Up for auction at no reserve is this 1974 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow finished in two-tone Black and Silver over a red interior.  The first Rolls-Royce to use unitary body and chassis construction, the Silver Shadow replaced the Silver Cloud as the flagship full-size luxury car in the British automaker’s model line and was produced from 1965-1980.  While narrower and short than its predecessor, the Silver Shadow offered increased space for luggage and passengers and also introduced improved disc brakes and an independent rear suspension.  This 1974 example is said to have been cared for by only two owners since new and is now being offered by its seller out of New York.

This Rolls-Royce features a two-tone Black and Silver color scheme separated by chrome body molding and red-painted coachlines.  The windows and lower rockers are also accented by chrome moldings while the doors and front fenders are fitted with protective rubbing strips.  The front fascia comprises four round headlights and a distinctive chrome Pantheon grille topped with the iconic Rolls-Royce Spirit of Ecstasy.  Cosmetic imperfections are noted throughout the exterior as depicted in the photo gallery.  The car rides on 15” wheels with Rolls-Royce branded hubcaps and BF Goodrich Momentum whitewall tires.  All wheels feature a 10-slot design apart from the mismatched driver-side rear wheel which is of solid construction.

Inside, the cabin is appointed with red leather with matching carpets, chrome fittings, and decorative wood veneers.  The front seating surfaces and rear seat bench have been reupholstered in red velour.  The original pushbutton radio remains in the center console between the seats while a newer Sony head unit has been mounted in the center stack below the air vent.  The seller notes that low fluid and brake pad warning indicators are currently present on the dashboard.

This Silver Shadow is equipped with a 6.75L Rolls-Royce-Bentley L-Series V8 engine rated at 189 HP when new.  Commonly referred to as the Six and Three-Quarter, this L-Series engine is perhaps the best known British V8 of all time next to the venerable Rover V8.  The rear wheels are driven by way of a General Motors 3-speed Turbo Hydramatic 400 automatic gearbox.  Mechanical features include hydraulic-assisted dual-circuit disc brakes, and a Citroën-derived high-pressure hydropneumatic suspension with an independent setup in the rear.  There are no service records available and a video of the car running is provided below.

This sale will include a clean title.  The epitome of luxury and opulence in its day, this Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow now offers an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to take on a restoration project.

@Porsched Don't forget that you'll need to rebuild / replace the entire braking system with an engine swap. And redo the rear suspension.

Engine swaps in Shadows come with a lot of extra baggage that many folks forget about. Honestly, the motors in these are pretty damn good.

  • Porsched (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

Going to swap the motor with a LS, probably have the space for a turbo too!
