This 1975 Porsche 911S Coupe is the subject of a multi-year custom restoration project which was carried out by the seller upon their acquisition in 2017. The bodywork was modified with a backdated long-hood nose section along with wide 911 Turbo steel fenders and a custom Kingston Grey finish. Inside, the cabin features Mandarin Italian leather with woven inserts and painted fiberglass bucket seats. The car derives power from a Porsche 964 flat-six engine which has been upgraded to a 3.8-liter displacement and features Mahle Motorsports RSR pistons and cylinders, Rasant individual throttle bodies, a cerakoted GT3 intake plenum, B&B headers, a GT3-style muffler, and a custom carbon fiber shroud. The rebuilt 915 gearbox is mated to a WaveTrac limited-slip differential and the car rides on 930-style suspension with Bilstein shocks and adjustable RSR sway bars. A no-expense-spared build created with high-end upgrades and painstaking attention to detail, this custom 911 backdate is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California with just over 975 miles driven since completion.
During the restoration, the car’s outer bodywork was chemically stripped to bare metal while sandblasting was used to strip the interior, luggage compartment, undercarriage, and engine bay. The seat pans were replaced and an early long-hood front slam panel was fitted along with a backdated rear license plate panel. Widened steel 911 Turbo fender flares were welded onto the body and a factory steel hood was installed featuring a custom center-mounted fuel filler. The exterior was finished in the custom color of Kingston Grey and fitted with custom fiberglass-reinforced plastic bumpers, lightweight polycarbonate vent windows, custom Singer-style side mirrors, 9Eleven LED projector headlights, chrome rear bumperettes, and blue/orange Porsche logo stripes along both sides. The car rides on 15” Braid RSR-style wheels dressed in Pirelli Cinturato P7 tires. The seller adds that clear paint protection film is applied over the full front end as well as the side stripes, rear quarters, and the underside of the rear bumper. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin is lined with Charcoal square weave German wool carpeting and imported Mandarin Italian leather which covers a pair of custom fiberglass bucket seats featuring Kingston Grey painted shells and woven leather inserts. The door panels, rear quarters, and lower parcel shelf are covered with matching woven leather upholstery while the door garnish, quarter window garnish, and rear parcel shelf are clad in black German vinyl. Other details include a custom one-piece dashboard with a billet control panel, chromed heater control arms with billet knobs, a billet headlight switch and key surround, custom Singer-style armrests, a backdated rearview mirror, Rennline floorboards, a JWest Engineering RennShift shifter, and a MOMO Prototipo steering wheel. The gauges have been completely refurbished and modified with backdated needles and silver-capped pivot pins, custom dials, new lenses, chrome rings, and LED perimeter lighting. The seller adds that there is no A/C or heating in the cabin.
Power comes from an air-cooled Porsche M64 flat-six engine sourced from a 964 model. The engine is bored to 3.8 liters and features a boat-tailed and line-bored case as well as Mahle Motorsports RSR coated pistons and cylinders. New RSR rocker shafts have been installed along with Supertec rockers, Webcam RSR camshafts, Aasco titanium valve retainers, Pauter connecting rods with Clevite bearings, a new GT3 oil pump, new timing chains and guides, and B&B 1.75" headers which are cerakoted in white and paired to a Dansk GT3-style sport muffler. The intake features a cerakoted GT3 plenum and black anodized Rasant individual throttle bodies. The twin coil-on-plug ignition system features crank fire and a MoTeC M130 control unit. A center-mounted front oil cooler was added to supplement the right fender-mounted oil cooler and is paired with Elephant Racing oil cooler lines, a new thermostat, and a refurbished oil tank. The engine compartment is finished off with a custom carbon fiber shroud and lower tin.
The rear wheels are driven by way of a 5-speed 915 manual transmission that was sourced from a 1986 Carrera and rebuilt by Bill Rader Motorsports (BRM). The gearbox includes new synchros, dogteeth, sliders, 930 Turbo bearings, a heavy-duty side plate, and WaveTrac limited slip differential mated to upgraded Turbo axles and CV joints. The suspension was sourced from a 1986 Porsche 930 Turbo and includes 19mm front and 26mm rear torsion bars, Bilstein sport shocks in the rear, Bilstein strut inserts up front, and Tarett engineering RSR adjustable sway bars. The brakes were also borrowed from a 930 Turbo and refurbished along with the installation of a power brake booster. The car was corner-balanced and aligned by Black Forest Automotive in October 2022 and an engine-out service was completed in March 2023. The seller adds that the oil filter was later cut-open and examined by a Porsche Classic Center after the engine break-in period and there were no signs of debris. A valve adjustment was also performed at this time.
This sale will include extensive build records and a clean California title.

