The Porsche 912E was offered exclusively in the United States for one year only, with less than 2,100 examples produced in total. Factory-specified in Light Yellow, this example has been equipped with a custom-built Raby’s Aircooled Technology 2,563cc flat-four engine paired with a rebuilt 5-speed transaxle. It features upgraded Dual Dellorto carburetors, a Tangerine Racing exhaust, a WEVO shifter, an oil cooler, an Eberspacher gas heater, Elephant Racing suspension components, Bilstein shocks, Turbo tie rods, and several additional modifications. Cosmetic appointments include LED headlights, bullet-style mirrors, a Rennline roof rack, Cork leather upholstery, backdated dash trim, a MOMO steering wheel, RS-style door panels, and much more. This well-sorted 1976 Porsche 912E is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Canada.

This 912E came factory-finished in Light Yellow and was refinished in 2007. The car rides on matte black power-coated 16x6” Maxilite Fuchs-style wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport AS3+ tires with a space-saver spare tire stored in the front trunk. Since the seller’s acquisition in 2019, modifications have included Flat6 LED headlights, Cibie driving lights with black covers, a Rennline roof rack, and removed rocker moldings and covers which will accompany the sale. Other details include black headlight trim rings, bullet-style mirrors, custom badges, and Pegasus and Heuer decals. The factory black badges are also included in the sale. The seller mentions previously repaired chips on the windshield and cracks on the paint inside the decklid and the lower valance. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

Inside, the driver is welcomed by Cork leatherette upholstery contrasted with a black instrumentation surround, lower dashboard, RS-style door panels, and replacement carpets. Modifications include a MOMO three-spoke steering wheel, a WEVO shifter, yellow door pulls, custom luggage belts, and a fire extinguisher. A backdated Rennline basketweave dashboard insert, Rennline dash controls, knobs, floorboards, & pedals, and a Rennline billet HVAC control have been fitted. Additionally, an Eberspacher Airtronics S2 gas heater has been fitted into the smuggler’s box, protected with a Rennline cover.

Power is provided by a 2,563cc Type 4 flat-four that was built by the specialists at Raby’s Aircooled Technology and installed in 2020. Engine upgrades include dual Dellorto carburetors, a 123ignition electronic distributor and ignition module, a PE performance wideband 02 controller, a Revolution Electronics fuel pump controller, and a Setrab oil cooler. A Tangerine Racing exhaust system was also fitted. The rear wheels are driven through a rebuilt Type 923 5-speed manual transmission with replacement synchros fitted as part of the build. A replacement clutch and pressure plate have been installed, and the clutch fork has been re-welded. Additional fitments include Bilstein B8 shocks, Turbo tie rods, a 22mm hollow front torsion bar, and a 28mm rear solid torsion bar along with Elephant Racing de-cambered ball joints, chassis reinforcements, through-body RSR-style sway bars, QuickChange rear spring plates, and bushings.

This sale will include a Canadian registration, a bill of sale, a Secure Odometer disclosure from Oregon, and a digital copy of the Oregon tile from the previous owner.

The seller would like you to know: "Hello, and welcome to the listing for my 1976 Porsche 912E! This car has been one of the crown jewels of my collection, and letting it go is truly bittersweet. Last week, I sold my Beck 550 Spyder, and now, with a bit of reluctance, I'm here to offer up my cherished 912E. Our upcoming move to Portugal makes this sale necessary, though it’s hard to part with such a personal favorite. This car is the result of a dedicated rebuild, merging originality with that unmistakable ‘outlaw’ edge. Powered by a custom Raby-built engine delivering 180 hp, it’s a thrill on the road, effortlessly keeping up with (and sometimes outpacing) the 911s in our driver group. The lighter engine allows for sharper handling, making it an ideal, balanced driver’s car. I've put in extensive work myself to refine this car while keeping its essence intact. Key upgrades and technical work, like the brakes and suspension, were done with the help of a close friend who’s a skilled VW/Porsche restorer. His expertise helped us perfect every detail, ensuring this car is as rewarding to drive as it is to own. If you're a U.S. buyer, note that this car is eligible for simplified importation due to its age (over 25 years). This means it's exempt from EPA and DOT requirements, making the process fairly straightforward with the help of a specialized transport company. Thank you for visiting, and feel free to reach out with any questions! I look forward to connecting with a new owner who’ll enjoy this 912E as much as I have. ADDITIONAL NOTE: The bullet style mirrors were custom designed and machined for the car and are a one-off item, I designed and machined them myself and no others like it exist. They're powered coated to match the wheels."

The induction sound of the dual carbs on a flat 4 brings me back to my VW days. At 2.6L I bet this rips.

