Up for auction is this 1975 Porsche 911S Silver Anniversary Edition.  Commemorating 25 years of Porsche sports car production, the 911S Silver Anniversary model was launched in 1975 and limited to 1,063 cars in total, of which only 504 reportedly made their way to the United States.  Totaled during the 1980s, this example was rebuilt by the previous owner, refinished in red, fitted with spoilers, and equipped with an upgraded 3.2L flat-six engine sourced from an RoW-spec 1985 Carrera.  The cabin has also been redone with custom grey fabric upholstery, aftermarket seats, aluminum Rennline accessories, and a MOMO steering wheel.  A true driver’s car, this rare 911S was purchased by the current owner in 2019 and is now being offered for auction out of California accompanied by a branded salvage title.

During the mid-1980s, the previous owner rebuilt and refinished the car in the current shade of red and fitted front and rear spoilers.  Originally, the 25th Anniversary models were all finished in a special Diamond Silver Metallic paint color.  The exterior marker lights have been upgraded with LEDs, the chrome trim has been painted black, and the seller reports some cosmetic imperfections throughout the exterior as depicted in the photo gallery.  This 911S rides on 16” Fuchs-style wheels with black painted centers, polished outer lips, and Dunlop tires showing date codes from 2015.  One of the center caps is missing, although the seller states that a set of new standard center caps will accompany the sale.

Inside, the cabin has been fitted with aftermarket seats which have been custom upholstered with grey tartan fabric along with the inner front and rear panels.  A new MOMO Prototipo steering wheel and shift knob have been installed as well as aluminum Rennline door locks and window cranks.  A Rennline lower dash delete cover has also been installed and the gauge cluster lighting has been upgraded with LEDs.  A Blaupunkt BPO46 radio is equipped, and the hazard light switch has been recently replaced along with the shift coupler and shift lever bushings.  The seat belts are reported to get stuck occasionally, paint chips are noted on the gauge cluster, and the dashboard shows a crack (replacement dashboard included with sale).  The seller also reports the oil temperature gauge, clock, cigarette lighter, reverse light, and air conditioning to be inoperable at this time. The original 25th Anniversary dashboard placard remains with the car and designates it as #285.

The previous owner replaced the original 2.7L powertrain in this 911S with an upgraded 3.2L flat-six engine and 5-speed manual gearbox from an RoW-spec 1985 Carrera.  This engine has been fitted with a front-mounted oil cooler, red powder-coated fan, and a non-catalyst Billy Boat stainless steel exhaust system.  A steering alignment is recommended and there are no service records predating the seller’s ownership.  An oil change was performed in April of 2021 and compression test results are provided for reference in the photo gallery.

This sale will include a salvage title.  A perfect air-cooled driver for any passionate enthusiast, this 3.2L 911S awaits its next owner.

@LorenP737 Yeah, I was going to leave it up to the buyer whether they want the plates or not. I don't have another '75 to put them on haha :)

  • LorenP737 (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@Crrjenkins does the license plate come with the car?

  • Crjenkins (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@KCnSF Thanks, in spirit of full disclosure, I just noticed this wasn't posted on the listing, but those compression numbers were provided to me for the previous sale about 18 months ago. The car has not been driven more than 2000 miles since then, so I have no reason to believe it's markedly different, but wanted to make sure everyone was aware.

  • guardsredd (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Honestly, @Howie0316 , one of the things that makes this type of platform successful is that watchers can comment and add observations like what @CABRIOLET-INT added.
Personally I didn't know about those details and I was informed by the comment. I know it might have come over as negative, but as a potential bidder, I would like to read constructive comments like that. It is useful to know what is missing or different from the edition this is advertised as.
That said this car still presents very nicely, but likely will not go into the territory that some other original unmodified Porsches of the same era have lately.
This car should make somebody a very nice driver! GLWS!

  • KCnSF (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Thank you for your honesty and compression numbers. Appreciated!

