Now available for auction is this German-market 1977 Porsche 911S Targa finished in the rare factory color of Continental Orange over a Black leatherette interior. Originally built for sale in Germany, this 1977 911 retains its original 2.7 L flat-six paired with a number’s matching 5-speed manual gearbox. Having been enhanced with steel fender flares and a high-quality professional respray in its factory original color, this beautifully presented 911 Targa is now being offered by its seller out of Florida accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
This 911 underwent a professional glass-out respray in its rare and highly desirable factory original color of Continental Orange. All new rubber seals were installed, and a recent inspection found all body panels to be original with the exception of welded steel fender flares in the rear. The paint is said to be in like-new condition and the Targa top is also said to be in great shape with only a few minor imperfections (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery). Noteworthy features on this example include chrome headlight bezels, an optional black Targa bar, European bumperettes, and genuine Fuchs wheels that have been recently dressed in brand new Michelin tires.
Inside, the Black leatherette interior is said to be in excellent condition. An aftermarket steering wheel has been installed along with upgraded speakers and full Black vinyl seats. A 5-digit U.S.-market odometer currently shows just over 61,350 miles and the original Blaupunkt radio remains fully functional along with all other gauges and accessories.
This Targa showcases an original 2.7L fuel-injected flat-six engine that is capable of producing 165 HP and 176 lb.-ft of torque. A desirable 5-speed 915 manual gearbox is factory optioned along with front and rear stabilizer bars. Drivetrain serial numbers are depicted in the photo gallery along with the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. Some modifications include an aftermarket exhaust crossover pipe and catalytic converter bypass. A recent full service was performed to bring the car up to excellent driving standards which included fluid and filter changes, new spark plugs, valve cover gaskets, and a new battery as well as compression and leak-down tests which yielded satisfactory results. Some maintenance invoices are included and this 911 is reported to be in fantastic running order.
This sale will include a set of 2 keys, an original toolkit, some service records, a clean title, and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. For any enthusiast with a passion for air-cooled Targa’s, this number’s matching Continental Orange example is an absolute treasure.

@PMason we recently took this Targa on trade from a local Porsche enthusiast here in Florida toward a 930 Turbo. He originally purchased it about 3 years ago from Victory Motorcars in TX, and from then until now it spent the majority of it's life as a display piece inside his house. Elferspot Magazine featured it in an article back in 2018. When it was pulled out last month it got 4 new Michelins and new fluids, then got an inspection with compression and leak down test at a local Porsche specialty shop called Orbit Racing. Tests and inspection came back good.
We are still trying to locate the paper service records that were with the car when the previous owner acquired it. The official import sticker is still with the car, shown in the photos. A fun fact about that part of the history - the gentleman who imported it was a famous German U-Boat officer named Otto Giese. He has a book published called "Shooting the War", can be found on Amazon.

@9146max To expand on the A/C subject for anyone interested: this Targa did not come with factory A/C, however it did have the standard "dealer installed" A/C kit added. At some point the compressor and lines were removed from the kit for power and weight saving (parts not with the car), so currently no A/C but f the next owner prefers to have it, it's only a matter of adding those parts back to the car and not a full on conversion.
@BigWheels Yes, and this one actually already has the Carrera hydraulic tensioner upgrade done.
Do these require the upgraded hydraulic chain tensioners? Installed. thanks
Hey guys, Seller checking in a couple days late. Thank you for the bids placed already and thank you @DriverM for answering the flare question! That is exactly right, 911SC flares have been welded on and quality looks like factory. Thank you for chiming in as well @witz, I appreciate the feedback from your ownership and the 911S answer. The guys at the Porsche shop who inspected this one also mentioned the 5 blade fan and it's a pretty rare Euro thing.
@9146max - we don't have the A/C parts, they were removed further back than our history of ownership goes. For those who aren't familiar with why they were removed- it was popular with the Euro cars (or any cooler climate) in order to save power, save weight and also make it more aesthetically pleasing.

I have a Euro 77' 911S , it's a great car. I changed out the 5 blade fan for a 21. and oil cooler. My car came from Vermont , California needs more cooling. Love the orange!!

@Another911 A 1977 Porsche was normally a narrow body car unless it was a Carrera or Turbo Carrera. The flared rear wheel wells did not start on 911's until 1978 with the introduction of the 911SC. So.......This car has added SC flares.
