Vehicle Details

  • Year: 1977
  • Make: Porsche
  • Model: 911S
  • VIN: 9117202507
  • Mileage: 118,244
  • Transmission: Manual
  • Title Status: Clean
  • Color: Coppa Florio Blue
  • Seller Type: Private Party
  • Location: Miami, FL 33157
  • Lot #: V-0040421

Factory-finished in the extremely rare color of Coppa Florio Blue, this 1977 Porsche 911S Coupe was sold new in California featuring optional Fuchs forged alloy wheels, Koni shock absorbers, a front oil cooler, an electric sunroof, a leather steering wheel, fog lights, and power windows. The car was later imported to Ireland where it was reportedly owned by a World Championship rally driver. Over the past several years, this 911S underwent extensive servicing including engine and transmission refurbishments, overhauled brakes and suspension, new SSI heat exchangers, and a Dansk muffler. The car was eventually imported to Canada in 2021 before being acquired by the seller in 2022. Accompanied by a Porsche Letter of Origin confirming a numbers-matching engine and transmission, this 911S is now being offered for auction out of Florida.

This 911S came factory-finished in Coppa Florio Blue (T2), an exceedingly rare color named for an early 20th-century Italian road race. Equipment includes optional 15” Fuchs forged alloy wheels, rectangular front fog lights, an electric sunroof, an electric antenna, a driver's side mirror, bright aluminum window moldings, and chrome headlamps bezels. The wheels were refinished and dressed in new Pirelli P6000 tires in 2021 within the last 4,000 miles. All exterior lights are said to have been refurbished and fitted with upgraded LED and HID bulbs. The seller states that there are limited imperfections, most of the paint is original, and all factory original parts are still in place on the body. Some imperfections can be seen in photos including one small ding on the driver’s door, thin paint on the driver's side mirror, and some paint missing on the trailing edge of the roof.

The cabin is appointed with black leatherette upholstery and a matching three-spoke leather steering wheel. Equipment includes power windows, analog VDO instrument dials, folding rear seatbacks, a heater, and a vintage Blaupunkt radio. The seller notes that some wear is present on the driver’s seat and the leather strap securing the rear driver’s side seatback recently broke. The sun visors were recently replaced, and a set of coco floor mats have been added to the footwells. The air conditioning components were removed under prior ownership, although all other accessories are said to be fully functional.

This 911S is equipped with an air-cooled 2.7-liter flat-six engine featuring Bosch fuel injection. Up to 165 HP is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed 915 manual transaxle. The seller states that the engine and transmission were reportedly rebuilt within the last four years along with an overhaul of the brakes and suspension with new OEM parts. New oil lines have been installed and the engine is equipped with upgraded SSI heat exchangers and a Dansk muffler. The seller adds that the engine was recently serviced and tuned including the installation of new spark plugs.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, an assortment of spare parts, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “This is a very, very rare color.  One of the few ‘5 paint can’ colors on Rennbow.  Believed (but not confirmed) to be 1 of 10 cars from this period in this factory original color. It was a car that I did not think I would ever sell.  An amazing opportunity for a special build has come up, and you can only drive so many cars!  The car needs nothing at this time.  In my ownership, it has done ~1500 miles in the Cascade mountains, upon import, a recent 1500-mile rally down from Oregon to Rennsport Reunion 7, and many other special trips with my son.”

Late to the party but I have a '76 Targa in its original Coppa Florio and pictures never do the color justice. It can appear anything from white to powder blue depending on the lighting. It is the Moonstone of blues (or maybe Moonstone is the Coppa Florio of purples) but regardless it is a striking color that always stirs conversation. I have not seen this car in person but have a mutual friend with seller that has told me about it several times, and it is always great to see another Coppa Florio trade hands in the wild. Good luck to the bidders.

I know the seller personally and he's a stand up guy. A true enthusiast and what you see is what you get with him. He also only buys blue Porsches and has quite an eye for picking the good ones. Whoever is lucky enough to score this will thoroughly enjoy it. Good luck with the sale!

    Beautiful color.

@redgard I appreciate the kind words. I have a local friend with a 992 GT3 Touring in Meissen (also a 4RS, 3RS and S/T all in Meissen) and I can tell you they are stunning! That said, I am not really into buying new cars anymore - as I appreciate the emotion that the older ones give you and then reward you for doing your part.

