Now available for auction is this 1977 Porsche 911S finished in Mexico Blue over a custom black interior.  Beginning with a standard 1977 Coupe, this 911S was reportedly brought to Patrick Motorsports in 2004 to undergo a custom RSR-style transformation.  After the current owner’s acquisition in 2012, a 3.6L Varioram Porsche 993 engine was installed and paired with a re-geared G50 5-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential.  Other upgrades include Brembo “Big Red” brakes, Bilstein shocks, B&B exhaust, an additional oil cooler, and Recaro bucket seats with houndstooth upholstered centers.  With over $75k invested since the initial build at Patrick Motorsports, this nicely executed 3.6L custom is being offered for auction by its owner out of Massachusetts.

In 2004, the car was refinished in the current shade of Mexico Blue and fitted with steel fender flares, RSR-style bumpers, and a fiberglass rear spoiler.  Porsche 993-style aero mirrors were also added along with H4 headlights and 17” Lindsey Racing RSR-style wheels. A professional paint correction was carried out in June of 2021. The wheels are currently mounted with Nitto NT555 tires dated from 2014. Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery.

Inside, the cabin has been outfitted with a lightweight RS carpet set, RS-style door panels, and reproduction Recaro sports seats upholstered in black vinyl with houndstooth cloth inserts and matching rear seats.  Other details include aluminum Rennline pedals and track mats, a MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, a leather MOMO shift knob, a 10k-RPM tachometer, and a Retrosound Bluetooth stereo with Sony speakers.

This 911S features a 993-derived 3.6L flat-six Varioram engine which was refreshed and installed by Eurotech Advanced Automotive of Massachusetts in 2014.  The engine has been upgraded with a B&B exhaust system and an additional fender-mounted oil cooler.  The rear wheels are driven by way of a 5-speed G50 manual gearbox which was also rebuilt in 2014 with new synchros, an aluminum pressure plate, and re-geared second-fifth ratios.  The clutch and flywheel were replaced during this time and the gearbox was paired with a 50/80 limited-slip differential featuring a billet side cover.  Approximately 11K miles were added since the time of the rebuild. Porsche 993-spec Brembo “Big Red” brakes are also equipped as well as upgraded Bilstein shocks.  Corresponding invoices are provided for reference in the photo gallery along with photos from the engine/gearbox build.

This sale will include two sets of keys, build records, and a clean title. With its eye-catching appearance and upgraded performance, this no-expense-spared 911S custom is not to be overlooked.

Wow ! So many different thoughts about this very cool Porsche ...
Obviously well built, clean, great pics as well.
The Mexico Blue is not my cup of tea... and the exhaust / engine sounds in the driving
videos is a little weird, not sure what I am hearing ...
Regardless, a really cool build and most likely a blast to drive.
    Already closing in on $ 100 K !

@absconds No, the car has been consigned to be on the platform with the intent to sell. Please place a bid. Thank you.

I can appreciate the work and investment made by the previous owners to create their vision. It is a lovely car. That said, and I can only speak for myself, there's only so much appetite one has for paying north of 100K for someone else's vision...created 17 years ago. Still, this car speaks to me, warts and all. Naturally you have an expectation on price, does Pcar have a mechanism in place allowing us to attempt to come to terms should the reserve not be met? I apologize if this is already stipulated someplace, I'm clearly a neophyte with these auction sites.

Hello and thanks for your interest in my custom 911. The original conversion was completed at Patrick Motorsports in Phoenix. Their project gallery will give an indication on the quality and scope of their work. Since the build of this particular car took place in 2004, the photo gallery for it is no longer up on their site but it was a complete rotisserie restoration and build.

@WReiter thanks for the comments! Flywheel is lightweight but steel and is comparable to euro RS style. It’s made to adapt G50 to the 993 engine. Hope this helps.

@BarryLe I'm around all day tomorrow.

  • BarryLe (registered bidder) 2 years, 7 monthsago

Max: Subject to your availability, I was going to drive up tomorrow to see it. However, I think wltoyboy is going to be very tough to contend with in this auction.

  • max298RSR (seller) 2 years, 7 monthsago

@BarryLe A 2017 manual shift GT3 is an awesome track car! I have (in addition to this and the Cayman S), a 2016 GT3 RS. Unfortunately it's not available as a manual shift. I've done a few laps on the track and cannot believe the difference between the GT's and merely mortal cars. The 911 would be a great car for the cape and Osterville is a beautiful town. Unlike your situation, I'm out of garage space which is the main reason for selling . I'm around until the end of the auction if you want to see it in person.

  • BarryLe (registered bidder) 2 years, 7 monthsago

Max: I have a manual transmission 2017 GT3 which is my track car. I am building on some extra garages at my summer house in Osterville. I am looking for a few toys to live in those garage spaces and be just summer driven.

