A custom backdate restoration commenced in 2019 by Matt Mariani of The R Institute, the “Turbo S/T Bandit” began life as a 1977 Porsche 911S Coupe and showcases hand-formed steel bodywork along with a modified 930 Turbo engine rated at 400 HP. It also features unique aerodynamic improvements, red leather GTS Classics bucket seats, a MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, Bilstein RSR coilovers, upgraded brakes, custom wheels, Lexan windows, and a custom close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission with a limited-slip differential. Completed in 2023 and with under 3k miles driven since, this uncompromising air-cooled hot rod is now being offered for auction by its creator out of Southern California.
The 911S Coupe features a backdated, reinforced, and stitch-welded bodyshell including hand-formed S/T-inspired steel fender flares built to RSR width. Other custom-made items include the one-off steel ducktail spoiler, front chin spoiler, inner fender liners, stone guards, R Institute canards, and aluminum Martini spoilers. The sunroof was eliminated, and lightweight Lexan windows are used all around apart from the original Sekurit tinted glass windscreen. The car also features a unique Carrera oil cooler scoop, a hood-mounted fuel filler, 911R-style door handles and taillights, Cibie hood lights, lightened rear bumper overriders, and 930 rear fog lights. The car was stripped to bare metal and painted in Nardo Grey. It rides on custom 9” and 11” wide 15” wheels in a 909 BergSpyder-style finish with Michelin TB15 tires. The seller adds that the original locking trigger-style door handles are included in the sale.
The cabin has been lined with factory-spec black silverknit carpeting and features a body-colored roll bar, contrasting red headliner, custom-fabricated aluminum trim pieces, and new GTS Classics S/T bucket seats in dark red leather with Repa safety belts. Other details include lightweight door panels with window straps and cloth pull handles, a three-spoke MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, a 10k-RPM tachometer, a custom aluminum switch panel, a fire extinguisher, a stopwatch, and a turbocharger boost gauge mounted in place of the dashboard clock.
Power comes from a rebuilt and modified 3.3-liter 930 Turbo motor with the following specifications provided by the seller:
The rear wheels are driven through a 1979 930-sourced 4-speed manual transaxle and a factory limited-slip differential. The transmission has been rebuilt with a close-ratio gear set and includes a custom carrier, custom bronze shift linkage bushings, a custom hybrid 915/930 shifter, a Sachs Racing pressure plate, and 964/993 half-axles. The chassis includes high-spindle Bilstein RSR coilover ball-socket suspension and upgraded components from Elephant Racing and Tarret Engineering. The brakes also feature reconditioned 906 (S) front calipers with new Duroano lightweight billet pistons and large custom-fit Brembo rear calipers. The seller adds that the car produces the same torque as a 993 Turbo S while weighing over 1,000 lbs. less.
This sale will include extensive build documentation and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: "It's really exciting to drive."

New Instagram account for additional information on the turbo S/T "Bandit"

Bandit lives in SoCal now and as always I'll work with the new owner on the BOS to help. It's a terrific and exciting 911.
Paul at Second Street Speed in Perkasie Pa does a lot of Porsche wheel and engine dyno tuning. He doesn't cheat. He detected no knocking during our brief visit. Best gear ratio to get accurate power numbers is 1:1 we did it in 3rd which is .89:1, had we done it in 2nd gear (1.2:2) that wheel horsepower/tq would have been higher. Custom shortened 930 4 speed has custom oem gearing and factory LSD. Same R&P as a 917.
It's first dyno pull in 3rd gear with way too retarded ignition, Bandit made the EXACT torque figure EXCELLENCE MAGAZINE has listed, that the '95-'98 993 Turbo S makes. Bandit weighs over 1000 pounds less however at 2300 pounds with fuel. Bandit is also all steel. I purposely wanted some weight.

Our account with hundreds of build process photos and video was hacked weeks ago and is now completely gone.
Bandit made 412 horsepower and 430 foot-pounds @4300 rpm doing 3rd gear pulls from 2000 rpm on a very accurate DynoJet on pump gas.
The first pull net 365 HP/423 FT-LBs as I had ignition timing way to retarded.
Adding a few degrees advance starting at 4800 rpm corrected this. Unfortunately that video is gone with the account but I did find the print of the original session used to make ignition timing adjustments on the Classic Retrofit CDI+. Bandit really rips, no video can do it justice, it passes V8 M3s like they're a Prius. Happy bidding!
