Up for auction at no reserve is this 1976 Porsche 911S Coupe finished in Light Yellow over a tan interior. Equipped with a fuel-injected 2.7L flat-six engine, 5-speed manual gearbox, a sunroof, and rare factory Sport Seats, this 911S was sold new to its original owner from Gateway Porsche/Audi of Portland, Oregon, and was eventually acquired by the seller’s father in 1986. The car was driven sparingly up until the mid-1990s when it was parked indoors for a mechanical upgrade which was never completed. A true barn find 911, this 1976 example has remained undriven on the same property ever since and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Oregon accompanied by the original owner’s manual.
This 911S came factory finished in Light Yellow (117), a distinctive shade for the era which was also popular on the iconic Carrera RS. The factory 15” wheels remain equipped and the finish exhibits fading and corrosion throughout as well as some areas of missing paint. The rubber trim has degraded and a crack is present in the windshield. The seller notes a few small rust holes and reports the fuel filler door will not open, additional images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin is trimmed in tan leatherette upholstery and features rare factory Sport Seats with deep bolsters and basketweave pattern inserts. Modifications include a JVC cassette stereo, Pioneer rear speakers, and a black leather MOMO shift knob. The upholstery exhibits fading and discoloration as well as traces of mold. The steering wheel is heavily worn, and the door panels have largely deteriorated with age.
The 1976 911S comes equipped with an air-cooled 2.7L flat-six engine and Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection. Power is sent to the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual gearbox. The seller’s father had commenced an electronic ignition system install when the car was placed in storage, and the distributor cap was found removed in the engine bay as evidence of this unfinished project. The car cannot be started at this time.

@jbauto You're entitled to your opinion but the fact is the car was initially parked to install an electronic ignition, a project that got started but was never finished. It wasn't parked to be stored for 25 years. Regarding wrapping the car in plastic? I'm no scientist, but I know they use Petri dishes to cultivate mold and bacteria. Add the formation of condensation from warming and cooling in an already damp NW climate and somebody call Guinness. We may have the world's biggest Petri dish of rust and mold. Indeed, after 25 years, I think you would be surprised how well that works. Thank you for your comment.
I wish I had the confidence to jump in on this car. I would gut it and turn it into a race car and not touch the exterior. Someone is going to have a project for a great project.
I'm with @witz. What a lazy shame. The whole Roof is toast. If you have to store a car outside, back the car over a 20x30' piece of plastic and wrap it tight like a Tootsie Roll. You won't believe how well that works 10 years later when you open it up.

Very cool- a genuine barn find, complete with barn. This is the Porsche I would want: a 911, a coupe, ready for a complete restoration. I'm already jealous and it isn't sold yet.

@redgard I don't latch it because the release mechanism in the cab is frozen and I don't want to force it. However, when I close it as far as I can short of latching it everything looks good. I'm sure if I did press it into the latch it would look as it should. The car has not been in a collision that I know of.
one more question. I noticed in the photos of the front of the car the front hood is ajar. Does this hood close all the way and latch and are the gaps even and consistent?

@redgard No factory A/C. I don't think it has a front oil cooling system.

@Haltung You're right, there are a couple minor holes in the roof. I overspoke. I was addressing the concern dakrei mentioned as a result of the roof condition, "one can expect even worse for the bottom". As you can see from the images of the floorboards and the recently added pictures of the pan, there does not appear to be a significant problem at "the bottom". I apologize for the misleading statement. I was being dismissive of the severity not deceptive of the existence.

@witz The car was not covered wet. However, it is a car, it's been outdoors in its lifetime. It has been stored indoors. The pics of the floor boards do not show corrosion. Furthermore, pics of the pan are forthcoming and they do not show signs of corrosion either. So things might not be as bad as you speculate. Thanks for your comment.
@Somer Pan pics are forthcoming. I uploaded them to Pcar this weekend. When they download them to the listing, you can see for yourself the pan is in good shape. The pics will be at the bottom of the gallery section. There are also pics of early maintenance records taken from the original warranty and maintenance manual. To my knowledge the engine has never been out. I have no receipts for work performed.
@twickes40 I rolled the car ahead a few feet while in gear and the engine is not seized. I also checked the oil and it still looks new.
I rolled the car ahead a few feet while in gear to turn the motor over and it turned over just fine. I also pulled the dipstick to check the condition of the oil. While it was low on the stick, it was as gold as the day it went in. I uploaded the pics of the dipstick as it was when I pulled it to Pcar. When they download them to the listing you can see them for yourself in the gallery section.
There were some early comments expressing concern for conditions under the car, specifcally with the pan. I was able to get under the car this weekend and capture some good images of the pan. They, along with the pics already posted of the floor boards will assure you there is not a corrosion problem with the pan. I have uploaded the new pics to Pcar. When they get them downloaded to the listing, you can see for yourself the pan is in great shape.

This could be the one. Battery tray pristine, appears to have Carrera tensioner upgrade, period correct recaps, and owner's manual with stamps. The rare euro-spec heater core, in the frunk, and the lion on the shifter boot are worth the current bid.

I am going try and post some pictures of the car's undercarriage tonight or tomorrow. In the meantime, I thought it would be of interest to point out, to the best of my knowledge, this car has spent its entire lifetime in the State of Oregon and Oregon does not salt driving surfaces. So, the car has not been exposed to salted driving conditions.

Love the retread tires! I doubt this one was tracked. If the roof if rusted through one can expect even worse for the bottom.
Looks like there was a lot of wetness under the car cover than never dried out. The first year Porsche galvanized the body was 77'. This one has mold and rust issues. Needs everything!

@Jameswerks I wish I could answer that with certainty but I can't. I would guess that the numbers match. I don't recall my father engaging in work that would compromise that and the car was only ten years old when he acquired it. Hope that answer offers you some solace.
