Finished in Nepal Orange over a black vinyl interior, this 1975 Porsche 914 1.8 was acquired by its previous owner in 1977 who went on to become a champion driver for Bob Zecca of Driving Impressions in Dover, New Jersey throughout the 1980s. The car is said to have been used as a weekend driver and was enjoyed sparingly by its owner until her passing in 1997. It was placed in storage for 12 years before her husband resurrected the car in 2009 and performed services to ensure its roadworthiness. This 914 was eventually consigned with Powertech Motorsports in New Jersey where a major service was completed prior to the seller’s acquisition in 2021. Under the current ownership, additional maintenance was performed along with the installation of upgraded stainless-steel fuel lines, rear Bilstein shocks, a new AA fuel tank, and a Permatune ignition distributor. Showing approximately 56k original miles on the odometer, this 914 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Ohio.

This late-model Porsche 914 is finished in Nepal Orange with black bumpers and rocker panels, dual polished mirrors, black Porsche logo side stripes, and a removable Targa top. Other equipment includes black vinyl sail panel covers and integrated front fog lights included with the optional Appearance Group package, pop-up headlamps, chrome door handles, a “PORSCHE” logo tail panel reflector, and aftermarket “Dan Gurney” Western Wheels that were reportedly installed by the original selling dealer. The car rides on a set of Sumitomo tires from 2019 and the original spare steel wheel is mounted in the trunk. The seller notes the passenger front fender was repaired following a very minor incident in the 1980s and the refinished paintwork is flaking slightly. The hood and headlamp covers are also said to have been previously refinished to address rock chips. Noted imperfections include a few very small paint chips, small dimples in the driver’s door, paint bubbles on the wheel wells, and signs of rust on the lower rear valence. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin is appointed with black vinyl upholstery covering the seats, door panels, dashboard, and center console. Equipment includes two-way adjustable bucket seats, a four-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel, a heater, manual window cranks, a rear window defroster, and an aftermarket Bluetooth stereo with upgraded speakers and a subwoofer. The optional Appearance Group also includes a center console with a clock and additional gauges for temperature and battery voltage. The seller reports all gauges and accessories to be fully functional.

Power comes from an air-cooled 1.8-liter flat-four engine featuring Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection, an upgraded Permatune ignition distributor, and a Bursch muffler. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 5-speed manual transaxle that was serviced with a new clutch and flywheel in 2011 at 47,612 miles. A detailed history of service was provided by the seller and is included below:

This sale will include the original Hella turn signal lenses and stock speaker mounts, owner's manuals, a spare tire, a car cover, a battery charger, sales literature, vintage photos with the original owner, the original purchase agreement, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know:I am technically the 2nd owner of the car as owner #1 only had it for a few miles. It was then purchased by the 44-year owner before being sold to me. She was only driven sparingly over that time, hence the little over 54,000 original miles now showing on the clock (it had 50,086 when I bought it). The original dealer took the car back on trade in ’77 and sold it to his then-18-year-old girlfriend. She was a passionate enthusiast who participated in a variety of rallies and events in places like Lime Rock and Pocono. She went on to become a champion driver for Bob Zecca of Driving Impressions in Dover, NJ throughout the 80s – then driving a Fiat X/19. The 914 was simply a summer weekend car and never in the snow or rarely in the rain (obviously due to lack of rust). Unfortunately, she passed away prematurely in 1997 and the car was put in storage for 12 years. Her husband resurrected it in 2009, updating/repairing everything to make the car sound again. He only put about 3,000 miles on her before storing it again for 8 years and then turning it over for consignment in 2021. Powertech Motorsports in NJ thoroughly sorted out the mechanicals once again (I have all the records) and I purchased it that fall. I had it serviced by Chris Moore of Autobahn Extremist here in Cleveland. Chris is a 914 Concours judge and vintage Porsche fanatic. He performed a few minor adjustments (I’ll list those in a separate post and have all docs) and I have driven the car flawlessly in only beautiful weather for over 4,000 miles (and countless smiles). The new owner will receive a time-capsule “driver”. Almost 100% stock, virtually rust-free except for minor pitting in the wheel wells and rear valance. I’ve been told that the paint is 100% original, except for the hood & headlamp covers that showed signs of chipping. When looking at her, nobody believes it’s a 48-year-old car!”

@vintagelou62 - those were Hella brand aftermarket lights for the "frunk". They don't operate now and frankly, I never troubleshooted to try and fix. Didn't need them as I rarely drive the car at night.

And the silver thing by the wheel well is the lock for an old-school car alarm. The alarm system was not in the car when I got it. But I think that lock add's character to the vintage look. I have 2 keys for it though!

Just uploaded a few more interior close-ups. Care taken by the original 45-year owner is amazing. Also the beneficiary of east coast weather – interior not wrecked by constant sun and heat. Hard to believe it’s 48 years old!

Hi @NYPHIL - She's back up on the lift in the garage right now, so I can't take another pic. I know I have one somewhere though...but I can't find it right now. It's #EC042655. Chassis #0339002. If you REALLY want a pic, I'll bring the car down and take one. But this is the number I wrote down when I found it last time. Thanks.

  • NYPHIL (registered bidder) 7 monthsago

Lovely, very pure example! @Rico914 , can you please post a photo of the engine number that is stamped on the engine case. It should begin with "EC". Thank you!

About the wheels – These are “Dan Gurney’s” by Western Wheel. An old Pelican post says: “It was common practice by the selling dealer to remove the factory wheels, and put on a set of aftermarket alloys to pump up the invoice. The Gurney’s are neither lighter or better looking in particular. They just allowed the dealership to get a bigger margin on the sale.”

These were popular on the 914’s back in the day. I like ’em. They give the car a cool racing aesthetic and I get plenty of compliments on them. The car originally came with the stock "Steelie's" (it's on the spare) but the selling dealer obviously upgraded them. I've uploaded a few pix to the gallery showing similar 914's sporting them. Of course, original Steelie's or repro Fuchs are available if you want to go back to stock.

Sale will include the original Hella turn signal lenses and stock speaker mounts. I just liked the look of the Euro covers…which go nicely with the tail lights. I sourced the NOS Hella pair on the car now from a guy in Belgium.

Hello everyone and welcome to the auction of my very special “survivor” 914. I have loved this car for the last two years but just bought a 718 Boxster and only have so much room in the garage! The photos and description here say just about everything there is to say about the car. I have driven it 4,500 miles over the last two summers...so that gives you a pretty good idea about its reliability. Turn the key and go, without issue.

You may recognize it from the BaT sale which just ended with RNM. Frankly, they burned me by running my car directly against an impeccable example...that sold for $64K!!! My car was an amazing bargain in comparison. But all the attention was on the Super Model. Oh well. Today's a new day and I hope another enthusiast here will be taking her home in a week.

I'm around all the time to answer questions and will be posting more pix over the week. As well, the car is available for inspection in NE Ohio. Thanks for looking (and hopefully bidding!).

P.S. The last clip in my driving video is what I call the "F1 Version". I taped a cheap remote mic to the license plate so you could hear what the Bursch muffler sounded like outside the cabin. Well, that sound is a little overpowering for the mic. And I think the audio sounds like an original F1 video game I had about 20 years ago playing through my cheap computer speakers. Entertaining, nonetheless. Through either clip, you'll see that this thing is an absolute blast to drive!
