Up for auction is a 1977 911 S Targa finished in Guards Red.  Showing a history of three owners, this Targa is said to have been diligently maintained and garage kept by its current owner for the past twenty-six years.  With matching numbers and a brilliant overall finish, this 911 S is an air-cooled enthusiast’s dream.  This high-level driver-grade Targa is now being offered for auction with approximately 48k miles displayed on the odometer by its seller in Michigan.

As indicated by the seller, this Targa shows incredibly well considering its age and mileage.  Approximately 20 years ago the car was refinished in its original color of Guards Red that still shows well today.  This 911 rides on factory forged alloy wheels which come mounted with new Dunlop Sport 5000 tires.  The seller states that the Targa top was recently refurbished, and the seal was replaced around 700 miles ago.  With an impeccably clean appearance and iconic Targa styling, this 911 is a true head-turner.

Inside, this Targa retains a period correct black interior with genuine leather seats, automatic speed control and air conditioning.  This interior is said to remain in great shape.  The air compressor has been recently replaced and the A/C system has been updated to use R134A, meaning summertime driving will be cool and comfortable for some time to come.  Complete with fully functional gauges, accessories and electrical components, this Targa is ready to be enjoyed by its next owner.

Powered by a numbers-matching 2.7L flat-six engine, this 911 S puts out about 160HP to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission.  The ride is nimble and responsive thanks to factory equipped Koni shock absorbers and fresh tires.  This 911 S currently stands in excellent, ready-to-drive condition with a clean bill of health and no outstanding issues, as per the seller.  A major service was performed about 700 miles ago by Automotive Techniques in Novi, MI. that included the following maintenance items.

  • New Brake Lines
  • Brake Fluid Flush
  • Transmission Flush
  • New Transmission Gasket
  • New Heater Boxes
  • Replaced Engine Sound Proofing
  • Valve Adjustment
  • New Spark Plugs
  • Replaced Valve Cover Gasket
  • Oil Change
  • New Oil/Fuel/Air Filters

The sale of this well-sorted 911 S will include original books and documentation, a toolkit, two sets of keys and comprehensive service records.  This vehicle is accompanied by a clear title and stands ready for immediate delivery.

@smsarchitects Approximately 700 miles ago the car was brought in to Automotive Techniques, Novi, MI with the instructions to fix whatever it needs to make it perfect. Approximately $10,000 was spent, including re-doing the air conditioning. At that time it was noted that there was a leak (sweating) at the transmission case seams. Repair shop said it did not need to be repaired and "you could drive cross country without a problem".

there appears to be some typical seepage below the motor/gearbox. do we know where that is coming from and how prevalent it is?