  • VDBGT3 (seller) 1 month, 4 weeksago

@salehakc313 just went and started it to confirm ~800 rpms

  • redgard (registered bidder) 1 month, 4 weeksago

I hope you get every penny this beautiful car is worth! As a interesting side note there is a blue Porsche listed on BaT right now that has a very similar paint to sample color called Meissen Blue.

  • VDBGT3 (seller) 1 month, 4 weeksago

Update – did the best I could do for a driving video on short notice. I should have closed the rear window wings, because there is some wind noise. You will hear some Peacocks going wild in the middle of the video! The car starts right up, shifts silky smooth and runs amazing. Bid with confidence that you could jump in and drive it home to Maine or California, and anywhere in between.

At the request of a couple of folks, I was finally able to get a pic with the battery removed. Looks very good for this year/age/miles - in my opinion. I had not previously pulled it myself! I will leave the battery tender connection on the battery for the new owner. Thank you all for looking - someone is wining this today!

@scarpelli916 - while I would love to be a mechanical whiz with these cars (or at least have time to wrench on them) I am not an expert. I cannot tell looking at the engine exactly what has/has not been done. The best answer that I can proffer is the one previously posted, as it was explained to me by my primary mechanic...

It was a general fix of most of the cooling issues that plague mid-year engines. (due to smog issues)
It appears that the studs were changed and currently has 930 heads (a top end service may be reasonably assumed)
I am told the fan is improved and that the alternator was possibly changed at that time.
Again, there is no documentation on this. I am relaying what I have been told by individuals who know more than myself.

@cc350 - I asked this of the videographer when they took the initial media. I was told it was not necessary. I have reached out to PCM this AM to see what we can do this close to auction close. Will do the best we can... The car drives amazing - new owner will not be disappointed!

    Appreciate the bids - @nobrakes and @cadejo

  • CC350 (registered bidder) 1 month, 4 weeksago

All major receipts that are notable are in the picture gallery. There are at least 30+ more that are $0-~$200, but the major ones are shown. I was not able to get the name of the shop that rebuilt the transmission with new parts. @johno12345 there are no carfax reports available for cars of this period. If you put the VIN in their website, you will see this issue. The original service book with dealer stamps is not with the car. My understanding of the bidder rules here on the site, is that it must be paid right away and picked up within 7 days. That said, I can work with any buyer to some degree, but I will not store it a couple of extra weeks.

I have posted the photos and invoice from the Meticulous Detail that was done on the car. You will see the level of detail. Paste wax was chosen (shown on invoice) as the top coat, as Ceramic coatings are a controversial product for older cars/paint.

  • Johno12345 2 monthsago

Hi, a couple of other quick questions. Does it have a carfax report? I am in Great Britain. Are you happy for bids from overseas and would you allow a couple of weeks for transport to be arranged if all monies were paid. Thanks for your time. Car looks fab and I love the photos from your trips. Best John

  • Johno12345 2 monthsago

Hi, is there a service book with any stamps in? Thanks John

Some additional pictures of the car’s adventures have been posted to the gallery. These highlight how amazing this color looks in any situation/setting and with nearly any lighting conditions! The Cascades Mountains, Werks Reunion Amelia Island, Porsche Classics event (main car) Rennsport Reunion 7 (including the PCH & Redwood forest), and finally the main art gallery car at DRT 2024. I would not hesitate to get in the car and drive it across country. It needs nothing but a winning bid to make that happen!

Quick update - Windshield cannot be replaced today. All (3) windshields at the warehouse were scratched. Additional new windshields are arriving tomorrow at some point and it is tentatively scheduled to be installed Wednesday morning. It will be done before the car goes to its new owner - at MY EXPENSE. Thx for your patience as we work through this. I want it to be right!

  • VDBGT3 (seller) 2 monthsago

Thank you - as a curator of only special blue Porsches, they are all very important to me. I believed that both leak down and compression were a part of the PPI, but looking at the report, none are referenced. I will reach out and see if they were done. Given the auction ends in (2) days, it may be unlikely that I get them, in time, if they were not performed. I will do my level best to get that info. From my experience and that of the (2) individuals that have come to see the car in person, we are in agreement that it runs very well.

  • Pruismann (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

@ VDBGT3 what a beautiful car. Your passion comes through in the comments. Wondering you might have the ability to provide the leak down or compression numbers referenced in the previous comments? Thank you.