  • Crjenkins (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Hello everyone, coming in to the last 4 hours! I'll be available if anyone has any last minute questions! Good luck everyone :)

  • Howie0316 (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@CABRIOLET-INT clearly you have no interest in this car, so It is probably best if you leave your unnecessary comments out.

  • mgarciagtz 2 years, 9 monthsago

Bid in the amount of $26,911

  • Crjenkins (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@CABRIOLET-INT can't argue with you on any of those points. I'm sure an authentic, original anniversary edition would fetch a lot more than this car on auction. However, this car is going to be a great way for someone to get into a fun 911 with a great mix of CA smog exempt, 3.2L engine, and a joy to drive at a much lower price point :)

  • CABRIOLET-INT (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Everything that makes the Silver anniversary car special is missing. I know I own one. The cars were Diamond Silver, this one is Red. The interior including door panels fitted with checkered cloth inserts, gone! Plaque on glove box gone. 2.7 litre power plant gone. Lets just call this a salvage title 1975 that has been modified. Sorry to be so harsh but it's the truth.

@Lee I’m not sure either, I thought there was a way for you to send an email through the listing but I guess not.

You can text me at 818.six zero six.74 five two and we can set up a place to meet.

  • Lee (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@Crjenkins Can make that time if it works for you - not sure how to contact you to set this up.

    Lee

  • Crjenkins (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@Lee the only time I’ll have available this week is tomorrow morning between 9 & 11.

I’m not sure if the contact seller button works or not, but we can try that to try to arrange a place to meet if you’d like.

  • Lee (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Am local, any way to see the car for a look?

    Thanks

  • Crjenkins (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

    @Jahan Front tires: 205/55R16
    Front wheels: 16x7
    Rear tires 225/50R16
    Rear wheels: 16x8

  • Jahan (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Hi: What size wheels and tires are on the car?

  • Crjenkins (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@LorenP737 Correct, some AC components do exist in the engine compartment, but they are currently not belted to the engine. Previous owner didn't use it so left the components but it is not currently in working condition. I removed but retained the original lower dash AC components, as well as ashtray, and left and right leatherette pieces and they will be included in sale, but many of the under dash hoses appear to be missing as well, so I imagine if you'd like to return AC to original state it might be a bit of an undertaking. I installed that rennline lower dash delete in favor of keeping those non-functioning components installed.

  • LorenP737 (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@Crjenkins The car has AC condenser and AC pump mounted in pic of engine compartment but pic of dashboard no AC vents?

  • Crjenkins (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

New pics from underneath the car have been added :)

  • Crjenkins (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

    @Lee (and anyone else interested!)

I just sent in some pictures to pcarmarket to add to the listing, hopefully those will be added soon. I didn't have access to a proper lift, but I edited the photos to show as much detail as I could where I had access. I believe I got all of the wheel wells, as well as several general underbody shots.

  • Crjenkins (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@Lee yes, it's a '75 model year vehicle, smog exempt in CA! It is currently titled in CA.

I believe it's been in CA since the 80's, unsure of it's prior history. I don't have easy access to a lift, but let me see if I can get some solid underbody pictures this evening.

I haven't seen any evidence of rust in the typical areas, although I haven't removed carpet in the interior since I've had it either. All that to say, I haven't uncovered anything that has caused me concern.

If there are specific areas you'd like me to photograph or attempt to get more details on, I'm happy to provide it!

  • Lee (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Can you confirm that this is a 75 model year car and CA smog exempt? Us the current title a CA title?

Was this a CA car, is there any rust - any chance of some additional photos under the car?

@arttra I never got 100% clear details on what occurred, and was not able to verify exactly what happened. My understanding is that these cars weren’t worth a whole lot in the early 80’s, so it didn’t take much to total them out. The previous owner purchased the car without the engine and missing a few pieces (front fenders, rear deck lid) after it was totaled and put it in its current state. I haven’t been able to find any evidence of the accident, but I also haven’t been over every inch of the car.

  • arttra 2 years, 9 monthsago

What happened to cause the salvage title?

  • Crjenkins (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

    @BordenAG Thanks! It's been a great car while I've had it :)

  • BordenAG (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago
