Now available for auction is this 1976 Porsche 912E presented in Bitter Chocolate over a Tan leatherette interior.  Offered exclusively in the U.S. market for one year only, this 1976 912E debuted a 2.0 L flat-four engine borrowed from Porsche's 914 model. Said to be in excellent running order while sporting its factory specified color combination, this 1976 example was the subject of a full bare-metal restoration in 2012 as well as an engine rebuild which was performed less than 12k miles ago.  Accompanied by a full history of ownership, restoration documents and service records dating back to 1979, this numbers matching Porsche 912E is now being offered by its seller in Ohio.

In 2008, this 1976 example was completely dismantled, taken down to bare metal and professionally refinished in its factory specified color of Bitter Chocolate.  During the restoration all body seals are said to have been replaced and the seller notes the exterior finish to remain in very good condition with paint protection film applied over the front end.  A few imperfections are noted on the hood, left rear quarter panel and roof (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  The genuine 14” Fuchs wheels feature color-matched centers as well as period-correct Vredestein tires.

Inside, the Tan leatherette interior is said to remain in excellent condition with minimal signs of wear including a couple of small cracks in the dashboard.  The seats have been reupholstered and new carpeting has been fitted.  A JVC radio has also been installed along with aftermarket speakers, and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be fully functional.

Power comes from an air cooled 2.0 L flat-four engine derived from the Porsche 914.  Approximately 86 HP is delivered to the rear wheels through a numbers matching 5-speed manual transmission.  A full engine rebuild is said to have been carried out by Translog within the last 12k miles.  The seller also indicates that a valve adjustment has been recently performed along with the replacement of the distributor points, condenser, spark plugs and ignition wires.  This 912 is reported to be in fantastic running order with a comprehensive collection of service records dating back to 1979.

The sale of this 912 will include a set of keys, a clear title, toolkit, history of ownership and service records.  This beautifully reconditioned 912 represents the perfect opportunity for any aspiring vintage Porsche owner, do not miss out.

@amissair The clutch and transmission shift nicely. No grinding. No nicks. No odd noises. The clutch takes up where you would expect it to - 3/4 of the way out on clutch pedal travel. I have 35 years with Porsche cars and know what a proper.y shifting 915 should shift like. This example shift quite well.

Could you let us know the clutch and shifter feel? Does the clutch pick up point occur at mid-travel? Shifting is light and direct or notchy? These 912E 915 trannies were beautiful when in good operating condition.

The description states all seals were replaced 12 years ago, during the resto. However, most of the seals holding the headliner are damaged. What happened?

Also, are the bubbles in the paint shown on the cowl due to rust or trapped dirt particles?

Please let me know if there are any photographs you would like added to this auction. This 912E is a well documented and sorted out car. Review the photos - the entire restoration has been documented and a binder awaits the next lucky owner.