  • VDBGT3 (seller) 2 monthsago

I have a lot of “small spares” shown in the photo added. Notably, a period correct 1977 license plate for shows, along with a Porsche Santa Monica plate frame - the dealership it was delivered to. Also, a front plate bracket - if required in your state. Spare fuses, relays, nuts, bolts, clips and an entire LED bulb kit for the dash, that I never managed to install. Also, a spare fog glass lens - they take a hit once in a while. Finally, I have a Classic Retrofit CDI box that the winner may buy for $1000 - retail is $1400. If winner does not want it, it will be sold on the Pelican forums. I have also added an underside photo.

Having spent some time in my 84 outlaw down the California coast to Rennsport with this amazing car in my group I had to come here and say it’s everything this listing says it is. Every morning it started without a hitch and never gave us any issues. It was a joy to see this car stretch its legs down the PCH. The owner is a true enthusiast- passionate about all of the vehicles in his care and meticulous in every way. He said multiple times “this one is never leaving.” Surprised to see it on the market and sad to see it go. But life goes on and the new owner will absolutely love this vehicle.

Thx to you all for the continued positive compliments. I truly love this color and am going to miss it horribly.

On the trim - you are 100% accurate. Delivered new, it was black. Everyone has different taste. I would say that I believe the fading is the best thing that could have happened. The brushed aluminum look is perfect for me. I know others at shows have commented they would want to see it restored - easy project for the next owner - to their taste!

    Other updates:
*I couldn’t deliver the car with a cracked windshield. It’s on the passenger side and not huge, but I am having it replaced tomorrow AM. Will post pics and receipt once done! (Don’t know if anyone even noticed, but it mattered to me)
*I will be posting pics from the Meticulous Detail that was done. It has only been driven back and forth to DRT 2024 where it was the centerpiece in the art gallery, adjacent to one of the top Porsche artists.
*Will find some other pics of its adventures during its time under my care.

Finally, thank you all for the continued interest. Every bid counts - with No Reserve, the market will set the price!

  • redgard (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

please don’t take these as criticisms. But per the COA this car came with black trim and as is often the case the anodizing has faded to silver which is very very common .. It’s very clear when you open the door in the video.
I think this car would look even more amazing if the door and windows frames were restored to their original shade of Black.

Also the recent inspection report doesn’t list a Leak down or Compression numbers.. Since ‘77 was one of the years 911’s had head stud issues it would be very helpful if those were included!

Trying to arrange finances so I can bid on this beauty!

Love this thing. Any confirmation it came from Vasek? When I was a kid my mom used to take me by Vasek all the time to look at the race cars on display and cruise the showroom. I may very well have sat in your car 47 years ago! Gorgeous.

  • VDBGT3 (seller) 2 monthsago

@Speedj1 thank you for your interest. In photo 69, it was there when I bought the car. I think it is a makeshift foothold/plate. I will try to pull the coco mats this weekend and take some photos. All of the floor carpets are in very good shape. I had them all deep deep cleaned a short while ago.

Rust - not much. for whatever reason, the rear backrest supports have a decent amount on them. They could be removed and refinished very easily - just never made it to the top of my list. There is a little bit in the battery area - I am pretty certain he took a photo that shows it - not much at all.

Also, any rust on the car? Some images look as though there are spots, but hard to tell. If so please indicate where. Images of floor boards with carpet pulled back and a driving video going through gears would be very helpful to bidders. Thank you.

@area901 on the gear box, it was done by a Porsche specialist in Vancouver that came out of retirement to build it with all new parts. I am travelling for work right now, but will dig back through the receipts once home to try to find the name of the shop/individual. On the rebuild, there is no formal documentation. It was completed during its ownership in Ireland. A local friend and mechanic explained his observations as follows... (I am no mechanical savant)
It was a general fix of most of the cooling issues that plague mid-year engines.
It appears that the studs were changed and currently has 930 heads (a top end service may be reasonably assumed)
I am told the fan is improved and that the alternator was possibly changed at that time.
Again, there is no documentation on this. I am relaying what I have been told by individuals who know more than myself.
    Appreciate your interest!

Could you expand on the engine and gearbox rebuild as far as the shop that did the work and the breakdown and what was actually done? I see an invoice for $9,000 plus but no details...

    - best of luck and it is a great color and it's a 2.7 mid-year...my favorite.
