This 1974 Porsche 914 2.0 was initially purchased from Classic Porsche and Audi, Inc. of Kalamazoo, MI, and has been in the possession of the same owner ever since. It boasts a distinctive Ravenna Green exterior over with a black leatherette interior. Under the hood, it houses a fuel-injected 2.0L flat-four engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Additionally, it features the optional Appearance Package, climate controls, an aftermarket stereo, and more. This 914 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Michigan.
This 914 features a rare Ravenna Green (L65K) exterior and comes equipped with a removable black Targa top, dual chrome side mirrors, black vinyl-covered sail panels, black bumperettes, flip-up headlights, and aftermarket dual exhaust outlets. Mounted on factory 4-bolt Fuchs wheels, the car rides on Classic Radial LL800 tires showing date codes from 2008 and 2009. The cabin showcases black leatherette trim and includes the optional interior Appearance Package which adds a suite of gauges mounted in the center console. Amenities include a four-spoke steering wheel, a center armrest, climate controls, a leather shift boot, and an aftermarket Pioneer stereo. All gauges and electronics are said to be fully functional and the mileage on the odometer is said to be accurate based on corresponding documentation.
The air-cooled 2.0-liter flat-four engine is equipped with Bosch fuel injection and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, delivering up to 91 HP and 105 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels. A new battery tray has been installed, and the seller reports the car has undergone regular servicing and inspections, with all maintenance procedures documented. These services have been performed by Foreign Care Service, a specialist classic Porsche workshop located in Kalamazoo, MI.

I'm sure this car would've gone for much, much more if the rockers were removed and the longs were verified solid. That's the money shot on these cars.

@iankarr thanks for your insight. The hood badge and exhaust tips were added by the first and current owner by personal preference. Done tastefully in my opinion and don't detract from the car's provenance.
Nice, very original car in my favorite color. I have one almost exactly like it. FYI...Ravenna Green needs to be seen in real life to be fully appreciated. It never quite reproduces faithfully in photos.
I agree with the Dr. that it wouldn't take much to bring this car up a few notches. The biggest thing, if you're into originality, is the badge on the hood. No 914s came with that. The question is...did they drill through the metal to put it on? Or is it just stuck there?
The monza exhaust is pretty awful. I had one of those as well. Why was the original one changed out?
Regarding rust...this car seems to have it in the usual spots. And you can be sure there's a bunch you can't see. That's just normal for these cars. I'd love to see a shot of the longitudinals with the rocker panels off. Or at least the right side one. The door gap looks good, so there doesn't appear to be any major weakness from the hell hole area, but visually inspecting the long is the only way to be sure you're not looking at a costly (and common) repair.
I love the fact that his is a one owner car with records dating back to the 70s.
My opinion is that this car would be well bought under 30K. Ravenna cars in this condition don't come up often. I searched for two years for mine. Good luck with the auction!

@Andrew2337 @NCKLNDM we did have the underside of the engine dry-iced before putting it up for sale. It made it look exceptionally better.

For what it’s worth to anyone bidding on this car, I’m in the process of restoring a ‘74 914 2.0 that I found in Idaho in much the same shape. The rust in the trunk is a relatively easy fix and if the intention is to keep the car long term, replace the trunk floor with new sheet metal (available from several reputable online sources). Otherwise, take a wire brush to it, clean it up, throw some rust sealant / primer / paint on it and forget about it.
The rust under the battery tray and the undercoating (and especially what it is covering up) is obviously the bigger issue here. I intend to keep my car for a very long time and the restoration is a labor of love and certainly not an exercise in logical financial management when I tally up what I’m spending for rust remediation at a reputable Porsche-only body shop in the Northeast. As the good @dr914 said in an earlier comment, with the right type of clean up, this will be a great car to own and drive.

@K.Wise thank you. I checked those areas. There's some surface oxidation but no pin holes. The car has always been stored in a climate controlled garage. I added some more photos to the gallery of the trunk and engine bay.
Can you please provide a photo of the engine bay underneath the battery. Photos taken show the structure the battery sits on but not the floor of the engine bay under the battery where the floor, firewall and side of the car meet. Thanks
@garagekept Great looking car. Does it look like there are any pin holes in the 2 rusty areas, the trunk and engine compartment? I have a number of old Porsches and my experience is that in some, even where rust does not overtly appear, when you run a light test the smallest of holes are present. Not a deal killer by any stretch and sometimes the tradeoff you get for 50 year old original cars. Thanks

This 914 has great potential but will need a lot of cleanup by the new owner. One of the first things is addressing the rusty right front engine compartment. Too bad the new selling dealer drilled so many holes in the car and injected their so called "rust proofing" chemicals. THAT stuff will be super hard to clean off, and has probably caused rust pockets in various places. The front tow hook has been, probably, "ripped off" from a curb at one time, and the fuel injection needs some proper vacuum lines. However a very good car, that after some detailed attention, one will be proud to own and show

Thank you for your interest and the questions. I will be scanning all the service records and asking PCAR to upload them to the listing. Will check for any engine out and transmission work. Will also get photos of the "hell hole" and confirm the mileage is consistent with the records. It should all be linear. The clock does not work. I do not have a window sticker but will see if the original owners have one, or maybe a copy. We will be getting professional paint meter readings in the next couple days, which will confirm the paint is original. It does have original glass as well. Stay tuned!
