Now up for auction is this 1976 Porsche 912E presented in Midnight Blue Metallic. Reported to have spent its entire life in California up until the seller’s recent purchase in 2020, this 912E has since been relocated to Maryland and treated to well over $10k worth of service including a refresh of the braking system and a full rebuild of the 5-speed manual gearbox. Having also undergone an engine rebuild in 2018 at a cost of over $11k, this well-sorted 912E is now being offered for auction with approximately 195k miles showing on the odometer, accompanied by service records and a clean title.
This 912 is said to have been previously refinished in Midnight Blue Metallic, and the paint is noted to be in good condition with some minor patina. The original color of the car is stamped in the doorjamb as Arrow Blue (305-9-20). Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery. This particular example features a sunroof, U.S. market bumperettes, black exterior trim, and Fuchs-style wheels dressed in fresh all-season tires dated from 2020.
The black interior has been kept in good driver-grade condition. Some imperfections are noted including a crack on the dashboard and a missing headliner on the sunroof panel. The front seats appear to have been reupholstered and an upgraded Kenwood radio has been added along with aftermarket speakers. The windshield wiper motor and washer pump have been newly replaced, and the seller indicates all gauges and accessories to be fully functional.
Only offered for the 1976 model year, the Porsche 912E was debuted with a naturally aspirated 2.0 L flat-four engine with fuel injection. In its stock configuration, the 912E is capable of sending approximately 86 HP to the rear wheels. The original fuel injection system for this example has been replaced in favor of dual Weber carburetors for ease of operation. Records show an engine rebuild at 188k miles in 2018 at a cost of over $11k, and the seller recently commissioned a major engine-out service and mechanical refresh including the following items:
