Up for auction is this 1974 Porsche 914 finished in Sunflower (Summer) Yellow over a black leatherette interior.  Offering a visceral driving experience with its nimble handling and larger 2.0L engine from the factory, the 914 is ideal for the prospective Porsche enthusiast.  Part of a collection based out of North Carolina, this example benefits from over $40K in recent work including a full glass-out refinish, interior refurbishment and complete engine rebuild.  With only approximately 600-miles driven since, this 914 is now being offered with proper documentation by its seller out of Charlotte, NC.

The Sunflower (Summer) Yellow finish on this 914 is said to be in excellent condition along with all chrome and brightwork (detailed images are available in the photo gallery).  Within the last year, this roadster underwent a professional glass-out respray to the original factory specification at Automotive International of Charlotte, NC. This 914 rides on Factory alloy Fuchs wheels wrapped in Dunlop tires with 2017 date stamps.

Having recently been refurbished, the black leatherette interior on this 914 features completely new carpeting, new insulation and recovered center console and dash facia.  The seller notes that the original seats and door panels are present and show well, detailed images within the image gallery.  This interior is set to factory specifications aside from a dealer installed A/C system that has recently been fully serviced and remains operational.

This 914 features a numbers-matching naturally-aspirated mid-mounted 2.0 L 4-cylinder fuel-injected engine.  Power is sent to the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual transmission.  This example boasts a complete engine rebuild which was carried out just 600-miles ago (receipts are included in the sale).  Additionally, the original fuel pump was rebuilt, fuel lines were re-installed, and a new fuel filter was added.  With many records of work performed dating back to 1986 in addition to work performed under most recent ownership, this 914 is ready to be enjoyed by its next owner.

The sale will include many service records, one key, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean title.

    @gbutler Thank you!

  • gbutler (seller) 3 yearsago

    Yes, the wheels are original and the glass appears to be as well - but I can't definitively say it is. I am at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) for a Ferrari Club track event, so I dont have access to the car to take a picture of the dash. That being said, the car is at our shop in Charlotte so I will have someone take some photos tomorrow morning of the glass and dash to try and answer @LAPHIL's questions.

    Sorry about the “?” after my first sentence. Should have been a “!”

  • LAPHIL (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

    Very lovely car? @gbutler, Is all the glass original? And, are the Fuchs wheels original to the car - date stamp on the wheels? Lastly, can you provide clear photos of the dash pad? There appears to be some wrinkling present. Thanks!

    I had the opportunity to see and drive this 914 today. It is every bit as good as it shows in the photos and receipts. The paint work was done to a very high standard, and the interior refresh as well. The car ran great, and all systems and functions checked out. The dealer has an excellent rep in the area, and is a true euro enthusiast. This car is about as good as it gets in terms of a well sorted example that can be driven and enjoyed. Bid with confidence.

    @gbutler Thank you for your reply to my laundry list of questions. I found a couple of the answers by re-reading the descriptions, receipts and studying the pictures more carefully. I just had not seen anything or missed any repairs to the exhaust and suspension. I really appreciate your help and this is certainly a fine car, like I said, it looks better than mine did brand new in some ways, lol. Good Luck with your sale! MCShack

    @fastricky Yes, it's a balancing act with adjusting the idle just right to account for the AC being on versus idling to high with it off.

  • fastricky (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

    @gbutler Thanks for the quick reply, I've had to increase the idle on my 912E w/ A/C so it doesn't idle too low when the A/C is kicked on FYI

  • gbutler (seller) 3 yearsago

    @fastricky Concerning the AC - with it running it idles awfully low at stoplights if the gas pedal is lifted abruptly. However, it does not stall. The AC actually blows pretty cold.

    As for overheating, the car does not overheat. It did have vapor lock issues but those were solved when the fuel pump was replaced and subsequently relocated away from the heat of the exhaust.

  • fastricky (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

    What a great example, completely drool worthy. Sadly I'm not allowed any more cars at the moment so I can't bid otherwise I'd be into this to the hilt. I imagine with the small cabin the A/C works well to cool? Does it overheat the motor? GLWTA!

    @MCShack I will try and address all your questions - if I miss something don't hesitate to ask again! I have also submitted some more photos to BAT and will make a video tomorrow.

    Anyway, here goes --- the heat works, AC works and the antenna is manual. There is no rust on the longitudinals, rockers, and the hell hole. In fact, the hell hole and battery tray are original, we simply cleaned and painted them. The car has no oil leaks. The carpet in the interior is glued down since we added insulation. The left headlight "winks" when closing - the wipers work as do all the lights. All the instrument lights work and they were changed to LED.
    Reverse works great, and we relocated the fuel pumps so they are away from the heat of the exhaust. The suspension and brakes were all gone thru and are in good working order - I will have to check the receipts to see exactly what was done.
    The exterior paint was ceramic coated and the wheels were powder coated.
    As I mentioned, I will do a video tomorrow and also have submitted photos to BAT - so look for those as well.

    @gbutler (seller)
    Beautiful car, shows extremely well, almost exactly same as one I owned in college many years ago except I think this car might show better than mine did new. Nice pictures and drive video. Can you add some close up pics of all the door tag and trunk tags with VIN, paint codes, etc? Would like to see drive video with shifting into and out of reverse gear, also with head lamps raised and lowered a couple of times, as well as raise and lower auto antennae if so equipped. Pics under carpet in passenger compartment, behind seats, under dash, underside of center console cushion, and inside of glove box. If possible show all lights working, radio (don't care about cassette player, lol), heater, A/C blower working with volume on to hear. I did not see any mention of suspension system, shocks, struts, etc as to whether any of them have been serviced, replaced, have issues or not, etc. No pics or mention of rust or condition of body under side rocker panels, was this all sanded and repainted, etc. This is one area of high concern for rust on 914s as I am sure you know.
    No pics or mention of exhaust system condition, new muffler, pipes, etc. Last but not least, pictures and video of underside of body showing suspension and exhaust areas, underside of engine, front and rear trunks, and passenger compartment. Most importantly show pics and explain details about condition of "Hell Hole" on underside of car body, and any other areas with rust starting to show, anything else that does not work properly or needs attention, but more pictures showing as much of the underside of the car as possible would be great.
    I'm sorry for all the questions but I am very interested in the car and loved every minute of the nearly 20 years that I had mine, only regret is selling it. I didn't even mind when it was in the shop because I new I would be driving away a car that running perfect every time. Thank you, and GLWA!
