The Porsche 914-6 GT was offered as the race-configured version of the 914 with steel-boxed fender flares, 911S brakes, extra chassis stiffening, an external oil cooler, and lightweight fiberglass side skirts and valences. This 1974 914 was fully restored and converted into a 914-6 GT Tribute by the Porsche specialists at Air Cooled Classics in Knoxville, TN, who performed a rotisserie restoration that was completed in November 2019. It comes finished in black over a matching interior and features a rebuilt 911SC-derived 3.0-liter along with a rebuilt 914 901 5-speed transmission and several tasteful upgrades. Reported to have been driven approximately 1k miles since restoration, this unique 914-6 GT Tribute, nicknamed “Darth 3Liter," is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Tennessee.
This 914-6 GT Tribute was refinished in black as part of the restoration and steel GT-Style fender flares were added. Details include driver and passenger side mirrors, clear headlights and taillights, re-chromed front and rear bumpers, new bumper tops, a new windshield, all-new rubber seals and gaskets, new aluminum door sills, and a dual exhaust outlet with cookie-cutter tips. It rides on polished 16” Fuchs-style wheels dressed in BF Goodrich G-Force tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The fully restored interior presents black upholstery and features Scheel-Mann-style sports seats, a new dashboard with carbon fiber inlays, a Momo Prototipo steering wheel, a new console with gauges, later-style door panels with a basketweave pattern, roll-up windows, and new black loop carpets. Additionally, new front and rear trunk carpets have been fitted. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are reported to be working properly.
This 914-6 GT Tribute is equipped with a rebuilt 3.0-liter flax-six engine from a 1978 Porsche 911 SC. Highlights from the engine rebuild include the installation of new main bearings, rod bearings, intermediate bearings, piston rings, head studs, camshaft chains, SST plug wires, Turbo valve covers, upper and lower Carrera chain tensioners, valve springs, a valve job, and a rebuilt CIS fuel system. It features an SST exhaust with heat exchangers and a sports muffler. Other details include a remote oil cooler in the right rear fender with stainless steel hoses and AN fittings, in addition to an aftermarket Vellos oil tank. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a completely rebuilt 914 901 side-shift 5-speed manual transmission with stock gear ratios. The transmission rebuild included the installation of new bearings, synchros, dog teeth, sliders, gaskets, and seals. The front suspension utilizes 911 struts with new inserts, Turbo tie rods, ball joints with Netrex A-arm bushings, a 19mm front torsion bar, and an adjustable sway bar. The rear suspension utilizes trailing arms with Netrex bushings in addition to 160-lb lowering springs with new sport shocks. Braking is handled by 911 SC calipers and rotors with DOT stainless steel brake lines at the front and 914 calipers and rotors with stainless steel brake lines at the rear, along with a 19mm master cylinder. The seller notes that besides the outside body, the car has been coated with a high-strength bed liner with kevlar fibers.

Engine:
- This engine is a completely rebuilt 1978 Porsche 911 SC 3.0 Liter Engine.
- Build as follows: Type# 930/06 180 hp/175 tq
- New bearings, mains, rods, intermediate and #8 bearing, Piston rings, head studs, cam chains, ramps & rails, rod bolts & nuts, valve springs and gaskets & seals, SST plug wires, distributor cap/rotor, plugs.
- Complete valve job with new guides & springs.
- It has turbo valve covers. "upper & lower" and Carrera chain tensioners.
- Painted engine tin, valve covers, 6 mount, cooling fan alternator assembly with shroud.
- The Case was completely checked.
- Rebuilt CIS fuel system. It starts right up every time! It's very peppy!
- SST exhaust with hooked-up heat exchangers and sport muffler with cookie cuter tips.
- A remote oil cooler is mounted in the front of the right rear fender well with all stainless hose and AN fittings. Installed is an aftermarket Vellos oil tank 914-6.
Transmission:
- The 914 901 side shifter transmission is completely rebuilt with all-new bearings, synchros, dog teeth, sliders, gaskets and seals. 'Stock gear ratios'
Body:
- The body is all steel other than the F&R valances and side skirts. This chassis was blasted to the bare metal on a rotisserie and sent to paint. "See pics"
- It is coated everywhere other than the outside body with a special professional ultra-high strength bed liner with Kevlar fibers mixed in.
- It's very tough and actually stiffens the chassis.
- Fresh bright work, Dual mirrors, Rechromed F&R bumpers with new tops, new windshield, all new rubber seals/gaskets, new alum door sills.
- New front and rear trunk carpets
Interior:
- The interior is trimmed in all black.
- The seats are period-style Scheel-Mann-type Rally/Sport ones.
- New dash installed, Carbon fiber dash face with black leather, MOMO Prototipo steering wheel and new console with gauges unit.
- Later style door panels with large basket weave.
- New Black loop carpets
Front Suspension:
- The front utilizes 911 struts w/new inserts, 19 mm front torsion bars, 22 mm thru body adjustable sway bar, turbo tie rods, ball joints with netrex A-arm bushings.
- The front brakes are 911 SC calipers with vented rotors and DOT stainless steel brake lines.
- Also installed is a 19mm master cylinder.
- 7.5 x16 Fuch style wheels with 225-50 x16 BFG G-Force tires.
Rear Suspension:
- The rear utilizes trailing arms with netrex bushings.
- Installed 5 bolt hubs with new bearings.
- The rear has 160 Lb lowering springs with new sport shocks.
- The brakes are 914 calipers with 914-6 rotors and stainless steel brake lines.
- 8 x16 Fuch style rear wheels with 245-50 x 16s and BFG G-Force tires.

