  • Seller Type: Private Party
  • Location: Beverly Hills, CA 90210

In 1974, the new Porsche 911 G-Series was introduced featuring a shortened hood, boxy impact bumpers, and a fuel-injected 2.7-liter engine derived from the legendary Carrera RS. This U.S.-spec 1976 example is a non-sunroof 911S Coupe finished in Ice Green Metallic over a Black interior. It was purchased by the seller about 9 years ago from a dealer who acquired the car from the original owner’s estate. This 911S underwent a major engine-out service within the last year and is now being offered for auction out of California with approximately 120k miles showing on the odometer.

This 911S came factory-finished in the desirable color of Ice Green Metallic and is said to have been completely refinished in its original color under prior ownership. The car is decorated with brightwork for the headlight rings, door handles, and window moldings. Other features include black U.S.-spec rear safety bumpers, a body-colored driver’s side mirror, a fender-mounted antenna, a center tail panel reflector with Porsche lettering, and polished 15” Fuchs wheels. The seller indicates new Riken Raptor tires were installed in April 2023 and the car’s exterior underwent paint correction upon their purchase in 2014. The finish is described to be in very good overall condition apart from some minor stone chips consistent with normal road-going wear. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin is appointed with Black leather and vinyl upholstery and features a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, folding rear seatbacks, manual window cranks, black Coco floor mats, a heater, a quartz clock, a locking glove box, and an aftermarket Alpine stereo. The seller describes the interior to be in excellent condition with no rips, tears, or signs of excessive wear. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.

Power comes from an air-cooled and fuel-injected 2.7-liter flat-six engine that drives the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual transaxle. The seller indicates a major engine-out service was completed in 2022 after the car had been sitting for 6 years to ensure its reliability and roadworthiness. There are no outstanding maintenance items reported at this time.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a jack, a space-saver spare tire, some documentation, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “I purchased this car in 2014 after searching for this color (ice green metallic).  I drove it sparingly after I first bought the car, and then the car sat for the next 6 years as I have other air-cooled Porsches.  I decided to get the car back on the road last year, so my shop did extensive work to make the car a reliable car.  I drove the car to Monterey in August for the month and enjoyed it on the Peninsula during car week.  It is a reliable and sorted narrow body 911 in one of the best period colors that is ready to be enjoyed!”

A few final thoughts as we approach the last 20 minutes or so:
    - The car is fully sorted, with lots of time and money spent in the last year or so to make this car a fun and reliable car. I drove the car around Monterey during the month of August, and went out on a spirited drive this past weekend, and it performed flawlessly. The car is ready for a fly in and drive home if you want to make a trip out of it!
    - The car is presently located in Southern California, and titled in Arizona. There are no US import duties to pay (the last ice green car sold here was subject to a 2.5% import duty).
    - I can store the car indoors for a reasonable period if you want to pick it up after the holidays or in the spring for a fly and drive experience!
    - We can help deliver the car to the port or a carrier of your choice for international shipping, and have resources for international shipping and well as domestic.
    - If the winning bidder would like to make any changes, upgrades or modifications (i.e., aftermarket steering wheel, refinish the Fuchs, etc.), we can accommodate this at a nominal cost
    - Ice Green Metallic is a fantastic color on these impact bumper cars, and this car gets compliments and attention whenever I drive it!
Good luck to everyone, and thanks for all of the interest and bids!

Great stories both. How can I with good conscience bid against @leith?

In the quest to locate these cars it is important not to overlook the red and black ones as so many of these iconic colors lost favor and were literally covered up in 80's-90's blah.

  • AIR_MotorSports (seller) 4 months, 4 weeksago

My acquisition of this car parallels @Leith 's quest. My father had a 1977 911S in this same color combo. He sold the car in the late 1980's, supposedly to a buyer in Canada. After my father died in 2010, I searched for his car in vain for several years. I bought this one after giving up the search, and it was a real treat to take my mother for a drive in this car. Fast forward to earlier this year, and after I decided to sell this car, I finally located my father's old car (still in Canada). While my dad's car isn't for sale, I've been in touch with the current owner and happy to know that it is still being enjoyed. Hopefully, one of the bidders here will enjoy this car and make more memories in the years to come! Thanks for all the bids and interest!

@rodericks The car was in Hawaii before I acquired it and I believe spent most of its time there until I bought it in 2014

  • AIR_MotorSports (seller) 4 months, 4 weeksago

There are no other bubbles. In some areas, the base coat appears to be applied thicker and I think this is what you are seeing. The overall condition of the paint is very good, with excellent shine and consistent color throughout. I have owned the car for more than 9 years and there hasn’t been any change in the paint condition during that time and it was too nice for me to consider repainting. There are some chips, nicks and blemishes consistent with the age and usage of the car, but the car presents very well and will get lots of attention at any cars & coffee gathering or a regional Porsche show.

  • rodericks 4 months, 4 weeksago

Noticed the safety sticker on the rear. How long was the car in Hawaii?

  • Leith 4 months, 4 weeksago

Bid in the amount of $47,750

  • Leith (registered bidder) 4 months, 4 weeksago

Um...not sure if the bidders will sympathize with me or not, but basically this is the twin to a 76 911S that I sold about 8 or 9 years ago to a car broker.

