In 1974, the new Porsche 911 G-Series was introduced featuring a shortened hood, boxy impact bumpers, and a fuel-injected 2.7-liter engine derived from the legendary Carrera RS. This U.S.-spec 1976 example is a non-sunroof 911S Coupe finished in Ice Green Metallic over a Black interior. It was purchased by the seller about 9 years ago from a dealer who acquired the car from the original owner’s estate. Previously sold on PCARMARKET, this 911S is now being offered for auction once again as the initial buyer failed to complete the transaction.

This 911S came factory-finished in the desirable color of Ice Green Metallic and is said to have been completely refinished in its original color under prior ownership. The car is decorated with brightwork for the headlight rings, door handles, and window moldings. Other features include black U.S.-spec rear safety bumpers, a body-colored driver’s side mirror, a fender-mounted antenna, a center tail panel reflector with Porsche lettering, and polished 15” Fuchs wheels. The seller indicates new Riken Raptor tires were installed in April 2023 and the car’s exterior underwent paint correction upon their purchase in 2014. The finish is described to be in very good overall condition apart from some minor stone chips consistent with normal road-going wear. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin is appointed with Black leather and vinyl upholstery and features a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, folding rear seatbacks, manual window cranks, black Coco floor mats, a heater, a quartz clock, a locking glove box, and an aftermarket Alpine stereo. The seller describes the interior to be in excellent condition with no rips, tears, or signs of excessive wear. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.

Power comes from an air-cooled and fuel-injected 2.7-liter flat-six engine that drives the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual transaxle. The seller indicates a major engine-out service was completed in 2022 after the car had been sitting for 6 years to ensure its reliability and roadworthiness. There are no outstanding maintenance items reported at this time.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a jack, a space-saver spare tire, some documentation, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “I purchased this car in 2014 after searching for this color (ice green metallic).  I drove it sparingly after I first bought the car, and then the car sat for the next 6 years as I have other air-cooled Porsches.  I decided to get the car back on the road last year, so my shop did extensive work to make the car a reliable car.  I drove the car to Monterey in August for the month and enjoyed it on the Peninsula during car week.  It is a reliable and sorted narrow body 911 in one of the best period colors that is ready to be enjoyed!”

I have found smog pumps and thermo reactors on pelican parts classifieds. Often shelved or given away as many states no longer require them.

@Efariab - thank you for the information and the offer to assist with smog equipment

I am available to answer questions as we wind down the auction. Good luck to all interested parties

  • Efariab (registered bidder) 2 weeks, 6 daysago

The smog equipments that originally came on the Porsche 911s in 1975, '76 and '77 for California cars have been mostly removed by the owners who live and register their cars outside of CA, for obvious reasons!
Those cars are very hard to pass the Smog and as the result, it's almost impossible to register any car with missing specific Emission equipments for the state, in the State of California.
I have had this similar situation a few years ago with a customer's car and since then we have collected (as many as available) few random smog/Emissions parts for the future use .
If anyone is interested, please contact me through Pcarmarket, if they provide such feature .

Goodluck to the seller and the potential winner of this gorgeous 911S, today .

@GrigioF430 - thanks for the information. This is a 49 state car.

  • GrigioF430 3 weeks, 4 daysago

@AIR_MotorSports After looking closely at your photos, this appears to be a 49 state car/engine - not a car sold originally in Cali. The exhaust system & lack of EGR light on the dash is telling. If the engine number starts with 646XXXX that will be the proof (I couldn't tell with your engine number photo). If it does, you have a 1976 type 911/82 engine (49 state).

  • GrigioF430 3 weeks, 4 daysago

@AIR_MotorSports A 1976 911S sold new in California would have come equipped with a smog pump (and associated plumbing / air injection system), an EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) system, and the dreaded Thermal Reactor exhaust manifolds. If the car has a small red light with "EGR" on the front, located on the dash between the speedometer & tachometer, then it is clearly a California car. You can also check with the engine number. If it is a 49 state car, you should check with CARB or a smog test station to see if it requires adding any of these items to be smog compliant in California - I honestly do not know. When it comes to passing smog testing in California, it is somewhat dependent on the inspector. This is a good reference for mid-year emissions equipment: https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/579552-76-911-what-smog-equipment-calif.html
    Good luck to you.

  • AIR_MotorSports (seller) 3 weeks, 4 daysago

@GrigioF430 - I’m not familiar with anything else that may be required for a 1976 911, but if you believe that the smog system requires something more than the smog pump and the air injection system, please let me know and I can confirm. Thanks

Regarding California smog compliance - There is more to the smog equipment than an air pump and spider. Is the rest of it already on the car?

  • AIR_MotorSports (seller) 3 weeks, 5 daysago

@Bruce914 - The car does not have a smog pump or air injection spider. Once these items are sourced and installed, I expect that the car would be able to pass CA smog but I have not attempted to do so.

  • Bruce914 (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 5 daysago

I see in the BAT auction it said that it will not pass a California smog - is that still true?

From BAT , who replaces a pinion bearing and does not completely rebuild a Transaxle

    https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1976-porsche-911s-53/

the car reportedly spent time in Hawaii before being acquired by the seller in 2014. Equipment includes Fuchs 15” wheels, a heater, manual windows, and an aftermarket CD stereo. Service in 2022 following a period of storage is said to have consisted of repairing oil leaks, rebuilding the CDI box, and replacing the clutch, a transmission pinion bearing, the battery, engine sound pad, oil cooler, and fuel injectors. This 911S is now offered in California with a clean Arizona title.

    @UpstateSC @jbikis
As noted in the auction description, the high bidder in the prior auction failed to perform. The mileage is still under 120k. I will reach out to PCarMarket to have them correct this in the basic facts. Thanks

Looks like the car sold 4 months and 11,000 miles ago. Any explanation? Thanks - love the Ice Green Metallic!

  • AIR_MotorSports (seller) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

@911jel - thanks for your comment and interest. This is a magnesium case engine. I don’t have any service history prior to my ownership, but the engine does not have any broken head studs if that is what you’re asking. Thanks

  • 911jel (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

Great looking 911! Mag case engine? Can you comment if the known heating issues with this engine block have been addressed? Thank you