BTW; Great choice on the engine.
The ‘78-‘79 SC engine is my favorite of the series. Bigger intake runners, bigger ports and valves. They breathe better. The ‘80-‘83 got the same hp by raising compression but never felt the same to me through the seat of the pants.

The pics with the plastic injection line is the engine that's in the car. A total newly rebuilt 3.0L with only a 1000 miles on it now.

To clear up the confusion on fuel injection lines! Yes, the car has the plastic lines that are in almost perfect condition. We bill so many 3 L every year that probably got some pics crossed mixed… into the drive file that was used.
There are no steel lines… and none will be provided!
If the new buyer wants to change the lenses that is up to them! If they do, I would also change the bulbs because they are colored LED type.
Yes, there is a spare tire, Hey 6 x 15 few with tire I will provide a Jack. There are no tool kits or manuals.
I do have receipts for the build for the new buyer.
@byoung4ever The hard lines are non-standard. Seller indicated that the correct stock lines are on the car, which probably isn't a bad idea since they have the proper rubber insulation.
To start - great looking car.
Do the seats have any reclining mechanism to them for a comfortable driving position or do they just go forward and backward on their rails?
I am a little confused by @jns7853 comment on the fuel lines, the motor HAD steel lines and you replaced these with rubber fuel lines because picture 217 shows the motor with steel lines, or is pic 217 of a different motor the shop was working on and it just got into the mix of pics? Does the buyer get the steel lines?
Does the buyer get all the colored lenses and what condition are they in?
Is there a spare tire/wheel, jack, tool kit, manuals, and receipts for the parts/upgrades?

Yes we left the original fuel injection lines on.
They were in excellent condition and pliable with the original rubber sheathing over them still intact and in excellent condition. Otherwise, we would’ve thought about changing to the steel lines.

Also, I noticed that the engine in photo 217 had hard line fuel injection lines that looked to be amazingly well crafted, yet the installed engine had the standard rubber-insulated plastic lines (photos 259 - 270). My 914-6 has a 2.7 with the standard (for a '76 911) CIS injection, and I've always worried about the fuel injection lines failing, resulting in a catastrophic engine fire. Any reason why the hard lines weren't used?
Very nicely done. I hope the buyer will make an effort to convert the steering column to a 911-style column (without the ignition on the column) and move the ignition to the left side of the steering column, which is correct for nearly everything that came out of Stuttgart. Not many "conversions" are done that way, but these are the little details that . . . . Well enough said. Interestingly, the bid is currently at $17,500 -- exactly what I paid for my 1970 factory 914-6 twenty years ago. My how the community has come to appreciate the virtues of the 914, and the "six" in particular. As an aside, not a huge fan of the clear taillight and front turn signal lenses, but it's a beautiful car nonetheless!

Some of the pictures that are put up are ones during the building of the car. I will make sure that I take a few more this weekend and post them for clarity.
The CIS system was completely rebuilt and functions perfectly. There are no problems with the cold or hot starts or anything with the fuel system.
There is no electrical draws, and everything with the electrical system works properly.
Yes, the car has heat and is totally connected. Again some the photos are during the build.
Yes, all the electrical components, and gauges were properly.

Really a nice example. One question, no mention in write up and pictures are not definitive but was a factory style stiffening kit ( https://pmbperformance.com/products/914-6-gt-chassis-stiffening-kit ) installed?
A few questions: Great car with some awesome upgrades. A few respectful questions. Why is the airbox cover off in the engine pics - you are describing starts up well correct are there issues with hot or cold starts or any function of CIS. Battery is out in some pictures as well- is there any electrical draws or the battery. Does the car have heat- I some pictures and does car has heat disconnected. What is the current state of the wiring and and electrical- looks like some wiring and in engine area is has some mods and temporary markings with various non factory colored wires. Do all guages and electrical components work correctly- lights etc Thank you for the information and again very very nice build.