I owned it for 16 years and sold it because we had too many cars clogging up the driveway and I never could get to it. Actually, I told my husband if I sold the Porsche would he please sell the thirty year old suburban and ancient mercedes. It was like selling a child. It shot off rainbows when I pulled it out of the garage. I should have known then not to have sold it. I have tried in vain to find it the past year. So, when I saw this one I was floored. I immediately thought it was mine. But, it is a different VIN. And mine had A/c. I was the second owner. Anyway....just putting my story out there. Mine is a nostalgic bid. If I could share a picture I would!!

This is a very nice car just trying to hone my expectations...

I would not say it is imperceptible, but clearly not raised to the extent as in pic #31. But in pic #110 it now appears that the issue is not isolated to the bubble but is part of a more general area of orange peel, unless the camera is distorting something. Can you comment?

Thank you Seller for your reply. Duly Noted.

  • AIR_MotorSports (seller) 4 months, 4 weeksago

@TBKTX - i believe the issue was likely due to preparation of the car when it was repainted by the prior owner - most likely either not adequately prepared or some chemical was not cleaned, causing the small area to not adhere - as the car is rust free. The area is about the size of a nickel and hasn't changed during my ownership.

  • AIR_MotorSports (seller) 4 months, 4 weeksago

In response to a few queries, I can store the car indoors for a month while shipping arrangements are made, or for a fly in and drive home. In addition, I can deliver the car to the port of LA/Long Beach for international shipping.

@Cozad1955 - We have no evidence of the valve guides being replaced, however the car doesn't smoke and produces excellent power. With regard to rust proofing, beginning in 1975 or 1976, Porsche began galvanizing cars and this car appears to be galvanized. The car has no rust. When I bought the car, the battery tray had corrosion from leaking battery acid. This was professionally replaced by my shop back in 2014 or early 2015.

  • Cozad1955 (registered bidder) 5 monthsago

I understand these cars have pretty soft valve guides. Have they been replaced? Can you tell me if the car had rust proofing which I think started mid-year for 1976. Thanks.

  • AIR_MotorSports (seller) 5 monthsago

    @stephenolitsky - Thanks Steve, hope you're well

I drove the car over 150 miles this weekend and it ran great. Driving videos currently being edited, but the full length videos are available on my YouTube page (which you can find through the other videos that have been posted) if you want to watch them before they are slimmed down for bite-sized viewing. A few things to note from the weekend's drive:
    - As noted, the temp gauge is not working, but this will be fixed this week.
    - The transmission shifts well and does not grind, but does sometimes balks when shifting into first gear. We will see if some adjustment is necessary to improve this.
    - The emergency brake doesn't grip well, this will be adjusted this week as well
The car drove flawlessly and sounds great. The full 36 minute video of the drive up Angeles Forest Highway to Newcomb's Ranch today is available for anyone who wants to check it out.

George the car looks great! Good luck with sale.

@UpstateSC - no carrera tensioners, but a pop-off valve is installed in the airbox

  • UpstateSC (registered bidder) 5 monthsago

Very nice mid year, and I love the Ice Green Metallic!
I can't tell from the pictures - does it have oil-fed tensioners? Pop-off valve in air box?
    Thanks!

  • AIR_MotorSports (seller) 5 monthsago

@Bruce914 - As noted below, the car is missing the air injection pump and the air injection spider. However with these parts, I believe the car would pass CA smog

@Dino993 - just posted some undercarriage photos, including one when the engine was out of the car. No rust whatsoever, and floors are all original.

@Damaho912 - clock now fully functional and keeping good time, although I realized after I left the shop today that the temp gauge now does not seem to be working, so we will have that addressed during the week. Rest assured that I will make sure that all the gauges are working properly for the winning bidder.

Working on walkaround and driving videos. Thanks for all the comments, interest, questions and bids!

The wheels that are on the car are as they were when I bought it in 2014. The full polished look has grown on me over the years and I believe complements the ice green well, however if someone prefers the black inset area, we can do this before the car goes out to the new owner.

The car is currently titled and registered in Arizona, in a jurisdiction that does not require any sort of emissions testing. The air injection pump and spider have been removed, with the air injection ports plugged. I don’t have an intact air injection spider, although I may have a pump somewhere. If a buyer sources these parts, I can have them installed at no cost in order to make the car California smog compliant.

Here's your chance at another Ice Green Metallic 911!

  • AIR_MotorSports (seller) 5 monthsago

Welcome to my auction for my Ice Green Metallic 1976 911S. I am a partner in AIR MotorSports, a classic car restoration facility in Van Nuys, CA. Starting in 2022, I pulled the car from storage and had the shop mechanic go through all systems to get the car sorted as a reliable driver, and I will post a list of the parts that were replaced in this process. The fuel and ignition systems received the initial attention, as part of an engine out service, and various gaskets and seals were replaced to reseal the engine. The transmission was opened and inspected and a bearing was replaced. A full list of parts will be posted shortly. This car needs nothing except a new driver to be enjoyed! Car is available for in-person inspection at my home in Beverly Hills or my shop in Van Nuys. Driving video and walk-around video will be posted shortly. Please reach out with any questions. Thanks
