The top-range 911 offered at the time, this 1975 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe is one of only 395 examples produced for the U.S. market during the model year and came equipped with a 2.7-liter flat-six engine featuring Bosch CIS fuel-injection. It spent time in a prominent New York-based collection from which it was acquired by Porsche racing driver Patrick Long to be refurbished and offered as a raffle prize on OMAZE. It was fitted with an upgraded Tractive suspension by former Flying Lizard Racing crew chief Craig Watkins and received new seats and carpeting from the specialists at Workshop 5001. After the raffle winner opted for a cash prize instead of the car, this 911 was sold by Workshop 5001 to a local client who commissioned a custom 3.45-liter engine build featuring a GT3 crankshaft, Mahle Motorsport cylinders, custom CP pistons, Elgin cams, Pauter rods, Xtreme heads, Kinsler individual throttle bodies, and MoTeC engine management. The car also features an upgraded Porsche Classic (PCCM) radio, overhauled oil and fuel systems, 911SC brake calipers, and new 15” Fuchs wheels. This rare U.S.-market Carrera is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.
This 911 Carrera is finished in Black and features a Turbo-style Whale Tail rear spoiler, a front chin spoiler, rectangular front fog lights, and chrome window moldings. Other equipment includes a driver’s side mirror, pop-out rear quarter windows, a stainless-steel exhaust tip, slim European-spec rear bumperettes, and new 15” Fuchs wheels measuring 7” wide in front and 8” wide in the rear. The car rides on a set of Pirelli CN36 tires and the seller describes the exterior to be in very good overall condition while showing some age-related patina. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The Black interior features pinstripe velour inserts on the seats and door panels as well as a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, a wooden shift knob, and an upgraded Porsche Classic Communication Management (PCCM) radio. The seats and carpeting were redone by Workshop 5001 and the tachometer was modified with a custom redline to correspond with the upgraded engine. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.
Power comes from a custom-built 3.45-liter flat-six engine featuring a 76.4mm stroke GT3 crankshaft, a matching one-piece GT3 intermediate shaft, Mahle Motorsport 98mm cylinders, custom 11:1 CP pistons, Elgin cams, Pauter rods and rockers, Xtreme heads, Kinsler individual throttle bodies, and MoTeC M130 engine management which was wired and calibrated by Sakata. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed 915 manual transaxle and the brakes have been upgraded with 911SC calipers. An upgraded Tractive suspension has been installed and the oil and fuel systems were redone by Workshop 5001. The seller notes the original 2.7-liter CIS fuel-injected engine is complete and will be included with the sale.
This sale will include some documentation, a spare tire, a car cover, a battery charger, and a clean title (lien).

@Thecarrera911 time is added with each bid in the last 2 minutes. Looks to be operating normally on my end. Maybe you need to refresh the browser you are using?

Sorry to see all the sniping. I've owned a number of 915/G50 911's and found them all enjoyable. Personality and skill rules the day. Nicely done. GWTA
Bid in the amount of $150,000
This car is absolutely awesome. With all the work done by Workshop5001 you know it'll be a performer too! Very tempted to bid on this one, bet it's a blast to drive.
G50 has to be the most fetishized trans in car history. A well done 915 will be every bit as good as a G50 and at much less weight. If you think differently then you don't know how to drive or you have a shitty trans. This car is epic. Internet warriors trying to poke holes in it are ridiculous. This shops reputation speaks for itself.
@Disraeli911 appreciate the reference point. This engine is an evolution of the engine in that 72.
The entire video is worth a watch but here is the timestamp where the builder talks about their motors specifically

@detroittiger You sent a DM asking me a blatantly naive question in regards to the lien on this car. I responded politely letting you know the client has a loan on the car itself from Woodside financial and invited you to call me with any questions. The fact that there is a loan on the car is sort of irrelevant, especially considering I am representing the car as a licensed / bonded / insured retail dealer in CA… In regards to your comment on thin skin, I’ve spent my entire career enduring various types of abuse in the car biz. It’s made me the DLR / Mechanic / Engine builder I am. You can say anything you want to me, but if you maliciously poke at me, my work, or the auction my team has worked hard to present, expect a response… You don’t like it, don’t bid. Your buddy thinks he knows more about gearboxes, great, don’t bid.
Here’s what I see. A snarky fight between a snipey know-it—all and a thin-skinned dealer/builder. About a car that may well be bid at less than the reserve and the lien on the car.
Will be interesting to see where this auction shakes out.
@flsupraguy It’s obviously an age old debate and everyone is entitled to their opinion. Sounds like you prefer a more modern-feeling gearbox (or perhaps your 915 was a little rough?). As my handle suggests, I’m all about the feel, and love me a well sorted 915. Greatly increases charm and engagement, if that’s what you’re after. I also love how they require a bit more skill to drive well and how you have to really get to know how they like to be treated….kind of like my wife.
…I have both, in “power upgraded” cars and completely agree with rjh and 5001. The feel of a well set up 915 is fabulous. The G50 is smooth and modern but lacks the “rifle bolt” feel.
…though neither can match the old Toyota MR2.
IMHO.
I owned a tribute car with a 3.6 and a built 915 (mainly wevo and other mods) and hated the trans so much I sold the car. I'm not saying this trans isnt better than my experience but it's hard to drive a setup g50 and newer trans and go back in the other direction. Especially when the engine has been greatly built up like this car. Seems unbalanced.....
@Flsupraguy have you driven a car like this that had a properly setup 915? I have a G50 build that I track and drive hard. It's fantastic, but this build is equally good, just different. You'd have to go to great expense to convert this to G50 and it's just not worth it.
There's 100 different recipes to make 100 different versions of the same thing. Its all subjective. Some people will like a build, some won't.
@Flsupraguy how many of these cars have you built? Would love to see examples of your work. Send me the links to international press coverage of your work.
Sigh. Overbuild the engine but leave a 915 trans. Of course you wont bad mouth it as it behooves you if you do so. The facts are if this had a g50 it would yield much higher value.
@Flsupraguy ok you are the expert. I’m “biased”🤣🤣🤣🤣
lol you are selling a car that has a 915 trans........
@Flsupraguy why am I biased? We work on cars and build cars with 915 and / or G50. Doesn’t matter to me🤷♂️ like I said, start bidding, buy the car and then you can pay for whatever gearbox you want in the car…
@Flsupraguy I actually have a strong preference for a good properly functioning 915. I know many enthusiasts and collectors who agree. Of course, other may prefer the g50, but I personally think you lose some feel and authenticity when swapping in a G50.
Lol ok. I understand you may be biased but I'm sure pretty much everyone can agree that the g50 trans is leaps and bounds better than the 915
@Flsupraguy why wouldn’t we keep the original 915?? Rare that anyone does G50 swaps anymore. Overly complicated requiring modifications to the chassis or bell housing, adding hydraulic line and different pedal setup. 915 is lighter, and simple cable setup… If you buy the car and want to make it slower we will be happy to take your money and convert to G50…
@1483818 client did a loan with Woodside financial when we initially sold him the car. We are a CA retail dealer and will handle payoff when there is a transaction on the car. You are welcome to reach out if any clarification is needed.
lien on title? surprising....