@JJensesn I have sent a couple of pictures in and they will upload shortly
@garrege I have had the car at Monterey car week 2022, Luftgekuhlt 8, cars and coffee events in San Diego and Las Vegas, driven the car over a thousand miles in the past year, and yes I am the builder
Bid in the amount of $205,000
So much time building the car, why so few miles driven in it?
Are you the builder? Or which shop did you hire to put it together?
i have a 92 Cup Car and weighs around 26-2700 lbs with only 270 hp and she scoots with factory short gearing and this one must rip! a heater and a defroster is a must for folks like us in the snow belt. happy motoring to the new owner! do not procrastinate this one is for real and doesn't have a Singer price tag
Can you please show a picture of the lower front bumper paint and PPF damage ? Is there touch up paint available to repair it ? is this something you can repair before the new owner takes possession ?
Bid in the amount of $200,000
@Bela 2349 lb 350 hp
@Yogimaster Yes that would be possible @cost
@bmosing Wheels are 15" diameter 9" & 11" width 225 front and 285 rear tires. If this is who I think it is, thanks for the layover it was great and much appreciated!
Maybe I missed it but could you tell me the width of the rims?
Just saw the previous comments on heat/AC, wondering is it possible for the seller to install that for the winner?
Couple of questions, given the built was sourced from various vintages, what does the title state as the year and model? How involved is it to install air/heat in this car?
Bid in the amount of $182,000
@AlexD The color is more blue than grey, a lot of Porsche enthusiasts think it is Gulf blue. It trends more towards the blue/ grey of late model Honda accords, Subaru forester, ford bronco’s. It is very hard to photograph the car as different light really affects it
@flyn-hawn thank you!
And as far as the color of the exterior. Is this kingston grey something of a retro arctic blue? Or is it more grey in person than it looks in the pictures?
Beautiful build!!!
Excuse me, if you mentioned before, but do you know the weight of the car and have an estimate on the horsepower? Thank you
I too have seen this car in person. Best in class build with top notch engine builder. All customs have there minor issues for time to time (including Singers), I would sleep well knowing Dave would take great care to make it right. This is a critcal part of the pruchase. Amazing car. Simply, if I had the funds, I would be ALL In.

@Jimgill The paint finish quality is excellent, smooth and clear, free of orange peel. The stripes are decals with a very fine metallic finish, all striping is covered with pant protection film. The front bumper although covered has a couple of pebble hits that have partially damaged the film maybe 1/8" and front very lower left corner has worn through a half inch long by 1/4" wide spot that a strap made during trailering
Please comment on the paint finish quality. Ate the stripe painted or decal?

@wingless the black is actually carbon fiber and it only shows that in the very early stages of assembling the car. Using it was never really in the plan, it was supplied with the dash and we just got a few shots with it in place for possible future reference in another build.
Why do some images show the dash covered w/ black woven leather and others showing it covered in tan?

