This 1977 Porsche 911S Targa is finished in Wine Red Metallic over a Black leatherette interior and was recently fitted with an upgraded 3.2-liter Carrera engine. This lifelong West Coast car is said to have been acquired by its seller out of Utah and was previously owned in Southern California from 1977 until 2005. Supported by a recent service and cylinder leak-down test, this 3.2-powered 911S is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Arizona while showing approximately 146k miles on the odometer.

This 911S was refinished in the classic Porsche color of Wine Red Metallic (895) under prior ownership. It features polished trim around the windshield, a fender-mounted antenna, a Turbo-style front chin spoiler, rectangular front fog lights, body-color headlight rings, an aftermarket muffler, a raised third brake light, a removable black roof panel, and a black Targa bar with a tinted glass dome rear window. The car rides on 16” Fuchs wheels measuring 7” wide in the front and 8” wide in the rear, dressed in Bridgestone performance tires. The seller notes the exterior was recently polished and hand-waxed, and remnants of the original Guards Red finish are present in the engine bay and luggage compartment. The seller adds that the car was always garage-kept and there are no signs of rust or accident history. Two small paint bubbles are noted on the driver’s rear quarter panel.

The black leatherette interior is said to have been previously redone and includes reupholstered seats, stainless-steel gauge bezels, and a three-spoke MOMO steering wheel. The sound system has also been modified with a Pioneer head unit and aftermarket speakers. The seller notes all lights, gauges, and accessories remain fully functional including the air conditioning, power windows, and door locks.

An upgraded 3.2-liter flat-six engine was sourced from a later model Carrera and is said to have been recently mated to the car’s original 5-speed 915 manual transaxle. A full service was reportedly carried out in preparation for sale by a Porsche master mechanic including new fluids and a cylinder leak-down test showing under 5% for all cylinders.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Canyon State Classics brings to market a 1977 Porsche 911 Targa in Wine Red Metallic over Black leatherette. This was always a Southern California rust-free car and shows CA ownership from 1977 until at least 2005. Notable features on this Targa include a g-body era 3.2l engine upgrade with retention of correct auxiliary system functions and wiring. This is a very tidy engine conversion that increases power over the original configuration while also adding reliability. This car comes to us from UT after a long time of PCA member ownership and has been treated to a full repaint in the form of a color change as well as replacement interior upholstery. Don't miss out on your chance to own a great driver-oriented car that has all the great components of the more expensive examples. Mechanically, this Porsche is in great condition and runs and drives great. It is very healthy and very quick. This car boasts 217bhp and flies from 0-60 in 6.3 sec with a top speed of 160mph! The car has a very strong 5-speed 915 transmission that shifts well and has had a clutch job in the past. The car has just been serviced by our Porsche factory master tech with Castrol and was given a clean bill of health and all cylinder leak down was under 5%. This car is very clean under the hood and really shows how its previous owner took excellent care of it. The A/C blows ice cold and the heat works as it should. This car is as tight as a drum with no current oil leaks to speak of. It's ready for the road!”

@Kbewick I haven't pushed the car too hard on marketing in California because I just don't know. I'm going to smog it here in AZ just so I can get the readings and then will have a better idea. Not sure if they would catch the later model engine in the car and how that would change anything

  • Kbewick 7 months, 4 weeksago

Any idea if it will pass smog in California?

@tdskip thank you for stating the obvious. Maybe someone will take a look at the market and see what anything 3.2L powered is selling for and make a realistic offer. If not it's back on my site and back for general purchase and sale. Thanks for trying those who bid.

Can you post a picture of the engine type and serial number stamping? If you're not able to get a usable pic, just post the numbers.

  • canyonclassics (seller) 8 monthsago

@Alabamatoy it at one time had an aftermarket Clifford alarm. All of the equipment was professional removed. No alarm in the car currently.

  • alabamatoy 8 monthsago

what is the "CLIFFORD" button or light above right of the tach? Is this an aftermarket alarm system?

Welcome everyone to the auction for this beautiful and well done 911S. I have thoroughly enjoyed having this one in the stable for a few months and I know it's going to bring its next owner miles of smiles and help them meet all of the best people! I will be uploading some underside pics as well as a startup video here later today. Feel free to ask questions but I feel we have given just about all the info I know about the car in the listing. I will try to get the engine number off the block and identify what year the engine is. Other than that pictures speak for themselves. Good luck to all interested. Let's enjoy the ride!!