Not sure why they kept the 915 trans but awesome car!
The Targa version of this car being offered for $140k in Arizona by Porsche. This fantastic drivers car has a loooong way to go to hit its true value.
Fantastic build!

@lamacan WAY LESS!!! Keep bidding, someone may get a great deal. New owner could be driving this for the holidays. If you send me an engine now it will be about a year before you are driving based on current schedule.
this is currently less than the price of the engine itself from Workshop5001. great opportunity for someone.

One of the very best engine builders. This engine layered on to this car relatively rare year 911, should be incredible outcome. https://www.enginebuildermag.com/2021/12/americcas-best-engine-shops-2021-workshop-5001/

If bidders don’t know Workshop 5001, check out the videos done on YouTube. Marlon is a world class engine builder, with a background including Singer and Ferrari. Henry Catchpole recently proclaimed Workshop 5001 builds the best restomods in the world. This car is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
@risip350 no Aircondition on this car currently, but there are kits we could retro fit. Rear belts could also be added
Does the air conditioning work and can seat belts be added to the rear seats?
Bid in the amount of $23,991
Hello to bidders. Pcar has done a nice job on write up but I suggest anyone serious on the car reach out to chat with me directly. take my engine building very seriously and lots of time / love went into this one… Brand new Porsche classic crankcase / GT3 crank & Intermediate / tons of genuine Porsche parts and custom motorsport components. The only parts not brand new on engine are chain boxes and cam towers…Worth mentioning, we did the MoTec wiring so it is all self contained in engine bay. MoTec and harness can drop out with engine and easily be transplanted to another pre 89 chassis. The numbers matching 2.7 is complete and comes with the car. This car/engine can go anywhere in the world and as long as there is WiFi we have the ability to download data / diagnose and make changes if needed… Good luck bidding!
@Slim_Chance large 41 but they are still too small. It is nice to have heat though! SSI are a great product, just restrictive. Regardless the engine is WAY MORE than you need in a street car. GT3 crank / intermediate and other lightweight internals make this engine far more than the sum of its parts. This is a weapons grade Hotrod…
Large 41mm bore SSI's or standard? This engine definitely has all the "right stuff" in it; Xtreme, Craig Watkins etc etc. GLWA
@WReiter please reach out direct. New owner will get itemized invoices with full spec and dyno sheet from AASCO dyno (SAE HP & TQ) this engine was 315hp+ / 260ftlbs+
@Disraeli911 please reach out direct so we can discuss. We certainly can verify with a 5gas analyzer. We have had to make sure our engines pass emissions all over the world. MoTec is state of the art motorsport EFI. It runs far cleaner than original CIS
I am really really interested in this car. Its near perfection.
Unfortunately the Oregon equivalent to smog states "1975 and newer" require testing.
I'm guessing theres no way to know or not if it could pass testing?
I have 7 911's currently, and I consider myself a Pcar nerd. This car is amazing. I have now looked at these photos over, and over, and over for the last few hours. Nice work all around. I think it's safe to say, that the Omaze winner who choose cash, choose incorrectly. Beautiful car. I will be watching.
Bid in the amount of $1,911
Bucketheadned in California it's 1976 and newer for smog
Yikes? Mine is the same height and it’s great. No rubbing. Rolled in the front too.
Yikes,…….the ride height, wheels, tires, wow………didn’t see a pic of headliner.
Any power/Dyno figures for the engine?
Bid in the amount of $911
Black Beauty! Was the fender roll for the front only? Any paint cracking or issues with rubbing now?
No CA smog required?
I appreciate the artful photos of spark plugs, caliper unboxing, and good ol' red white n blue backdrop. Beauty- GLWA!