Absolutely stunning and well built! Great build by a super guy! The winner I can only imagine will be extremely excited to receive this car! Why wait a min of a year to three years to build your dream aircooled beast when this one is right here in front of you.
@AlexD Not so wildly silly as not so simple to answer without having any context to answer the questions.
I’ll go with seat of the pants answers with how I’m interpreting the questions, which may be different from the answer you wanted.
1. The car drives great
2. I will compare with the 1979 911 Turbo that can be seen a couple times in the driving video. I actually drove the car behind Romi who was driving the subject car here. My car is 500 lb lighter, more focused and more powerful
3. Have a dyno session scheduled for tomorrow estimate 350hp at the motor 2349lb estimated sub 5 second 0-60 maybe sub 4 second but do I want to possibly roast a clutch and tires on 10 attempts to get that number?
This may be a wildly silly question, but how does this car drive?
Anything it could be compared to?
Any specs on the upgraded power and performance?

@ronn356 I have purchased 3 electric ac units made by classic retrofit in the UK over the years, I installed one in a previous build and sold the other 2 to fellow enthusiasts. I was an early believer in the system and bought one as soon as they became available as I really liked the way that it did not clutter the engine compartment, and the completeness of the system. They have been upgraded over the years and have been well received, cost is approximately $6,200 plus shipping and lead times are 4-5 weeks as of today, install is 3-5 days. I had planned on using the in seat elements that heat and cool the occupants but our material choice unfortunately did not allow for that to happen and by that time the units I had were already sold. ps, thank you for the compliment on the build!!
Please comment on your experience with electric heat-A/C units regarding cost, availability, utility. Puzzled why you did not install such.
Beautiful build otherwise.

I'm not familiar with the way bidding goes here. I assume these early bids in small increments are meant as expressions of appreciating the vehicle. Presumably with 4+ days to go, until the last 30 mins, the real market is wide open. I'll bid again, just for fun, not with any expectation of the game being in play yet.

@nosubstitute4porsche Sorry for missing your question earlier, yes it is possible. I had originally wanted to use the heated/air conditioned seat arrangement like in many of the newer cars. However because of the material we ended up going with that was not possible. I have done factory style air and the electric ac unit out of the UK, not sure what the lead time is now on a complete package but install takes less than a week once all the parts are here. Heat would require new exhaust system, there again not to big of a deal and with all parts 1-2 days for install.

Thank you for all the positive feedback. I was at a cars and coffee event this morning and just got back, the car was very well received lots of attention and questions, no to answer some here.
@burnrubr No short gearing, the spacing on the late Carrera gearbox is wonderfully matched to the engine for this application. Lots of torque to carry you through if you do not want to row thru the gears or you could just as easily blast through the gears up and down in the twisties to your hearts content without being lacking anywhere. We had a very similar package in my previous build, we took that into account as we built this car.
@Acahoon seat belts yes 4 inch lap belts, seats are adjustable but are not on sliding mounts they are directly mounted to the car
@550bryan As Jim mentioned I build them and enjoy the process and the people I meet when we show and drive them, but they are ultimately built to be sold.
ET550 In the Porsche community a backdate is referring to the process of making a later model car, 1975 in this case, physically look like an earlier model car, there again in this case a 1973 rsr. Hence the term backdate
@JimKrouskop Thank you for chiming in Jim! aloha
Bid in the amount of $128,500
@550bryan Dave (flyn-hawn) builds and sells custom 911s like this as a business. This is the 4th or 5th longhood he has built and all are of the highest quality and craftsmanship. Dave is also a true enthusiast and class act. Bid and buy with confidence. If you can, see this rig in person. It is stunning! GLWTA!
Great build, but can you really call a 911 that started out as a 1975 and has received numerous later model updates, a "backdate". Seems more like a restomodded 1975 to me.
As someone has said this is a forever car, really well done, which begs the question, why is the seller parting with it when It has just been finished?
Seat belts ? Adjustable Seats ?

Hello everyone and thanks for checking in with my aucion. Just letting everyone know, especially anyone in southern California that I will have the car at Rancho Santa Fe cars and coffee tomorrow morning for viewing.
Literally as good as it gets for a car that doesn't say "Singer" on the back. This is a forever car.
