into it. It has certainly brought me and my family lots of joy!

@USimport, thank you for your questions! Below are the answers.

    1. Could you please tell me if the rear turbo guards are steel? Yes
    2. Does the top leak water? Does it whistle whilst on and driving? The car has always been driven on sunny days but I can confirm that I have been caught in a rain a couple of times on the East Cost and was happy to not have water in the car, so seal was good with No leaks that I recall. As to wind noise, the top does not whistle but I would not call the cockpit quiet when it’s on. Guessing pretty normal for a Targa. Again, I rarely drive the car with the top on. It’s really designed to be driven and enjoyed with the top off IMO!
    3. Is there any visible rust anywhere on the vehicle?? No, we looked over the car carefully when we did the rebuild. It’s a solid car.
    4. I’m guessing you are using spacers for the rear wheels, what size are they? Yes, 2 inch spacers are installed, the wheels fit nicely in the fender.
    5. Are the front and rear spoilers genuine Porsche parts? The front spoiler is rubber and is attached to the original bumper, the rear spoiler has a Porsche crest on the bottom of the rubber lip. I am not an expert on these parts and they were added prior to my ownership but I would guess that they are aftermarket parts. I will have to do more research. They look excellent. I do have also have an original 74 rear grill that I am happy including in with the car for anyone that does not like a spoiler. That said, as it sits, the car looks awesome and has a ton of presence with them on.
