We are pleased to offer this 1974 Porsche 914 2.0 finished in Paint to Sample Ice Green Metallic over a Beige/Tan leatherette interior.  Equipped with a fuel-injected 2.0L flat-four engine, 5-speed manual gearbox, and optional Appearance Group, this 914 was ordered through T.N.M. Lathrop, Inc. of Niantic, Connecticut, and delivered to its first owner Dr. Alex Rodriguez of Castro Valley, California.  The car remained under Dr. Rodriguez’s care up until 1983 when it was sold to a Joseph Brackman of New Palestine, Indiana who continued to drive the car very sparingly over the next thirty years.  It was eventually acquired by longtime enthusiast Robert Nellums in 2011 who enjoyed the car before a comprehensive restoration was undertaken in 2013 including new paint, upholstery, and complete overhauls of the brakes and suspension.  Recently serviced and inspected by the specialists at CarparcUSA, these incredibly rare Ice Green Metallic 914 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California showing approximately 74k original miles on the odometer.

This 914 was ordered in Ice Green Metallic, a distinctive 1970s Porsche color normally reserved for the 911 model, which was only available on the 914 via the Paint to Sample option.  Equipment includes a chrome driver-side mirror, vinyl-covered sail panels, and black bumpers with U.S. market bumperettes, chrome horn grilles, and front fog lights.  The car was completely refinished in its original color during the restoration in 2013 and the seller describes the paint to be in fantastic overall condition along with the lenses, glass, and chrome trim.  Additional images are provided in the gallery.  The OEM 15” light alloy wheels come dressed in a set of Vredestein Sprint Classic tires dated from 2017, and the original spare remains in the trunk.

The cabin has been completely restored to its original appearance with proper Beige/Tan leatherette upholstery, carpeting, and a black dashboard.  The optional Appearance Group equips a leather-covered steering wheel as well as a special center console with a clock and additional gauges for temperature and battery voltage.  Recent refurbishment includes the replacement of the oil pressure sender, fuse box cover, flasher relay, horn button, and heater cowl tube as well as installation of new OEM speakers and horns.

The air-cooled 2.0L flat-four engine is equipped with Bosch fuel injection and drives the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual gearbox.  The brakes and suspension were rebuilt while the engine was removed and resealed during the restoration.  A major service was carried out in 2018 by 914 Werke of Seattle, Washington, and the most recent service by CarparcUSA included diagnosis and repair of intermittent ignition issues, an oil change, brake fluid flush, re-torqued bolts, and general inspection of rubber pieces, brake lines, fuel lines, etc. A collection of records and documentation is provided in the gallery.

This sale will include a binder of historical records and invoices, the original owner's manuals, and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. With its desirable 2.0L engine and exceptionally rare Paint to Sample color, this well-documented and thoroughly restored 914 would make a fine addition to any collection or museum.

Only two days left on this beautiful 914! It's hard to take it anywhere and not get enthusiastic questions about the color, truly one of a kind, the original owner knew what he was doing when he ordered this combination back in 74' :)
Please don't hesitate to ask anything about the car, I'm happy to help!

@RedRoof There is no documentation of a color change being performed...and we have ALOT of documentation on this car. Those pictures were shot on film and I believe the color saturation is probably off.

The car appears to be silver in the old pictures. Do you know the story behind the color change?

@mineralfarmer in addition to the missing engine compartment insulation, the front trunk rubber drain tube is missing with plugs in their place . A very nice restore indeed.

@MCShack Thank you for the comment. I can confirm the original Cibie lenses are currently on the car. I just took a couple more photos of the lenses to help show the great condition they are in. They should be added soon in addition to the cold start video I filmed today.

@mineralfarmer In 1974 the $300 Appearance Group included center console with clock, oil temp gauge and voltage meter, leatherette steering wheel cover, leather boot cover for shift lever, fog lights in front bumper, and dual tone horn. The center armrest pad only was just $25 and a heated rear window was $50. Front and rear stabilizer (sway) bars were $145 option for the pair as were a pair of front and rear chrome bumpers, and Bilstein shocks added another $150. Forged Alloy Fuchs (5.5”) were $380 for set of 4, and Pressure Cast Aluminum Mahle wheels were $325 per set. A tinted windshield was $70 and tinted glass all-around was $115. Intermittent Windshield Wipers were $20 and Retractable Antenna was $60. Black, Metallic or other certain paint added $270 to your overall bill, but Color to Sample was $330. The CoA makes no mention of any optional equipment which is why I say they are not worth the paper they are printed on, but some buyers gotta have them.

@ P1800 (seller) I could have easily missed it, but I see no mention of the round Cibie concave H4s that were on this car at one time and see only one picture of one headlamp. The Cibie's are no longer manufactured and if you find nice, original ones they cost hundreds of dollars. Suggest adding pictures and info/specs on the Cibie H4 headlamps, they were amazing back in the day and very rare, likely due to the cost and limited availability. I never saw the car at night, but can only imagine. Remember not all headlamps are not the same, the difference can be night and day to use an old pun that fits here. It is still the most beautiful 914 I have ever seen and I wish you the very Best of Luck With the Auction!

@mineralfarmer Original exhaust will be included in the sale. Thank you for the kind comments!

Good Morning! I wanted to make myself available for any questions regarding the car. This truly has the potential of being a one-of-one color on a 914 and we did our best capturing the metallic in the photos. We are currently working on driving/cold start videos and I will have them uploaded today or tomorrow. Happy bidding!

Certainly one of the most beautiful, unique and well-preserved 914s I have ever seen. And I have been a PCA concours judge and multiple concours winner with 914s. I find it interesting that this car was delivered with black bumpers and the appearance group would usually includes chrome bumpers. It's wonderful to have the pictures of it when it was new. It wouldn't take much to put this into concours condition, such as original shocks, original type heat tubing, and original muffler. The only thing that I see missing is the insulation pad on the engine side of the firewall. Most people get rid of those anyway because they retain moisture and cause the firewall to rust. I noticed that the right heater cable is broken right at the Box. And someone with an early 914 would kill to have that footrest that was sitting in the trunk in one of the pictures. That only goes with early 914s with a non-adjustable passenger seat. Very difficult to find one. I would sell that in a separate auction! GLWTS!

Just WOW!!! Everything is right with this one! Didn't know I wanted a 914 so bad. GLWTA