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 2 years, 7 monthsago

@max298RSR I’m done with tracking, I just like to bust the tower and go supersonic like maverick. My fast and furious built 2004 vw r32 HPA twin turbo 695 hp at the wheels with 104 race fuel on the tank was sold in 2013. Yes it was street driven do to various tunes that could be switched on the fly. I had almost 40,000 miles of fun in that car, trouble free. But that car
At super high speed was like a brick in front of the wind. I’m almost thinking about saying screw it and put a 4.0 in my cable throttle 996. Since the car has some kind of tune I already ran 104 on it and yessss it makes a difference.

  • max298RSR (seller) 2 years, 7 monthsago

@luis.seneriz This car would be pretty sick with a 4.0 Gunter works style engine. It's definitely not over the top since it was set up for spirited street performance. The synchro's were re-geared so top speed is now 140 vs 160 for stock.

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 2 years, 7 monthsago

I think weltoboy wants this one. I’m not getting on your way sir.

  • max298RSR (seller) 2 years, 7 monthsago

@BarryLe Regarding the A/C, I believe the cool air is routed to the existing cool air ducts which are functional. Assuming the AC unit requires ventilation, the air duct on the drivers side front bumper (round porthole) is blank. The hose is there to match the functioning passenger side duct work which provides cool air to the oil cooler mounted under the front passenger side fender. I'm strictly a "fake" racer- DE events with various PCA regions. Just curious would this be a track car for you?

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 2 years, 7 monthsago

@max298RSR the car looks awesome and it’s not over the top, would love to put a 4.0 air cool Gunter werks type in it. Seems by what you are telling me about hp this car may be similar in performance to mine other than I have been at 160 on mine and it glides thru the wind .30 drag coefficient.

Max: In fact, I could break a minute with that new engine. At one time, I had the track record at Lime Rock in three different classes of cars. I am aware of those electric A/C units. I was concerned that there might not be enough room in the build to run the required piping and ducts. I have a bunch of cars with A/C as well but I like my windows rolled up when I drive.

  • max298RSR (seller) 2 years, 7 monthsago

@barryle I do not think adding A/C would change the essence of the build. If the car does not sell at auction the plan is to keep the car and add A/C. There is a company in the UK which makes electric units which fit in the smugglers box. I think they run about $2500 plus installation. One of the nice things about these Porsche recreations is that it's completely custom so making modification is purely a preference which would have no effect on the "originality" of the car. I agree with you that AC would be a big plus. Fortunately I have other go to cars when the weather is not ideal for driving this one. BTW if you raced professionally I am sure you could break 1 minute on LRP.

  • BarryLe (registered bidder) 2 years, 7 monthsago

Max: Lack of A/C would likely be a deal breaker for me. Do you think I would ruin the essence of the build if I tried to retrofit A/C in your car? I have thousands of miles on track at Lime Rock, both in PCA events and also as a professional in the 80’s when I raced a 944 Turbo in IMSA’s Showroom Stock Series.

  • max298RSR (seller) 2 years, 7 monthsago

@luis.seneriz HP is 262 at the wheels, so if done at the crank it would be 10-15% higher or 288--301 hp. The donor engine is from a '96 Carrera which I believe had 288 hp. The car weighs 2700 lbs. "wet" with all fluids and a full tank of gas. It's quick!

Any idea on horsepower and weight? I have a 3/98 996, 2800 lbs and about
320 hp. Love the blue, my favorite color I’m bidding on this one.

  • max298RSR (seller) 2 years, 7 monthsago

    @barryle. Correct- no AC.

  • max298RSR (seller) 2 years, 7 monthsago

@barryle Thanks for your comment. The car was originally built for Concours events. I am the third owner so I did not commission the original build. The guy who commissioned this from Patrick Motorsports used it for shows only and apparently won a few trophy's in PCA region 8 events. The second owner was a guy in Ohio named Ron Thomas who owns a Porsche parts business (AASE Sales). He kept the car in his Porsche museum (you can see it online) and rarely drove it. I asked him if he tracked it and the answer was no. I bought the car from him in 2012 with 3800 miles and have never tracked it. When I changed out the motor in 2014 I had the bushings and suspension modified to make it more "street friendly". I agree it could easily do 1:02 at LRP on street tires. I have a lot of track time there on a mildly modified '08 Cayman S. The 911 is as quick or quicker (on the street).

Max: I am assuming no real air conditioning as well.

Max: Great build and I have interest. I am at my summer home on Cape Cod so I may want to drive up to see the car. I am curious to know if you built this car for the track. Do you have any track time on this 911? It should do 1:02 at Lime Rock on street tires,