@Don Absolutely! The suspension upgrade made a huge difference—it really hugs the road now, but it still feels totally road-friendly and easy to drive.

  • Red550Spyder (seller) 1 monthago

@Andersenrandy - Thanks for the questions! Here are some answers:

Raby engines are built to go the distance if properly maintained. Jake has a teardown writeup of one of his own high-mileage engines that he drove hard, which you can check out here: https://aircooledtechnology.com/high-mileage-teardown/

The NOS (New Old Stock) Dellorto carbs on the car are rare and sought after; these are the ones currently in use. They’re excellent for providing the performance and responsiveness this setup needs.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

  • Don (registered bidder) 1 monthago

I bet this thing handles like a dream. I'm about to do elephant racing suspension on my '77 Outlaw.

  • Andersenrandy (registered bidder) 1 monthago

Does any one have a feel for how long a “Ruby Special” can last if serviced properly? What do NOS Dellorto do? If they are on the car why would you not use them? Sorry for the “new to Porsche stuff” questions. This is a very cool car!

@Roma - Thank you. Brake lines are all steel, the ones you're probably referring to with the red covers are Renn-Lines - Stainless Steel DOT Compliant Brake Lines.

  • Roma (registered bidder) 1 month, 1 weekago

Very nice build for sure. Are the brake lines steel or rubber? I couldn’t tell from the photos. Alberta’s Out-of-Province inspections is brutal and I’m trying to understand what may need to be done if this beauty comes to the Rockies. THX

@Marketwatcher - Haha, good eye! Yep, it was on BaT recently. Figured I’d give it another shot to find the right home. The previous listing has some great comments (including insights from Jake a.k.a. @Flat6_innovations) and some bidding history—happy to answer any other questions too!

    Hmmm - this looks familiar.

  • LKT11 (registered bidder) 1 month, 1 weekago

@Red550Spyder thanks so much ! Love it. Beautiful

  • Red550Spyder (seller) 1 month, 1 weekago

@LKT11 - Thanks! Yes, it’s the “Raby Special” with additional upgrades, including a final displacement of 2563 cc with 102mm cylinders. The build features cryogenically treated parts, detailed blueprinting, precise balancing to .05 oz, a lightened flywheel for quick response, Digital 1/2/3 ignition, and NOS Dellorto carbs (never used). It was also broken in and dyno-tested at Raby’s shop, with the dyno sheet included in the gallery. Let me know if you’d like more details!

  • LKT11 (registered bidder) 1 month, 1 weekago

Is this the “Raby Special” version or one of his other ones? What options etc did he do on this engine ? Beautiful car !

    For U.S. Bidders:

I purchased this Porsche from the U.S. (Oregon) in 2019. Since it was originally a U.S. car and is over 25 years old, it qualifies for simplified ‘reimportation’ back into the U.S., exempting it from EPA and DOT requirements. Here are the key documents I have to assist:

    1. Paperwork for Reimportation: I have the original Bill Of Sale from 2017, a digital copy of the Oregon Title from when I purchased it, and the Secure Odometer Disclosure Statement, also from Oregon. These documents will help facilitate the customs process. For reimporting, you will likely need the U.S. Customs Form 7501 (Entry Summary) and the HS-7 Declaration, confirming its exemption due to age.

    2. Duty-Free Reimport: Based on my understanding, since this car was originally a U.S.-based vehicle, it may qualify for duty-free reimport. I recommend verifying this with Customs to ensure all requirements are met for claiming the exemption.

    3. Using a Vehicle Transport Company: In my experience importing cars into Canada from the U.S., working with a specialized transport service significantly eases the logistics. Many of these companies can assist with import documentation, ensuring a smooth process.

Hello and welcome to the auction for my 1976 Porsche 912E, affectionately named YOLO!

As my wife and I prepare for our upcoming move to Portugal, I find it necessary to let go of this incredibly special car. It’s a bittersweet process—out of the Porsches I've owned and cherished, including my recently sold Beck 550 Spyder and my ’63 356 S90 (which is making the journey with me), this 912E holds a particularly unique place. With its custom Raby-built 2,563cc engine and carefully chosen upgrades, it’s been one of the most rewarding cars to drive, consistently turning heads and effortlessly keeping pace with the vintage 911s in our driving group.

In bringing this 912E to its current form, I focused on enhancing its performance and personality with a 'light Outlaw build' while staying true to its Porsche heritage. From the thrilling acceleration to the balanced handling, every drive has been a joy. And a shout-out to my little co-pilot, ‘Buzzbee’ (the plush bee you may spot in the photos)—he’s my good-luck charm and has been with me for many rides, though he’ll continue his travels with me in the 356.

Thank you for taking a look, and feel free to ask any questions—I’ll be here to help and share more details.
